Birdemic: Shock and Terror (2010)
Birds start a massive attack that kills many people
If you like Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds", you must see James Nguyen's "Birdemic". It is a true horror-movie classic.
At the beginning of this film, Rod, who is a highly successfully computer-software salesman meets Natalie, an equally successfully fashion model. They start dating and soon, their friendship evolves into a passionate romance. Rod and Natalie along with their friends and family seem to be living an absolutely perfect life where nothing could possibly go wrong.
However, a news report about a flock of seagulls causing a major traffic accident makes it abundantly clear that they and so many others will soon be suffering unspeakable hardships.
The suspense builds as Rod, Natalie and their friends go about their lives totally oblivious to the extreme danger they will soon face.
Then the birds attack and kill large numbers of people! It becomes a grim struggle for survival as Rod, Natalie and their friends try to defend themselves from the attacking birds while rescuing people they meet along the way. Just when it appears that their situation couldn't get any more desperate, they become stranded in a forest just as a raging forest fire breaks out! They must escape from the rapidly spreading flames while at the same time defend themselves from large flocks of attacking birds. Will they be able to survive such unimaginable disasters? Watch this film and find out!
The great thing about this film is that it starts off slow with steadily building suspense followed by sheer terror! James Nguyen will definitely be remembered as the Alfred Hitchcock of the 21st Century! Be sure to see this film if you get a chance. It is truly amazing!
Santa Claus and His Helpers (1964)
Santa Claus must go to Earth to encourage elves to work
I have seen this movie at least 20 times and it is truly an epic masterpiece. It's the ultimate Christmas fantasy-adventure. Truly astonishing! This film opens with a scene inside of Santa's space station which orbits the Earth. First, Santa checks on all of the boys and girls to see who has been naughty and who has been nice with the help of his behavior computer. Next, Santa checks on his elves to make sure they are making the Christmas presents that he will be delivering to the children. He is dismayed to find that his elves are not making the presents but are instead fighting among themselves. It is a race against time as Santa travels to Earth and then tries to persuade the elves to make the presents which must be finished before Christmas which is only days away! Will Santa succeed in persuading the elves to make the presents on time? There is only one way to find out. Watch this film! This film does an excellent job of illustrating the fact that working together is better than fighting. I like the way the tension builds as Santa tries to resolve the conflict among his elves and to bring out the best in them.
Santa's Magic Kingdom (1966)
The Ogre attacks Santa's Magic Kingdom
I have seen this film many times and it never ceases to amaze me. It is an epic fantasy-adventure that is truly unforgettable! This film opens with scenes from various parts of Santa's Magic Kingdome where we are introduced to Santa's Elves, the Easter Bunny and other citizens of the Kingdom. We learn about what they do, how they live and what part of the Kingdom they live in.
Unfortunately, the Kingdom is about to be attacked by an Ogre who has almost unlimited power. It is up to Santa Claus and the citizens of Santa's Magic Kingdom to defeat the Ogre. Can they do it? Watch and see! I like the way this movie keeps you in suspense until the very end as Santa and the citizen's of his Kingdom attempt the seemingly impossible task of fighting the Ogre. It is truly a classic David-and-Goliath type of story.
Robot Monster (1953)
Terrifying alien kills most people on Earth!
I have seen Robot Monster at least 10 times and I would have to say it is the greatest science fiction thriller of all time! This amazing film opens with a family having a picnic. The boy and girl are playing while their parents are eating their lunch. The boy is pretending to be a space alien.
A little while later, the boy takes a nap and when he wakes up, he quickly learns that a real space alien known as Ro-man has killed everyone on Earth except for members of his immediate family. His family has escaped death only because his father has invented a type of force-field generator that makes them invisible to every conceivable type of electronic detection equipment but they know it is only a matter of time before Ro-man finds them.
Ro-man has been instructed to destroy all human life so that this particular race of space aliens can colonize the Earth. However, Ro-man never succeeds in finding and killing this one remaining family, so the Ro-man master, who is even more evil and powerful than Ro-man himself, becomes impatient and destroys the Earth. As the Earth starts to disintegrate, the boy wakes up and sees that his family and everyone he knows are fine and that the alien invasion of the Earth was only a dream -- or was it? Watch this film and find out.
The best thing about this film is that it is full of horror and suspense. One cannot help but feel terrified at the thought of a race of Ro-man-like creatures ruling the Earth. Be sure to see it if you get a chance. It is truly astonishing!
Magic Christmas Tree (1964)
Boy gets wishes granted from the Magic Christmastree
If you like scary Halloween movies and joyful Christmas movies, you will love this film. This film opens in black-&-white. It is late afternoon on Halloween in a small Western town. Three boys are walking home from school when they pass a spooky, ugly old house. The townspeople say that an evil witch lives there. The boys are terrified but curious.
One of the boys summons the courage to actually sneak into the yard. Suddenly, an old woman grabs him by the arm and he yells in terror! However, the old woman just wants him to help her get her cat out of a tree. He climbs the tree to get the cat out but he slips and falls on his head and is knocked unconscious. The cat then jumps out of the tree at which point, the film switches to color.
When the boy awakens, he sees that the spooky, ugly old house is now a beautiful mansion in the midst of a lush, green tropical paradise. The old woman is a beautiful young woman who really is a witch! The witch gives the boy a magic ring which has a secret compartment. In that compartment is a seed that will grow a magic Christmas tree. The witch explains that when he wears the ring, the Christmas tree will grant him three wishes.
Late one night, he plants the seed and by sunrise the next morning, a large, magnificent Christmas tree had grown. He then makes his three wishes.
His first wish is to have power. When the Christmas tree grants him the power, he gains the ability to turn objects into completely different objects, make cars and trucks move in any direction he wants them to move and to make people do whatever he wants just by pointing his finger at them.
However, he is not satisfied so, he makes his second wish. He wishes to have Santa Claus all to himself. When the Christmas tree grants this wish, he makes Santa his slave and forces him to give him more presents than he had ever dreamed of having before. Meanwhile, others are wondering what happened to Santa Claus. People all over the world from the New York Police Department to the Sacramento National Guard start looking for Santa Claus but because the boy has enslaved Santa, no one can find him.
However, despite his great powers and his control over Santa Claus, the boy is still not satisfied and he has only one wish left! What is his final wish? Watch this film to find out.
I liked the way this film uses black-&-white and color film to distinguish between the ordinary small town life and the Land of Magic. It reminded me of how the movie Wizard of Oz used black-&-white and color film to distinguish between ordinary Kansas farm life and the Land of Oz.
Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny (1972)
Santa is stranded on a tropical beach and it is almost Christmas!
I have seen Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny over 600 times and I would have to say that it is the greatest Christmas classic of all time! It is an epic film to which nothing can be compared; a fantasy-adventure which is fun for the whole family. Truly astonishing! This amazing film opens with a scene inside of Santa's workshop at the North Pole. The elves have finished making all of the toys and are ready to load them into Santa's sleigh, but Santa and his sleigh are nowhere to be found! The camera dissolves to a close-up of a palm tree and then slowly zooms out revealing a deserted tropical beach -- deserted, that is, except for Santa Claus who is sitting in his sleigh which is deeply mired in the sand. We soon learn that his reindeer got too hot while pulling Santa's sleigh through the tropics and so they dropped him and his sleigh on the beach and flew off to the North Pole without him.
Santa uses his telepathic powers to summon a large group of children to help him pull his sleigh out. The tension builds as the children try to pull Santa's sleigh out with a variety of animals. Unfortunately, his sleigh is so deeply mired in the sand that nothing, not even a big strong horse, can pull it out.
Just when there appears to be no hope of rescuing Santa and thereby saving Christmas, the Ice Cream Bunny comes to save the day but can the Ice Cream Bunny really succeed where all others have failed? Watch this film and find out. You will be amazed! The best thing about this film is that it is very suspenseful despite being made on an extremely low budget. When watching this film, one cannot help but wonder how, or even if, Santa can be rescued in time to deliver all of the Christmas presents to all of the girls and boys. Be sure to see it if you get a chance.
