The Stranger: Episode 4 (2020)
Season 1, Episode 4
10/10
excellent thrill ride

I found this series gripping, and one of the mid-way episodes ended in a way that made me bolt out of my chair and yell "WTF?!?" at the TV. I confess I stayed up and binged the rest of it that night, I was that rabid to know what would happen. This is a really good series to watch if you want to take your mind off reality for a handful of hours. Superb cast, well written, very satisfying.

brave and touching (includes a couple minor spoilers)

Warning: Spoilers
The real story here isn't the comedy itself but the project being undertaken by this touring comedy troupe of Muslims: to use comedy to reach out to people who may never have had a conversation with a Muslim before, and to hopefully contradict stereotypes and misconceptions just by being themselves.

Whether you like all the comics or every scene of the standup performances seems kinda secondary to me, I didn't like all of it but I really like what they were trying to do. I probably like their man-on-the-street stuff best of all.

I think what this group did was rad. Some of the acts were edgy and pushed the limits a bit - maybe deliberately choosing locations where you think people tend to be conservative and then cursing and telling jokes about STDs is a bit if a contradiction, but hey, If these people were gonna play it safe they never woulda left NYC. I kept wishing I could've seen one of their shows live. And plus I totally would go bowling with Muslims!

Shallow side note: Nagin is my new fashion guru, she is such a snappy dresser! I want to know where she shops.

The Booth at the End (2011–2012)

original and fresh, I want more!!!

It's so rare to find a series that is not predictable on some level. Something about even the way this show is shot and the quality and sparseness of the audio seems different than most shows. I love not knowing... I have my theories but it's not really clear to me who the main character is or where he comes from or if he's even mortal and who he works for or if he's more in control than he claims or WHAT. I did not at first expect the overlap between some of the various story-lines, so there was a growing pattern emerging as we (viewers) get deeper into it. The fact that some characters end up having desires that are in direct opposition means that only one can succeed unless one changes what it is that s/he wants, and that makes it even more intriguing. I love that it all takes place in the diner and what happens outside that confined world is only revealed through verbal accounts of the characters - proving that you don't need to see explosions or shoot-outs to make a program work if the premise is interesting enough. I really hope there will be further seasons, and that the story will be fully realized.
