Paradox Lost (2021)
Well made but...
I enjoyed watching this, was a little funny, a little confusing--but I'm pretty sure that was intended.
Like I said, I enjoyed it--right up to the end. Was that the end? At 1:33:36 it just cut off, like I had an incomplete file. Was there supposed to be more? I sure hope so--the non-ending ruined an otherwise decent flick. The final words, "What, wait. What?" was just how I felt about the story when the end credits came up.
The Pond (2021)
A good watch if you're in a dark, patient mindset.
A nice spooky, atmospheric film, slow but keeps your interest. Suspenseful. Where's the monster? Ooooooo...it's gonna get ya!
Some of the acting was a bit rough, most noticeably from the kids, but still not awful.
My main concern was that I was burning 1:34 on another one of those artsy, symbolic stories without a decent resolution but the ending, while not a complete surprise, was satisfying enough that I can recommend seeing it.
Overall, a freaky, effective flick that made fine use of a tiny budget.
Singularity Stories Vol. I (2019)
Whew! Now THAT'S a short!
I don't give many vids a rating as high as nine, but this one is in with the best I've seen. Very funny, a little scary. And exceptionally well done.
Dust has an irritating habit of offering vids that are well made but have no ending-- they just stop.
This one is an exception, it has an ending. And it was perfect.
Driftwood (2016)
Painfully slow, might have made a passable 5-10 minute short.
This is a perfect example of why I don't believe 10 star reviews from anyone who signed on to only to review a film. Or why I don't go to film festivals anymore. This supposedly won 3 awards at 3 different festivals? Please.
Unless you actually like watching ppl sitting and staring or or watch them quietly walking, or watching a car slowly approach from a distance then you'll agree that most of the footage was a total waste.
There was no dialogue or actual indications that this was a scifi, but that's OK.
The little bits of story that did occur did not impart any great insights or surprises, just a little bit of mild situational weirdness. The ending was predictable, without any originality or any semblance of a punch line.
Don't waste your time if you don't have a good fast forward setting.
Snatchers (2019)
I think arfdawg and I saw different movies--I got the good one.
I don't usually watch movies like this but after reading the other reviews I gave it a shot. This one was a fun surprise.
I hadn't expected it to be so well acted and produced. The gags and social commentary barbs just kept coming. The special effects had the right mix of corn and gore for the often perfect impact.
For sure, not your typical teen comedy/horror.
Tidelands (2018)
why?
Why review a show with the words like "nice" and "...it's not perfect but..." and then give it a 10 rating? And we wonder why the IMDB ratings are so screwed up.
As far as Tidelands goes, it's better than most ozzie shows that pop up but that ain't saying a lot. I don't know if I'll make it all the way through the season. Overall, I'd give it maybe a 6/10
Reminiscence (2014)
IMDb's been hacked--or invaded!
After reading the other reviews and seeing a score here of 7.9 with over 1170 responses, I was really looking forward to seeing it. But now I can only assume that someone's broken into IMDb and flooded their servers with bogus votes. To think that a movie of this one's pitifully poor quality could have even had that many responses on IMDb is beyond belief. I don't even know where to start--EVERYTHING was bad, the acting, dialogue, story, editing, pacing, camera work, effects, soundtrack, audio levels, etc. etc. etc.
The only positive thing I can say about this vid is that it supports my claim that current technology has become too cheap and too easy to use. Nowadays, any idiot with a few extra bucks can pawn garbage like this off on so many unsuspecting viewers.
Definitely don't pay any money to see this junk and don't waste your time on it unless you can see it in a format that allows you to quickly skip through it to sample just how awful it is. Film students may find it useful though-- for a good laugh.
