Las Bestias (II) (2015)
Before buying a house in the country side, go see this first!
6 May 2023
The psychological drama Las Bestias, directed by the Oscar-nominated Rodrigo Sorogoyen, depicts the story of a teacher's dream to live stress-free in the mountains and start a new life as a vegetable grower. However, what appears to be a dreamy scenario turns into a nightmare. The movie features excellent acting that appears so natural that it's hard to distinguish from reality, even the villains' portrayal is spot on. With its intense and oppressive depiction of lawlessness, peer pressure, and local norms, this movie is highly recommended for viewing. Also the music is there, without really consciously noticing it. But it carries the moments. It is Marvelously directed and made!

Yellowstone: Kill the Messenger (2018)
Season 1, Episode 2
7/10
Strong performances overshadowed by overacting in intense family drama.
21 December 2022
I would rate the first two episodes of Yellowstone a 6,5 out of 10. While the series has an interesting concept and follows the lives of the Dutton family, who own and operate the largest contiguous ranch in the United States, I found the execution to be somewhat lacking.

One issue I had with the show was the overacting of Kelly Reilly as Beth Dutton. While I understand that the character is supposed to be intense and strong-willed, I felt that Reilly's performance was a bit too exaggerated at times. This may be due to the script, the character's personality, or the direction from the director, but it detracted from my enjoyment of the show.

The score for the series, which includes a theme that sounds similar to the 1969 hit single "Sympathy" by Rare Bird, is a nice touch and adds to the drama and tension of the show. This doesn't help to make up for my issues with the acting and the overall execution of the series.

Overall, while I can see the potential in Yellowstone, and the good acting of Kevin Costner, the first two episodes didn't fully deliver for me. It may still be worth checking out for fans of family dramas and intense, character-driven stories, but I would approach it with some caution.

Ok story, but lack of flow
18 December 2021
The opening scene does promise a very good movie. But movies can be illusive.

The story line is thin, but ok enough, there are more movies which are good enough with a thin story.

The lack of continuity is a problem in this movie. Also some sequences are cut very strangely, if there are a sort of pauzes in a supposed fast shooting scene. Most prominent in the sequence (1:15:45) when they are in a small room, with the girl on the bed, what then happens lags flow totally. Also in that same sequence the foley sounds are mainly terrible absent. Then the sound track is mainly absent or present but with the wrong music.

Finally, the movie suffers also from the directing skills.

Still it can be an interesting movie to watch for film academy students to figure out about what exactly is wrong with this movie.

Great original plot twists. Great directing and acting. Every episode is a different story but with the same foundation, the Romanov's heritage. Do see this hidden gem! I gave it a nine!

Beautifully acted and excellent directed too!

Made with lot of detail. Very nice cut's and composed music. Acting style is surely not mainstream but modestly acted as it should. Of course it is a compressed version of the book. The book is over 500 pages. But this movie is made with much dedication with a great end result! I give it a nine!

Like to binch like it is the 80's, here you're at the right place!

Ok, we admit to come clear... we did watched this serie in 3 days and now we have S3 to see. This is really a very good serie about how it was in those days.

Nobody could trust anyone. No one had any privacy.

This to keep the system without commercial market mechanisms etc intact. But by doing that, it corrupted the system itself. Inequality in powers is what one also can observe in todays world. Within corporations, etc.

All in all, go see this serie! Great acting, good directors work, good music, etc etc.

Also nice the way the set lights are done, old 80's style. Same with the cliff hanger stills and bits and props ...

For the last time; do see this great serie!

Minimal scenes, maximum suspense building.
10 June 2020
Nice camera work, film editing and post fx. Beautifully directed and therefore well-acted. The film script is also very natural. Good, natural dialogues. And alternating chapters; then slowly, then fast cuts, then again black image, then a minimal image, then again fast film cuts. All in all an 8!

What a gem!

If you don't like too much detectives, like I do, then you have to see this master peace for a change. If this would be tge normal standard of detectives, I would love it!

Slowly the movie starts spinning up, soon enough you will be drawn into this movie, with great and humorous dialogues. And slowly the story unfolds. Very natural acting and great directors work. Actually the whole technical chain has been worked out with craftsmanship; the editing, lighting, the decoration, bits and props, camera work, the very accurate music that is there and isn't. This is synergy, beautifully made. I give it a 9!

What happens when an other duck land in the same pond?
12 January 2019
Good insights on what it means to be a flight controller. And how to cope with your ego and self assurance. Which later is needed for the job can also become a trap. All mixed with lightly offered humor. Especially the end of the movie is ment to be on purpose as corney as possible. Once you understand that, it is all together a great movie with very good acting. 8 stars!

Real recommendation, but take your time and 'unrush'.
8 January 2019
Very natural acting. Well directed and cut. It is a calm slow movie, very intriguing. All in black and white, it's 1970-1971. Lot's of work in the recreation of the details, like old cars, interiors, behavior, buildings, etc. First I thought not a recommendable movie, but then one gets more and more involved into the movie. Beautiful camera work.

Will be forgotten in time
4 January 2019
Nice costumes, with humoristic modern details. Not nice the plastic bouquet at the side table and the post processed smoke from the chimney. Or was that part of the humor? Maybe I missed it. Good acting. But the story line is without much tension bowes. The story is thin. Nice filming locations. Lots of wide angel takes. A lot of effort in the film. But it hasn't that 'yes' factor.

The flip side of progress
10 November 2018
Like Joni Mitchell already sang: "Don't it always seem to go That you don't know what you've got 'Till it's gone"

Here people are striving for all kinds of progress, to realize their personal goals in life. Meanwhile being their own and nature worst enemy. And finally to realize that simple living with the ones you love.

A movie with enough tense and humor. And if watched attentively enough, modern ideas (i.e. prefab building methods) are nicely mixed in.

Underrated movie, make up your own opinion and write a review!
29 October 2016
So it is rated currently in Oktober 2016, for a 5.8... Why so low?! I have seen many, many movies. This is a gem!!!

Go see this brilliant movie for yourself. And do write a review. This western has beautiful filmed scenes, great Dolby, a-specific western, because a woman is in the lead with guns! Great acting and directing! So could it be that the low ranking has to with the self declared professionals review writers, has difficulties to pace up with a modern western with a lady in the lead? Or what? I recommend to see this great modern western to all you movie lovers, and judge for your self. You won't regret it!

For those who love the Stephen King way
25 September 2013
A typical Stephen King sci-fi. The story telling has a nice build up. Every episode has a lot of exiting tension moments. It ends every time with a nice cliff hanger. Some of the acting kids could improve their acting. Dean Norris on the other hand, as James 'Big Jim' Rennie show's his great acting skills, together with Mike Vogel Dale, as 'Barbie' Barbara and Natalie Martinez, as Sheriff Linda Esquivel, they compensate for the actors with less experience. About the synergy of the acting, the solution could be the way it is directed or how parts of the dialogues in the script are written, the end result could be sharper. So that the acting of everybody would be more natural. And actors are not forced into an unnatural dialogue moment. Then the 8 out of 10 would be a 9! Anyhow, the kids love the tension buildups. And of course, since it is a typical Stephen King genre, there will be enough people who love this new series like me, because more than 350 million copies of his novels worldwide. So say the word; it's Stephen King on the screen!

The Inescapable Road Movie - The Apocalypse Of Destruction
3 October 2012
The Making: This movie was shot during three years of production. Only at most 13 days left for the last film takes, but then River Phoenix died sadly due to a mix of drugs at an age of just 23. Then the legal tug of war started for almost 20 years. In the mean time the Dutch director George Sluizer became after those twenty years, almost eighty years and now suffering from his illness.

The legal war was about to end in an apocalypse of destruction. Where the insurance company ordered to destroy the raw film material that was laying for almost 20 years in a safe. All the creative work and acting would be gone forever, but.. When the ill director heard on a Tuesday afternoon, that they would destroy the material on the very next Friday, he ordered to save and rescue the material for mankind. Knowing that all the legal path ways were gone, he ordered with the sense of urgency, a burglar to get the material from the save! And that was the start of the editing of this wonderful road movie, that otherwise was burned and therefore stolen from mankind. Isn't this true story worth to make a movie about? That the 13 days of shooting where missing, didn't affect the end result. As a matter of fact, it adds value to this one of a kind movie.

The end result - The Movie It was a real pleasure to see the calm, but intense images. You could feel the heat in more then one way. The colors of the material, the acting, the desolate Monument Valley atmosphere, the inescapable situation, the desire of River Phoenix as Boy, all contributed to the thrilling heat.

The epilogue of the making My question to the director was, if the legal dossier could be closed now. In other words; Can we all enjoy now this movie? Unfortunately, NO. Not at this moment, because there is still an issue about who owns the rights on the negatives.. Can you imagine?

I hope, as soon as possible, you all can enjoy this inescapable road movie.. in more then one way.

Excellent Tension Bows
26 July 2012
The primary target group for Terra Nova, are kids from 14 and up. They will love the exciting small tension bows. These small story lines with their tension building plots, within the episode story, repeats over and over again. Of course in different forms. I know, the tempo of the series is excellent and the script is very creative. Like all other series, of course there are open ends within the story line, but who cares? It is so exciting to watch. That's why it' s so strange that the rating is so low at the moment. Our kids and friends loved it and they are very disappointed that the series has ended. My advise for the investors, focus on this target group and it will, like Star track, have followers for decades.
