Perchance to Dream (2009)
Compelling Animated Story
It was interesting seeing this short animated story with no dialog or voice over.I liked it but I feel it would deliver a stronger message to a broader audience with a voice over. Some elements were difficult to follow.I saw this at a screening at the BUG theater and was surprised that there were no questions for the Q&A.It left the audience speechless. There were people talking about it afterward and nobody had even heard of this situation with this whale called Lolita. I hope people who have a love for creatures from the ocean get a chance to see this short film.People should go look up Lolita the whale at Miami Sea Acquarium, they will be amazed,I know I was. Technically the animation is good, but the score is outstanding!
Avatar (2009)
Mind Blowing Effects.
Amazing technology.Mind blowing special effects. It's worth a look see for sure. When you look at the budget for the 3d, and take into consideration that the story was enough to keep you interested, you can really just see the non 3d version. At the end of the day the movie is about blue people, and boy meets girl. Let's hope they don't raise the ticket price for everything as a result. Overall great movie. The 3D glasses are annoying, and then your asked to recycle them. Just another way for people to make more money. I wonder if the character of Jake's legs were photo shopped, because he was in a wheelchair and his legs looked like a person's legs who are disabled, because you can visually see the muscle loss.
Dandy Kids Documentary (2008)
Emotional and Tough subject.
Dandy Kids does an excellent job in addressing this rare or not so rare brain condition.I give kudos to Ms. Rae for tackling this subject and to the parents and children for their bravery involved with living with this syndrome. I was interested enough after viewing this to write a letter to my member of Congress. Somebody needs to give Rae some funds to make films. It's obvious that she has a heart to make films that matter. I hope to see more films by this filmmaker. The song featured at the end of the film with the children introducing themselves as Dandy Kids is chocked full of emotion. As a man, and father it made me appreciate the good health of my children even more. Congrats to all involved. I hope that more in the medical community will get a chance to see this film.
The Goal (2005)
Inspiring ,and Encouraging!
It's obvious that this film was made with little or no resources. But I found it to be truthful and realistic in the approach of telling what families go through when tragedy strikes. It doesn't matter whether your tragedy is a spinal cord injury or just a great loss of a life from the one you once knew. This story will Inspire and Encourage you.If it doesn't then you have no heart or compassion. It's a shame that this movie hasn't been out there in the way Facing the Giants has, because it's as every bit as good,if not better.Yes they touch on Christian belief, and they didn't have some big point where the main character was converted to Christianity, but his family was a family of faith before a tragic accident, and they stayed true to their faith. They told their story and belief in a way without beating you over the head with the Bible or Christianeese. This movie should be broadcast on lifetime,or cable somewhere. It has the ability to Inspire and Encourage many people. These athletes featured in this story are amazing. As an athlete I'm sure some athletes may find this sappy, but it's life is not always about being the tough guy.I say great job to the Cast and Crew, and I hope they continue to do more films like The Goal.
