Brilliant
21 September 2023
I was expecting the worst from the trolls on Elon's X Twitter comments, but fortunately they were wrong as usual.

A brilliant story and creative finale to the Indiana Jones Legacy.

As fun as many of the early movies that began the journey, and just as thrilling reintroducing elements of the originals, with familiar friends and enemies, along with some new ones.

If there was a weak point of this movie for me, it was the very last closing hat scene.

I enjoyed the journey back into time too.

I like that the story brings some background information about Indie that I didn't know about his family, however I think it leaves a few unresolved questions.

At what point did he have this family? Was it before his first adventure or in-between? Because it seemed that this final movie suggested it was before, and if that is the case, it means Indiana Jones was a player. He's had different women in all the movies.

Cinematography, story, etc. This movie is exceptional as expected.

I guess it was a good time to bring this legacy to an end, since Harrison Ford is 81 years old.

It's amazing that he still has the energy to work on movies.

WHY, Just WHY?
19 September 2023
There are so many aspects that are wrong about this movie. It reminds me of a long short film written by a student filmmaker and it looks like one too.

First, is the out of place product placement at the beginning of the movie for Ouija Occult Spirit Boards. It's clearly product placement, and I can only ask why, why push it on junior high and high school kids.

Second, is the need to try to target every racial and gender demographic possible.

Third, a very confusing mod podge of era's that looks like it's occurring in the 1970's or 80's from vehicles to decor, only to also have modern cell phones.

Fourth, it looks super low budget, like a student film. Student filmmakers generally have only a few thousand dollars to work with or less, so they utilize friends and families homes and local locations, without a budget for an art department to set the look. I've seen multiple student shorts during film school that look higher budget than this movie.

Fifth, poor acting from beginning to end.

Sixth, poor screenplay and story. Apparently this movie is a book adaptation. I never read the book, but I hope it was better than the adaption to film, because it was just a poor story.

Seventh, the worse cinematography I've seen in anything released under the Disney license since some of the 1970's Disney movies, when framing shots and scene choices were still in there infancy.

Unfortunately, it's just not that good of a movie. Not very funny, lots of predictability, some of the scenes presented a stereotypical systematic racial overtone about black students that was completely unnecessary.

I am giving it two stars, only because its not the absolutely worst movie I've ever seen, but it's down at the bottom.

The mouse must of been out of town when Disney produced The Slumber Party.

A non-preachy movie about a child's search for God
13 June 2023
Story wise, this movie is exceptional as it walks you through the life and journey of a young girl's daily life in elementary school, moving, summer as she struggles to find meaning and purpose.

From a Faith Based Movie perspective, this movie is not about Christianity, Judaism, Catholicism, Atheism, but a journey of discovering hope in God, as a young girl finds herself caught in a family of parents from two different religious backgrounds while facing life challenges every kid experiences and many parents experience.

Exceptional acting, directing, story and cinematography. Perhaps one of the best movies I've seen in quite a few years about average people.

Highly recommended family movie, especially for children in dual religious families where division has occurred.

One of the beautiful things about this movie, is that it doesn't attempt to give the correct answer, as most Faith Based films do, it merely shows one girls struggle as she goes looking for the answer, and the resolution at the end movie leaves one feeling hopeful.

This movie is caught in an IMDB Rating war
12 June 2023
Massive attempt to discredit Left Behind: Rise of the Antichrist via, the IMDB Ratings. 80% are unreliable as shown if you click the score.

Skewed either far towards the right at 10 stars or far to the left at 1 stars.

This is what happens when those who hate a movies message attack it via movie rating systems and those who support its message compensate against the attack.

In reality this movie scores a decent 6 IMDB stars.

It has decent cinematography, decent acting, it gets a little slow in spots, but otherwise mostly enjoyable.

Working against this movie is the anti-Christian cancel culture Twitter mob who hate Kevin Sorbo for his public openness about his Christian faith where he heavily promoted this movie.

Second thing working against it, is this is basically the third reboot attempt of this movie series. Of all three reboots, this may be the best of those based on the first book.

The best of all the reboots and sequels to date however is Left Behind: World At War which has exceptional production quality.

If you enjoy end time movies, faith based movies, family friendly movies then you will probably enjoy Left Behind: Rise of the Antichrist.

If nothing else, this movie will leave you feeling as though you are living through aspects of the story in the present. It's message and social outlook is very present day.

6 Underground (2019)

I liked it, but
11 June 2023
I liked 6 Underground, but I don't love it, it was watchable, lots of energy and amazing stunts and an interesting story concept, but I don't feel any better or worse for having watched it, other than giving me something to do on an otherwise boring evening.

It almost feels like it was trying to hard to be the next Mission Impossible franchise.

What makes a movie worth a persons valuable time is whether or not at the conclusion of the story, I care about the characters and feel resolved about the its conclusion.

6 Underground spends the majority of the movie introducing the background of it's team members who how it's leader found them, and then doesn't provide enough time to develop the relationships among the team members to make me feel connected, instead it comes to a rather quick ending built solely around the resolution of a specific story.

Ultimately, it is a bunch of mini background stories, and then a single story which just felt to short.

I think a sequel to 6 Underground could actually be a welcomed improvement now that the character introductions are out of the way and the overall purpose of the team is established.

Interesting documentary
5 June 2023
I am a big fan of documentaries and this documentary film meets everything I expect from one, perhaps shedding some light onto an interesting events of first contact in Brazil.

Unfortunately, despite lots of collaborating eye witness accounts, it was a bit underwhelming to not have any feeling of conclusion at the end.

As a documentary filmmaker, I kept thinking of how differently I would have attempted to conduct some of the interviews had I been making Moment of Contact. Of course I wasn't present so perhaps it simply wasn't possible, but I suspect it may have been.

For example, I would have wanted to conduct the interviews where more than one witness was present, separately and independent of the others, rather than have them at the same place, same spot, same time. I think that would have felt more credible and made it more interesting to compare the different testimonies for any variations or differences. There did seem to be some attempt to do that in at least of the interviews after the fact.

However, I realize that when making a documentary in particular, time is always limited and restrictive, especially if multiple interviews or different locations are required.

I gave this documentary a 7 Stars rating for its work and structure, since taking a lot of interviews, and history and details and making them into a flowing story can be challenging, but I placed it only into my Pretty Good Movies list which is usually only for 5 to 6 Stars, instead of my Highly Recommend Movies list which is 7 to 8 Stars.

Mainly because the value of this film to me as a filmmaker and documentary film creator is higher than what it would be for someone I might recommend the film to who doesn't have a history or experience in making documentaries.

That said, if you enjoy documentaries, then you'll probably watching the Moment of Contact moderately enjoyable and interesting.

Did I just watch the John Wick Matrix sequel?
5 June 2023
Yet another John Wick movie, the longest and most boring of them all. Sad to have to give John Wick 4 lowly 6 Stars, down from the 8 Stars of the first two and 7 Stars of the third.

John Wick 4 pulls so much out of the Matrix visualization, scenes and storyline, it could have almost been a new Matrix movie. There was definitely a scene that reminded me of Neo and Agent Smith fighting in the rain, except this time it was John Wick fighting the most limber fat man to ever exist.

Like the most recent Matrix movie it failed to keep me entertained with a sub-par story line that at times introduced characters that reminded me of the early Batman movies, like Tim Burton's Penguin or Mr. Freeze.

It was like watching four different movies for the price of one.

Particularly nonsensical are the scenes where Wick fights a fat guy who is more limber than a high school chair leader, and the Matrix like dance club scenes where people just dance around mindlessly while guns are blazing and swords and axes fly around dropping people dead at their feet.

The story simply gave me no reason to care what happened in this movie and that is a fatal flaw at least from a screenwriting perspective.

The first two John Wick movies were great because we knew what John Wick's motivations were, they gave us something to care about, something we could all relate to, revenge against someone who killed our spouse or killed our favorite pet. A man who just wanted out of the his ugly past and instead had his house burned down, a guy who wanted a fresh start.

But John Wick 4 didn't give us anything to care about.

I enjoyed seeing Lawrence Fishburne with Keanu again, they often have great chemistry together, but Fishburne's camo, similar to his previous in the John Wick series, didn't add anything of value to the story. It makes sense that they had him appear to add to the Matrix connection of the Keanu, and they didn't want that to be become a distraction, but if they are going to star him, it would have been great if they could of given him some value and a meaningful reason to be in the story.

I admit, I was skeptical after John Wick 3 if they could give me reason to continue caring about the motivation of John, and I was right, they couldn't deliver.

Black Adam (2022)
4/10
Most expensive boring movie ever made?
29 May 2023
Black Adam just goes to prove that no matter how many A-star actors and amazing CGI you put in a movie, a bad story and bad acting is still a bad story and bad acting.

This movie may be the worse super hero action movie I have watched, with poor acting, boring story line, non-thrilling story development, to much boring narrative dialog and just an unremarkable movie from beginning to end.

I gave Black Adam four stars and put it on my Stinking Baby Farts list which is my list of movies I do not recommend you spend your money or time watching.

On a positive note, there are some amazing CGI visual effects and cinematography, that's about the best of it.

Acting wise, lots of poor acting and dialogue delivery, including from "The Rock".

I can't even recommend watching this movie for free if it shows up on YouTube, Roku, Popcorn or other free streaming movies services unless you you can't find anything better for free to watch.

This is a fun summer movie.
28 May 2023
An entirely original movie that takes multiple concepts and mixes them into a unique story of survival and collaboration between a man a child who become stranded on earth 65 million years ago.

Non-stop action and cringeworthy moments as Murphy's law throws everything possible in the way to prevent them from reaching their ultimate goal.

A dash of alien explorers and Jurassic park, make this an a great summer theater movie for 2023.

Some of the child acting and story could have been a tad bit better, but it works, has nice cinematography, and some great moments.

As someone who has attended film school where I had to analyze tons of movies, screenplays and worked on lots of productions, this movie hits enough of the key elements to make it to my highly recommended watch list.

I enjoyed watching it.

Last Sentinel (2023)
3/10
2 unredeemable hours wasted
28 May 2023
I am an avid disaster and apocalypse movie buff, it's my favorite genre second only to time travel. The Last Sentinel unfortunately ended up in my Stinky Baby Farts movie list.

Other reviewers have put it best in their descriptions calling it boring, mind numbing, plotless, and using 1980's imagery and technology for a 2063 future film.

I painstakingly watched the entire movie, and within a few minutes found myself more entertained by packing up a moving box I'd been procrastinating working on.

It was long, drawn out, unexciting, poor bump points to carry it forward, even the "thrilling" parts were not thrilling. I hate giving spoilers so I'll just save you some time and say, if you have absolutely nothing else to do, then you might enjoy this a little.

It was heavy and dark from beginning to end, the acting was moderately believable but way to much dialog.

It failed in all categories that it attempted to hit, but I gave it an extra star (total of three on IMDB), because the writer and producers were somehow able to convince a studio to make it. If you can do that, and everyone gets paid, you've accomplished more than more filmmakers.

The Last Sentinel is good enough that it's watchable, but not overly enjoyable, not exciting, not very entertaining, and reminds me of watching a boring documentary.

Dark Excellence
19 May 2023
Brilliance within heavy darkness is the best way I can summarize this movie, both as a reviewer and film creator.

The Artifice Girl masters the art of filmmaking that every filmmaker wants to achieve, with a small cast, few locations and an amazingly intriguing and original story.

Reach into the darkest areas of culture and society through the eyes of your guide Cherry, into the new age of Artificial Intelligence to the extreme.

Not everyone will enjoy suffering through the often heavy and oppressing theme of defeating child predators, but those who do, will be rewarded at the end.

The cinematography is well done, but purposefully mundane, the acting at times could be better and more believable, but decide to allow yourself to engage in the story, in some ways it reminds me of the original movie A. I. with the same kind of cold feel.

I had to give this movie 8 Stars for its brilliant story, despite the things I didn't enjoy from a filmmaker perspective.

Story is weak and doesn't resolve well.
15 August 2022
I'm someone who wants to see a movie that's been low rated, pull off a better rating when I watch it, because I have a film background and have been trained to analyze movies. I'm looking different aspects in movies than most people are when they're watching a movie.

And though this movie has some really good qualities such as scenery and wardrobe, even some interesting graphics and fighting scenes, it's greatest weaknesses is its story, and that is not forgivable.

Some of the acting is weak and part of that is because the characters for the story are not well developed. When an actor or actress doesn't understand their character, it's generally not possible for them to relay a sense of believability.

This story tries to accomplish to much and wavers between ideas without Really providing the necessary background to make it work well.

Unlike a very successful movie, this attempt doesn't have a well developed or strong rising conflict or resolution to the conflict, but instead feels rushed to conclude.

Additionally because the story is rushed at the end, the ending feels incomplete. It ended with a bump point to what seems like should have been the continuation of the story.

If the ending had been tied up better, it may have worked well enough to give it a passing grade.

Unfortunately, it doesn't pass the story test and therefore gets added to my review list of "Stinky Baby Fart Movies".

A nice lazy weekend end movie
15 August 2022
Its not a big budget movie, but its worth watching on a lazy weekend.

The acting is decent, the cinematography is solid, these story is interesting enough.

It had a pretty low IMDB score, so i wasn't expecting much, and as i suspected it is a lot better than most viewers seemed to rate it.

It was what I've come to expect from Canada based or directed productions, having worked on similar pilot films and commercials.

The ending could have been better, and leaves some obvious questions, but resolves well enough I be able to sleep well.

In essence this is a pandemic or post pandemic made movie, built upon a pandemic gone wrong theme that results in a zombie chow down.

I have no regrets having watched it and included it in my list of "Pretty Good Movies"

Very recommended family-oriented movie
14 August 2022
In this generation that's anti masculinity and anti-fatherhood, anti family, I really love seeing movies like this that focus on some of the ways, parents often disconnect from their children and resolve with a reconnection. I enjoyed The Adam Project movie for the same reason.

These are just normal everyday kids of various ethnicities who are friends experiencing life together in a genuine way, without all the artificial social propaganda that kids are not even thinking about.

This movie ranks up there with Agent Cody Banks, the Adam project, and other kids movies that really pull off the family based movie theme in a unique way.

It combines secret agent, super hero, baseball, space and summer camp family themes into one great movie.

There will be some people who watch this movie and not be able to relate to the idea of cross-ethnic Romance, children engaged in violence, or the theme of Father and Son bonding and masculinity, but that is just refkective of the social degeneration of our current society.

From a filmmaker perspective the story is solid, the photography and cinematography is excellent, the action is very well done, the graphics are very well done, the CGI is very well done, the story is believable and most of the acting is believable as well, it's overall a very well made and entertaining movie.

There are a couple scenes where the action with the kids could have been a little bit stronger, and a couple of places where the acting of the adults could have been a little bit stronger but I'm not sure if that was intentional or not. Overall the acting is pretty solid.

I recommend watching the movie.

Earwig (2021)
7/10
Dark and Twisted
8 August 2022
Earwig is so dark and twisted that you will either love it or hate it.

It reminds me of a 1989 movie I saw with a friend that was so bizarre and dark, that i never forgot it, never want to see it again, but in an odd way love it. That was, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Love.

Though Earwig's story is nothing like it, it has that same kind of darkness running throughout.

It pulls off so many technical concepts they teach in film school excellently, to the point I gave it at least a star or two higher than maybe i would if I hadn't gone to film school.

I don't think there is a good way to describe this movies story.

It is very much an artistic movie from a story perspective, with minimal dialogue and there are elements of it that remind of Tim Burton's darker movies.

100% recommended for anyone in film school or interested in filmmaking or cinematography.

Otherwise, it's dark, weird, and strange enough I'd say don't watch it unless your in a good mood and mentally healthy.

Carter (2022)

Interesting cinematography
8 August 2022
First the things most people want to know: The story takes some snippets from the Matrix, Resident Evil at different places. Switches between English and Korean (mostly Korean), is way to long, and because its non stop high energy action and motion from its opening scene, the final conflict and resolve of the story is nothing more than coming off this speed trip to normal paced reality and a cheesy last second unended conflict scene too suggest it might lead to a sequel or just as a teaser.

Only near the end did it start to get a little boring, mainly because every fathomable cinematography angle and technique ever conceived in film history ran out and had to be recycled.

From a cinematography and filmmaker perspective It is an amazing film to watch, because it uses all kinds of controlled speed manipulation, angles and unedited camera moves that'll make you ponder how it was done. Lots of amazing drone, crane, rail, and angle manipulations I have never seen before.

If you like resident evil, then you know what your getting except this would be the MA-13 or Unrated version.

Some of the acting, mainly by the English speaking cast is poor, what I would expect from a low budget production using inexperienced actors and actresses, but there is nothing low budget about this movie other than the poorly executed and stiff dialog.

A great movie presents a level of believable authenticity, even when not realistic. For the most part Carter pulls this off, despite fighting sequences that would be totally impossible and unrealistic. So it meets that objective.

I gave it a 6 star rating because of the visually interesting cinematography. If i rated it entirely on the story, i might give it a 5 or less because its not very original in concept.

The fact that it was filmed entirely in Korea was a good decision from a filmmaker perspective and it makes sense, because a majority of this movie could not be filmed with live stunt work in the USA due to safety limitations.

It's a decent lazy day weekend movie.

The Lazarus Project (2022–2023)

To the point
24 July 2022
This is simply brilliant.

It's the best UK production that I have ever seen, with perhaps the exception of Dr. Who which is a totally different genre of scifi.

The Lazarus Project takes all of the Time Travel movies and TV shows and presents a unique spin on the concept.

The production quality, story acting is movie quality and better then anything I have seen come out of the USA in years.

An amazing time travel movie about masculinity.
13 March 2022
Every father and son should see this movie together, or alone.

The best of time travel movies mixed with a dash of Star Wars and the meaning and purpose of being a boy, man and father in one amazingly captivating, humorus, sci-fi movie. Just what the world needs in age of anti-male, missing father U. S. culture.

What a sequel should be
5 January 2022
As good as the 1984 classic, maybe even better in someways, its a very different story up until the last 25 minutes.

I was afraid Ghost Busters: After Life might be an epic fail like the previous gender swapped "Ghost Busters" retelling sequel, but I was happily wrong.

Great cinematography and a story that makes this a classic unto itself.

In reminded me of at times of the story telling and cinematography styles that made movies like October Sky 1999, Independence Day 1996, Spare Parts 2015 enjoyable.

I was also pleased in the way this story manages to tie into the original Ghost Busters, despite actor Harold Ramis, aka Egon Spengler having passed away in 2014.

Flavorless Bubblegum
28 December 2021
As a filmmaker and avid fan of the original three Matrix movies by the Wachowski siblings, The Matrix Resurrections (2021) is honestly everything I suspected it might be. Flavorless.

A Matrix lacking the zest, powerful imagery, passion and energy of the original trilogy. The dialogue drab and boring, the acting subpar, and much like 2020 and 2021, pretty much plain disappointing.

One may ask why, go ahead ask! Oh, no! My writing right now sounds like dialogue from this movie...

I suspected Resurrections would probably lack all of the things that made the original Trilogy successful, once I heard only one of the Wachowski's were writing and directing it. To be successful, it really needed to have the creative conflict, tension and challenge that could only happen in a co-writing partnership that the original movies possessed. Challenging each other on ideas, pushing each other to reach further and go farther creatively, that is what the first three movies had in their story and directing that this new release lacks.

In filmmaking, the theory goes, the first fifteen minutes of a movie and the last fifteen, are what makes or breaks a movie, and Resurrections doesn't have the magic. The first fifteen minutes are full of rushed, drab dialogue that fails to pull the audience into the story. If the two Wachowski siblings had wrote it together, I imagine it would have been more thoroughly weaved together in a thoughtful way. Instead, the story pace is off.

Instead of developing the Character backstories for this new sequel, which introduces new characters, replacement characters; Resurrections uses clips from the original movies in mundane and non-creative ways to attempt to fill in the history.

The "bump points", are really flat. Bump points are places within a script created to move the story forward, help increase the rising tension and conflict, and ultimately push the final resolution of the story.

The Matrix Resurrections (2021) feels very pieced together, instead of having fluidity. Reminds me of The Adjustment Bureau (2011). In the The Adjustment Bureau you have Matt Damon being chased continuously through a series of "backdoors". I imagine the The Adjustment Bureau doors concept stemmed at least in part from the original Matrix movie, it worked pretty well for the The Adjustment Bureau, and the original Matrix series, but in this new Matrix movie, it just feels like a messy method to pull along the story, without really developing anything new or original.

The new unrelated characters reusing lines from the past sequels characters feels forced. It was probably an attempt to try to make those watching the movie feel a bit, "De Ja Vu", but it didn't work as intended. The dialogue is often rushed and unauthentic.

I took a short break while writing this review to summarize my thoughts, it dawned on me that The Matrix Resurrections (2021) felt very much like a movie project I was involved with in 2013. At the time I was working on Aurora's pilot. A pilot film to movies is what a demo is to music. You create a pilot of a movie to help sell the idea of the feature movie you want to make. It is essentially a short story covering key aspects of the movie plot. Pilots are generally low budget, using less experienced cast and crews. That is what The Matrix Resurrections (2021) feels like. It feels like a pilot that would be made before even the first Matrix would be authorized for production.

The Remaining (I) (2014)
6/10
Cloverfield meets Left Behind
14 December 2021
Ever wonder what you would get if you took the movies, Cloverfield, Blair Witch Project and combined them with the Left Behind series of movies? No need to wonder, just watch The Remaining.

The Remaining from a film makers perspective has much to enjoy. From a Faith Based movie reviewer perspective, it just depends on whether you are watching a movie for entertainment value or to be religiously inspired.

In most movies of its genre within the Faith Based movie spectrum, you have several things occur in the typical end times rapture movies. 1. You have the actual event of the rapture when Jesus the Messiah picks up all his followers, causing them to vanish from earth. 2. You have chain reaction of chaos and devastation as fear grips the world, uncertain of where the taken have gone, and encountering the impact of planes, buses, cars, power plants, etc. Imploding due to those operating them going missing. 3. You have an unfolding of the tribulation period of events which included supernatural and globally impacting natural occurring events leading ultimately to the introduction of the Antichrist who reestablishes a form of peace and safety.

The Remaining does similar, but with a totally different interpretation of events and pulling out of later bible prophecy chapters in a way no one has told this story before.

If you are looking for a traditional evangelical presentation of the Rapture, this isn't it. The Remaining takes a lot of "artistic license" in the retelling of this story and the normal progression steps I mentioned.

From a genre point of view, this movie reminded me at times of the movie Cloverfield, in which a group of friends living a normal life encounter an unnatural disaster and depend on each other to survive. In Cloverfield, it's a massive mutant alien monster, in The Remaining, its something more sinister.

As a reviewer, I've watched every "rapture" and "end time", movie I've come across, beginning with the 1970's Left Behind series that once upon a time, caused a major stir within many churches across America. Though The Remaining, takes a lot of artistic license with this story, meaning it doesn't exactly follow the path that similar movies based on this idea have taken, it is absolutely the best I've seen from a cinematic perspective.

It's a dark movie, lots of devastation, doom, gloom, I suppose many would go as far to call it a horror movie for many reasons. But what I found most intriguing is the parts of the Rapture and End times parts of the bible that it's writers chose to incorporate, and their interpretation of them.

If you have no concept of the Rapture and end time events in the bible, then this movie is going to leave you very confused when you try to discuss it with what the majority of evangelical pastors have been teaching. You may also want to avoid this movie, if dramatic events, devastation, horrific creatures bother you.

You may enjoy watching this movie on a rainy day or summer night with your girl friend or spouse for the kind of snuggle up hand squeezing moments that a movie like this can induce.

I gave this movie 6 IMDB stars out of a possible 10, because there are aspects of this movie that I really like as a filmmaker, though as a Faith Based movie reviewer I equally disliked some of the artistic interpretations its writers have taken.

Language wise, there is very little offensive language, no nudity, no sexual content. The lighting is exceptional, the story pulls you along pretty easily, the rising conflict and resolution works very well.

From a film makers perspective I think the only thing I didn't like was an abrupt ending. It's difficult to know if its ending was abrupt in case they want to write a sequel, which many of this genre of faith based movies for this subject matter tend to do, or if the writers simply couldn't think of a better way to end it.

I placed this movie on my "Pretty Good Movies" list on IMDB, which is a list of movies I can recommend to eventually watch, but didn't make the best movies list.

Dune Drifter (2020)
5/10
I liked it (I include a few little spoilers)
7 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Dune Drifter is a pretty good space movie. Reminded me of the first short film I produced. They even used the same alien costuming I used with the black outfits and the gas masks.

One of the funny things about this movie, is during a wide shot of the protagonist crawling along the ground, two cars passing by in the distance are unintentionally filmed in the scene. Who would of guessed they'd have cars on other planets.

The alien volcanic planet with a toxic atmosphere that the movie ultimately plays out on, had a river flowing in it, weeds growing, and a sky with clouds. One would assume that a planet with lots of water, vegetation and clouds would have a breathable atmosphere. Interestingly, the protagonist never decides to explorer or check on whether the river contains water. Why wouldn't checking the river to see if its fluid is water, be a top priority?

The aliens, reminded me of the putty creatures in the Power Rangers t.v. series.

Other things that stand out are the compatibility of the ship parts despite being completely different kinds of ships, designed by two entirely different species, from different worlds. Yet the protagonist walks right up to this foreign ship, knows where to look and finds a needed part to repair her ship.

It almost feels like a major connecting scene was left out between the time it takes the protagonist to walk to and return from the alien antagonists ship. Before leaving the co-pilots body is intact. Upon return the co-pilots head is shown melted, without any reference or explanation.

Something that seemed highly unbelievable is how the alien weapons were unable to penetrate their alien uniforms, yet a stray shot was able to destroy their ship.

My favorite part of the movie is when the protagonist presses a adrenaline button on their suit and becomes super badass. If the writers had implemented more of these kinds of action moments into the movie, it would have been a much better movie. This particular scene was truly epic and the highlight of the movie.

I gave this movie a 5 Star Rating because the effects were well done, the story overall is compelling and kept me interested, it challenged me to put myself in some of those situations and wonder how I might react or handle them, and it has at least one epic scene.

It's worth a watch if you like space movies and it comes up on your favorite video service.

Brilliant Dystopia Movie
18 August 2020
This is a genuinely brilliant movie, excellent story and concept right up there with Inception. Very well done cinematography. It has a slow but steady pace through out the movie, that some viewers will probably not enjoy, and the ending is rather lack luster, and could have been written better. In film production, the ethos is, the beginning of a movie and the end of the movie are what people remember most and make or break a movie, and for that reason, with the weak ending, it's understandable that many viewers only gave it six stars on IMDB. Ultimately, however this movie is right up there at the top and for that reason, I gave it 8 stars.

Without giving away the story, this is one of those movies, you're not entirely sure where it is going. A definite must watch for anyone who loves futuristic dystopia movies. The inner darkness of Robin Williams benefited him in this role.

100% Recommended if you haven't watch it before.

Almost There
5 May 2020
Sonic the hedgehog was on par with most movies made for kids, or Saturday morning TV. The weakness of this movie involved the aspects of the story involving live actors, the cast selection and their resulting acting was just average, those parts of the story were generally boring, even though they were used as bump points to advance the story. Jim Carrey pulled off another lack-luster performance. I was really hoping for a Carrey comeback, but this isn't it, he's just not that funny or interesting anymore. He should probably stick to acting in depressing movies, he seems pretty good at those. I gave Sonic The Hedgehog an IMDB rating of 5 stars. This movie probably should of been done completely in CGI animation, because Sonic the character was really enjoyable, unfortunately his live acting cast were not. I'd like to see more of this Sonic, either with a better chosen cast, or just our 100% computer animation. I'm generally not a fan of cgi movies, but the Sonic character and voice actor work really well together. It's now on my "pretty good movies" list, which are movies that were just above my "stinky baby farts" list.

Star Trek: Short Treks (2018–2020)

Eghad!

Worse than Star Trek Discovery, which is an amazingly difficult challenge to pull off. The only good thing I can say is they are short. These projects should never have of happened, and certainly not under the family name of the Star Trek Legacy. I've seen better independent "Star Trek Shorts", but for a series of authorized shorts under the Star Trek license, these are grossly appalling. I will go as far to say, that I have seen better stories and production pulled off by students in community college film schools, and that is exactly what these shorts remind me of, high budget but poor quality student short films.
