Cha-cha-chá (1998)
a farsical comedy à la cyrano de bergerac
I see the average rating of this movie is 6.2 out of 10. I think that's a little low, personally, because this is meant to be a sexy comedy movie, and it does foot that bill, most definitely. It's simply hilarious, and even i'm not a Spanish native speaker, but i was able to understand sufficiently to find great amusement all the way through. I watched the first time without the subtitles and the second time with. it's a hilarious movie, even if you have to suspend your disbelief at times. just have fun with it. and the protagonist looks like Jessica Biel??? :) just note: this movie is from prior to the DVD era, so it may contain embedded subtitles. my copy did, i had to put up a paper in front of the screen to block them. it does work lol.
Arregui, la noticia del día (2001)
i can't recommend it.
the jokes in this comedy are mostly of a subtle nature. if you have trouble understanding Argentinian accents, you might not understand them. the movie is kind of a downer really because up until the end the guy thinks he has aids. and he's worrying how is he gonna tell his family, what's he gonna do now he's dying, how long will he live? i mean i don't think it's a great comedy personally. i watched it twice. i liked it better the second time when i put the subtitles and the tiniest nuances of humor came through despite the Argentinian accents, and the second time i knew he actually didn't have aids. so i could enjoy it more. but i mean how can you enjoy a movie where the guy is worrying about having aids the whole time? it was interesting but kinda too dramatic and depressing to be a comedy.
Bewitched: Turn on the Old Charm (1970)
Awesome episode
I found this episode positively enchanting. During the run of the episodes, as Durwood refuses to be civil to Endora, she retaliates frequently, and violently and in this particular episode, Samantha suggests that Darrin could carry an amulet that would make Endora treat him as sweetly as possible. of course he refuses at first, but then he later decides he had better use it. So he does. and Endora becomes a grovelling puppy dog at his feet. While I hate Darwin and I always adore when Endora sticks it to him in some way or other, this was great too because it's such a drastic change. she even refers to him by his real name. Then when he gets caught without the amulet, it's hilarious. This amulet belongs to Samantha's father and he uses it on Endora when she is making life tough for him. I just pondered how when Maurice enters a room, people seem to play up to him like he's someone great. And I don't find him that impressive. Especially Endora, oftentimes will gaze upon him as if he were something really special. Now I can't be sure, but it occurs to me that maybe all this time when she acted so sweetly to Maurice, she was under the influence of that amulet...
Xena: Warrior Princess: The Xena Scrolls (1997)
content review episode
I dislike content review episodes in general. This one was perhaps somewhat better crafted than the rest. It takes place in the 1940s with the actors who play Xena, Gabrielle and Juxxeur playing their future descents, who incidentally look exactly like them. It is simply review of previous episodes. but the highlight for me is Gabrielle is dressed up to look like a female Indiana Jones. it's the cutest thing I've ever seen, i would watch it again just for that! Of course this episode while being a review episode, has its own plot, which i wouldn't ordinarily review for you, hence I might spoil it. but as I need 10 lines to submit this... I'll review it anyway. the descendants are looking for the "Xena scrolls" which, it must be Gabrielle's writings of Xena's many adventures. The descendants all meet together and join in the effort to find the scrolls, while some bandits almost beat them to it. Through combined effort of many forces, a tomb is opened that contains the scrolls, plus Xena's chakram. The chakram was disassembled, but once put back together, Ares, god of war, who was entombed is then freed. Xena possesses the body of her descendants and does battle with Ares. She manages to trap ares in the tomb and then she goes away and the 3 descendants rush out of the castle.
