Anne (2017)
Fall in love with Avonlea
Mindful TV - Nostalgic for AOGG books and 1985 miniseries made me curious to watch. But really loved the realism and authentic details and
stories and characters unique to this adaptation. The series is so well produced, written, performed, designed and I love the soundtrack. AWAE is cinematic & reminds me of more recent movie adaptations of Pride & Prejudice, Jane Eyre - authentic details such as dirty hems, muddy shoes, dirt under fingernails, weathered fabrics. And a majority of the filmmakers are women with actual Native & Trinidadian writers who are treating these storylines with respect and share authentic voices. Also AWAE's world seems so wide - she's outdoors more than in any other adaptation, we see different locations more; it's expansive like her imagination. Most importantly, I love the family of characters that are so well fleshed out here - Marilla, Matthew, Diana and Gilbert especially. There is depth to their backgrounds and motivations in AWAE. In a world filled with so much content and media trying to grab shorter and shorter attention spans, this show is a truly a gem - the diamond in the rough, that stands out and alone with so much heart. It's thoughtful TV for the soul and not just mindless entertainment.
Anne: Great and Sudden Change (2019)
Cinematography and imagery are splendid
In this episode as in pretty much most episodes, the cinematography is amazing. There is a scene that is quite magically captured at night in front of a bonfire. It plays so well to express Gilbert's feelings and how he sees Anne. Loved it. Season 3 is really full of these surprises and developments. Each character gets deeper and deeper. This Season is the best.
Anne: A Dense and Frightful Darkness (2019)
Indigenous Stories need to be told
This was a heartbreaking story about the history of indigenous people having their children forced into residential schools. It was hard to watch but yet so compelling. This show really opens your heart and mind to look at your own biases and blindspots. Loved this episode, however it is hard emotionally to watch as there is no resolution for Ka'kwet and her family.
