The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005)
Too high expectations?
After viewing the film yesterday on DVD, I'm sorry to say that I found it didn't live up to my expectations at all. The atmosphere of the books doesn't come across. The acting of especially Zaphod and Ford are pretty lousy and the jokes don't come over properly. Only the roles of Marvin and Arthur Dent characters are believable. I can't understand why the book has been mutated so much. The film is just much too short to tell the story right and it leaves it viewers confused at the end. This doens't means that it is a bad film. The visual effect are o.k. and some scenes were a bit funny. Can't say however that it had me laughing out like, when I read the book. The book was funny, the film is a bit of a bore.
Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994)
Boring, Boring and even more Boring
I've rented this film some years ago, in the hope to see a funny britsh comedy. After all, the film was hyped to be the romantic comedy of the year.
I somehow managed to watch it completely through (maybe the couple of beers I drank helped me), but neither I could raise a single laugh nor did I find any romantic scene.
Hugh Grant "acted" (as usual) like a warmed-up corpse. Maybe this is what the american audience found so funny, but I found it rather pathetic.
After seeing this boring product, I avoid any film that has Hugh Grant in it, since I'm absolutely sure that he ruins them all with his "presence".
Stuart Little (1999)
Wished that the cat killed 'm
I've managed to endure only half of Stuart Little. This was not only caused by the awful german synchronisation. That the humans in this film found it absolutely normal to adopt a speaking mouse and considered this mouse to be a human being is absolutely unbelievable. When I watched it I could not see why people would want the see a film that is not funny, not charming, full of plotholes and bad acting. The only interesting sub-plot was the cat, who tried to kill the mouse. Unfortunately for us, he didn't succeed.
Warhead (1996)
Good late night fun
I've seen the film last night on German TV and I must say that I liked it. Sure it contains plot holes, where you could drive a tank through (like the silly hacker war), but in general it is great evening entertainment. Fast and action packed, it is like a rollercoaster drive that keeps you glued to the screen every minute. So all I can say is, grab a couple of beers, don't worry about the plot and acting; and just enjoy it.
