Born in Synanon (2023)
Fascinating look at Synanon
I grew up in The South Bay Area of L. A. County. From the time I was 16-18 years old (1969-1971), coming home from surf trips, or going to Santa Monica and Venice Beach I'd see the large building south of the pier with the Synanon sign. It was very mysterious. All I knew then was that it was for drug addicts. Though I followed subsequent news, much was still unclear about it. This doc filled that in. I watched all 4 hours straight through. Very interesting and well worth watching. Great interviews with former Synanon folk, and a compelling story of the filmmaker's journey making this documentary.
Adam-12: Log 103: A Sound Like Thunder (1969)
Some are missing the real entertainment in the episode
There are some heavy terrible reviews for this episode. What I think many are missing is how unintentionally hilarious this episode is. Even as it first aired when I was 17 years old the ridiculous caricatures of the bikers was so over the top that I can remember laughing out loud while watching it. If people could lighten up a little they might find the humor of these "topical" episodes from that era, particularly in the Jack Webb shows. As is often the case, Reed and Malloy are the least interesting characters, with the bikers hamming it up and stealing the scenes. Take another look from a different perspective.
Lisey's Story (2021)
Excellent from start to finish!
Lisey's Story is one of my favorite Stephen King novels and I thoroughly enjoyed the series. Unlike many "reviewers", I did not find this to be slow or boring. The experience I had was very similar to reading the book. I relished getting the time to really know, and care about, the characters so wonderfully portrayed by the excellent cast. I believe this is King's finest screenplay. If someone is looking for an "action" horror show, look somewhere else.
As always, thanks Stephen.
Star Trek: Discovery: The Sanctuary (2020)
Not as bad as others are describing
Certainly not one of the better episodes, but hardly unwatchable. It's of use to note that the overall rating is 5.7. Every version of Star Trek has weak episodes ("Spock's Brain"), and this is no worse than many of those. Give it a try.
