Christina's House (2000)
Very Good For A Direct-To-Video
This film would have probably sucked at theaters. Being that it was a direct-to-video I didn't think it was going to be a good, but I got a real surprise out of it. It's kinda like a cross between "What Lies Beneath" and "Psycho" with a little bit of "I Know What You Did Last Summer". It starts off with this kind of ghost story vibe but then mutates into a psychological thriller. I don't at all consider this film to be a slasher flick, so if you're tired of slasher movies, but love to be scared, this would be you're movie. The best part about it is it keeps you guessing up to the last minute. I mean this is one of those films where anybody could be the killer, and it's jam-packed with powerhouse performances. It could be Christina herself, played by the beautiful Allison Lange, who just seems to be going crazy like her institutionalized mother. It could be her sick and sometimes perverted father played by an age-beaten John Savage. It could be her slacker brother who's just been picked on by her friends one too many times. It could be her insanely jealous boyfriend, Eddie, played by the always intriguing Brendan Fehr. It could be the town sheriff, who is, well, just crazy. Or it could be her handsome carpenter friend, Howie, played by one my favorite direct-to-video stars Brad Rowe of "Body Shots". Get ready for a thriller that's killer.
The Crow: Salvation (2000)
Way Better Than CITY OF ANGELS
I bet you more than anything that if Brandon Lee didn't die, then THE CROW wouldn't be as big of a hit as it is, and people would admit that this is ALMOST as great as the first. Even my father agress this movie is great and is as close as you will get to the original classic with Brandon Lee. I'll admit it; Eric Mabius is kinda wooden, and Kirsten Dunst, despite being so beautiful, is a little annoying at times, and if this film was a theatrical release then it might've sucked. But the film had such a great plot that kept you guessing who the man with the scars was, and I absolutely love the dialogue and the soundtrack. It's a perfect whodunit. A buddy of mine told me he hated because it combined the first CROW with today's slasher flicks such as I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER and SCREAM, and he absolutely hates those movies. I, however, loved those films, so that's probably why I loved this film. So my basic verdict is: If you love THE CROW, I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER, and SCREAM, then you will love THE CROW: SALVATION.
The Wraith (1986)
Good Movie- I'd compare it to "The Crow" and "RoboCop"
This film is a lot like THE CROW only with fast cars. I love the premise of the film. The characters are very good; although, I felt that Charlie Sheen was a bit wasted as the title role of the movie. I wish that we got to see a little more of that shotgun he uses. Nick Cassavetes is great as the villain - in fact, he's so evil that I named a character in one of my stories after his character of Packard Walsh just as a reference to show how evil my character is. The action is good. And the script is well-written with a lot of good and bizarre twists. But what I liked most about this film was the soundtrack. I wish I can find at a used record store or something. I love the song "Hold on Blue Eyes" by LaMarca which plays in the scene where Charlie Sheen and Sherilyn Fenn are making love in the pond. In fact because of that song (and other reasons), I thought that was the best scene in the movie. The only thing that I didn't like about this movie was Sherilyn Fenn's annoying performance. If I was Charlie, I'm not sure if I'd really want to return from the dead for her.
Sliders: Pilot (1995)
A Great Show that went nowhere when it went to Sci-Fi channel
I remember watching this show on its original network and thought that it was so great, I considered it to be my favorite show. But then after the third season, when beloved cast members Sabrina Lloyd and John Rhys-Davies left and then it went to Sci-Fi Channel, it got bad real quick. Then when they got rid of the O'Connell Brothers, that was it for me.
