The Real Jesus of Nazareth (2017)
The Chosen Has Spoiled It
I decided to watch because of the title. Wow, I'm sorry I did! Even if you've never watched the Chosen, you'll see how poorly done this series is. Where the Chosen uses the Bible as it's guide, I'm not sure what this series uses. Im not sure if it's the actor who portrays Jesus or the script writing, but he seems like he has some kind of physical problem. The rest of the cast is not very good. It feels like an unsuccessful attempt at Shakespeare. If you really want to watch a series that is Bible based and more authentic in its portrayals, watch the Chosen. "The Real Jesus of Nazareth" is neither real or authentic in any way.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
Enjoying it, but it needs work
We've been watching all Star Trek series since TOS. This show's storyline is supposed to be roughly 10yrs before Kirk became captain. The original series "Pike" was a much stronger character. Actually, the handful of male characters are too woosified. I am a woman and I certainly want strong female characters, but the men here are wimps. And there are far too many women on the bridge! The "Spock" in this series does not act like a Vulcan. He should be more precise and generally more knowledgeable. The idea of him asking a human woman for advice about his Vulcan fiancée is totally out of character. Even "T'Pring" being upset because Spock prioritized duty over relationship is wrong. I'm sure the writers, directors and producers wanted to present some of the characterization of some current trends, but it is not in line with the Star Trek canon.
Titicut Follies (1967)
Scary but true
I saw this film while in college back in the 1970's and was amazed and disturbed. I think it was banned or hard to find at that time. My professor was able to get a copy. It is difficult to describe this documentary. It was sad, harshly realistic and horrific. This was how inmates/patients were treated, but again, it was the 1960's. They were likely using the same treatment methods since the 1920's. One interesting note, I met one of the patients who was in the film. He had been released and apparently was doing well enough. I'll not identify him because he was well known in his community. He remembered the filming, but did not know that he was famous for it. He has since passed away, but many people remember him fondly. If there can be a bright side to this film, I guess that's it.
