Roseanne (1988–2018)
10/10
The one true show about real family life
6 October 2004
"Roseanne" was the show that actually illustrated real family life. I grew up watching this show because it allowed me to realize that the hard parts in my life didn't mean that I had to be upset. I learned that I could laugh at things, which makes life a lot easier. This show exhibited Roseanne's comedic genius. Everyone knows that she was someone that was hard to work for. But, she also helped to make shows about situations that other shows were afraid to tackle. She wasn't afraid to talk about gay/lesbian relationships, religion, smoking, drinking, pregnancies, death, poverty, etc. What other show did the same? John Goodman, who played the character of Dan, was the perfect partner for the character for Roseanne. In my mind, Dan was like my own father. Dan was funny, caring, and hardworking. Jackie was the kooky sister that added a little spice to the mix. However, my favorite character on this show was Darlene. The continuous sarcasm was perfect for the t.v. family. The rest of the cast (Becky (s), David, Mark, D.J., Fred, Beverly, Leon, etc...) was perfectly casted. Everyone should watch this show. This would be a way that people could see a different lifestyle that some people have to deal with everyday of their lives.

Valerie (1986–1991)
My childhood
17 March 2004
I remember watching this show on Sunday afternoons when I was younger and loving them. It wasn't a philosophical show that takes after something by Shakespeare, but it was fun. A lot of my friends during that time loved it, as well. Sandy Duncan took Valerie Harper's place, and it reminded me of my friend's mother. That was another way it connected with me. It let family be funny, safe, and comfortable, just like other sitcoms. There was nothing wrong with it! It was just fun and simple! Other shows like this were "Family Matters", "Family Ties", "Cosby Show", "Roseanne", etc.. If you watch those shows, then you should find "The Hogan Family", sit back, and enjoy!

Hook (1991)

One of the best of my childhood....
12 July 2003
Robin Williams is probably the best Peter Pan I've seen. Well, at least, a grownup Peter Pan. It's not a usual role for Robin compared to Mrs. Doubtfire or Good Morning Vietnam. He's a workaholic to get away from his family, along with his drinking. Then, his kids are gone and look who tells him that Captain Hook kidnapped his kids. In comes Maggie Smith. She is a wonderful Wendy!! This movie has it's ups and downs, of course. But, Robin's humor along with Dustin Hoffman's performance as Hook and Julia Roberts as Tinkerbell makes this movie a perfect childhood movie that can be watched with the whole family!

Not the best remake from a book
5 May 2003
"Message In a Bottle" by Nicholas Sparks is one of the best books that I have read. It was one of the only ones that have ever made me cry. But, the movie wasn't the best. Although, that's not to say that I didn't enjoy it or get emotional over it. Kevin Costner plays a good role, something different from other movies that he's starred in. Robin Wright Penn isn't the best, but it works. The chemistry, however, between these two makes my toes curl. Watching this movie every now again, gets my heart pounding and feel relaxed at the same time. The scenes that include Paul Newman are good scenes, and he definitely deserves more scenes in this movie. If you are looking for a good romance to watch while relaxing on the weekend, this a good one to rent. Try it out and see if you like it!!
