Nothing happens. Ever.

When writing a script, a book or creating any sort of story-telling medium, every scene MUST have a purpose to further develop the plot, characters, or atmosphere.

The beginning of the movie starts well-enough. The pacing of the movie, atmosphere and the beginning of the plot is set. You fully understand what is happening and have a general idea of what challenges the protagonist might face. However, after about 30 minutes, the movie slows down. A lot.

Each and every scene thereafter is meaningless to the viewer and useless to the film director. Every challenge the characters face is short-term and has nothing to do with the overall story (oh no, I lost my luggage!) It is only until the last 12 MINUTES of the movie, does the story advance albeit very little.

After sitting through the movie for an hour and a half, I was debating on looking for another movie, but I stuck with it. If not for me, then for my readers.

Pass on this movie. It's not science fiction, but more of a B grade movie with great sci-fi visuals. I enjoy slow-paced science fiction (Interstellar, Gravity), but this is not slow-paced. It's no-paced.

It isn't a movie, it's bait.

Warning: Spoilers
Here is the problem with this movie: it plays on nostalgia of parents to make money. It tries to appease extreme feminists by making all powerful protagonists female. It relies on special effects and 'cool' explosions to draw people's interest. In terms of story, there isn't much to it.

The story follows a girl who realizes she has force powers. That's it. No, really that's the entire story of the movie. There is no ending; just a hook to 'stay tuned' for the next movie.

If you haven't seen this new rendition of Star Wars, I'd recommend not watching it seriously. Watch it to make fun of it, that way it'll be a lot more fun to watch.

Great concept, poor execution.

While the film set the atmosphere and sparked interest within the first half-hour, you quickly realize the entire film relies heavily on its spooks to keep viewers interested. These spooks should have developed the story further and given some hint as to where the movie was going. However, the ending was unpredictable and could not be foreseen. There was no foreshadowing; no witty hints as to where the story was going.

The movie is definitely worth a watch on a quiet day but don't come in expecting to be surprised when the movie's revelation unravels itself.

Suspense at its pinnacle

Just like the characters in the grass, you'll be lost and confused at every turn in the movie. Just when you believe you understand the story, another revelation will reveal itself and you'll re-think all events that happened prior.

You may see that I rated this movie 9 stars; why did I deduct 1 star? The acting was amazing and believable, the plot was original and the atmosphere was just right. I deducted 1 star because the characters were, at times, annoying.

Just like any horror movie, you'll find yourself yelling 'Don't do that!' to the characters on the screen while they do something illogical. There are very few horror movies that can pull off a competent character in a confusing situation and this was not one of them.

The ending was satisfying and you'll find, as the story progresses, that you'll constantly be asking questions. This is a good thing!
