Worse than I remember
20 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I gave this movie a 2nd viewing recently and oh my God it's horrible. What a rambling disconnected mess. This is a B MOVIE with some A list actors like John Tutorro and Leonard Nimoy but the script is just horrible. It's so bad that I can't tell if the directing is any good. The only part that was even remotely entertaining is Sam struggling with the Decepticon watch/spybot. I remember liking Armageddon but I'm literally loathe to rewatch it for fear of this same 2nd-viewing disappointment. How did Bay manage to make so many of these boneheaded movies??

The Incredible Hulk (1978–1982)
10/10
Loved as a child and as an adult
11 August 2019
I grew up watching the 1978 TV live action version of The Hulk. I was 6 years old when the pilot first aired and knew nothing of the comics. At that age I was nowhere near old enough to understand much of anything in a drama such as this besides, "The Hulk is strong, the Hulk is a hero, the Hulk is misunderstood and the reporter is a jerk!" But the plots, with clearly defined villains and victims for our anti-hero to play off of were still entertaining, I also had my parents there to explain some things. Now that I'm older, I can appreciate the production value and the dedication Bill Bixby was known for throughout his career. The acting is solid as well. I also noticed the employment of Slow-Motion to the same great effect, creating weight and power in super-human acts as in The Six Million Dollar Man.

And the soundtrack is excellent...hearing it again as an adult, the themes just popped out at me immediately: Banner's tragedy theme most often played on piano and in full orchestration during big action sequences. And the love theme heard in the pilot but understandably less frequently throughout the series due to Banner's circumstance. The reporter's sneaky six-note theme sometimes only played rhythmically on hi-hat cymbals. But the Hulk's theme (also used for tense scenes) really stands out...wow, the repeating descending string or horn pattern over and over accentuates clearly some bad stuff is going down.

Four decades later, I still find the show entertaining. And for everyone who complains about how it's not like the comics (which I also came to love as an adolescent)...I'd direct them to Hollywood's several less-than-successful attempts to recreate the comics on the big screen over the years. Perhaps the comics just don't translate well to live action.

Supernatural: Peace of Mind (2019)
Season 14, Episode 15
6/10
Ok, what's going on???
15 March 2019
Ever since the break, these last two episodes are just weird...as in not good. Has there been a switch in writers/directors or something? The dialogue is just insanely bland and it just doesn't feel like Supernatural. Dean Cast and Sam just aren't themselves. The talk between Donatello and Jack is just so flat, it literally put me to sleep. What's going on???

Home (II) (2015)
6/10
The movie is a 6/10 at best. IMDb is infested by phony reviewers.
22 May 2015
This is less of a review of the movie Home than it is a review of what IMDb has become...infested by fake reviews from fake movie makers. But hey, we are talking about the movie industry here...why would anyone involved actually be "real" right? Home is exactly what the less-than- 7 reviews say it is. IMDb still has it's uses but it's rating/review section is virtually useless now.

Some movies entertain both the children and the adults...this one will entertain ONLY the children. The plot is predictable the acting is OK, the animation is excellent, soft and candy-like...etc. But unfortunately, it's not very funny at all. Steve Martin's talent is wasted on the character Captain Smek, Rihanna's character is straight serious and Jim Parsons' voice, while inherently funny, simply isn't enough to pull off the very unfunny jokes. The kids might laugh at the Saturday Morning slapstick but that's about it.

There is simply no way that any of these glowing 10-star reviews can be genuine. It's shameful...I'm not sure how much longer I'll be coming to IMDb.

Chappie (2015)
3/10
These 7-10 star reviews are as fictional/unbelievable as the movie.
14 May 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I can't believe all these 7-10 star reviews! Do they work for Blomkamp or something? Chappie started off pretty good. But it didn't take long for it to fall apart. Plot holes, disbelievable characters, and illogical decisions made by those characters abound. There are just too many to forgive.

  • The gang's behavior is completely irrational...even for mindless thugs. They let Deon come and go to and from their hideout more than once when he could've easily ratted them out, especially if he'd been busted by his company. They just leaves Chappie alone in an unknown part of town to "toughen him up." In a logical world, he'd have wandered off, been picked up by authorities, Deon, or the company. And they'd have lost their great advantage in their upcoming "heist". No one's that stupid. For most of the movie, Daddy's character is a desperate souless, self-centered, mindless thug. But at the end, he's portrayed as a selfless loving, sensitive hero. So he's one of the good guys now??? Give me a break...

  • This all-powerful Guard Key - I get that Deon couldn't retrieve it when Chappie was first activated, but he came back and could EASILY have retrieved it then. Also, if it's so one-of-a-kind, vital-to-company- operations and all-powerful, how on Earth is it not missed and under better guard???

  • The riotous behavior of the public after the robots go down is totally unrealistic. Does Blomkamp want us to believe that without the police keeping us all in line, we human beings are nothing but a bunch of maniacs?

  • And what's with Jackman (I don't remember his uninteresting character's name) and Daddy's characters making the sign of the cross before going into battle? Give me a break...

  • Chappie is 100% uneducated. He believes that knife stabbings only induces sleep, he's only read one children's book. But somehow he has the technical expertise to operate, interface and use a neural helmet to upload a consciousness into computer hardware...which, I must ask, arrived at the gang's hideout HOW??? Give me yet another break.

  • But the worst thing about this movie is that none of the characters are very likable, most of them not in the slightest. Even the "good guys", Chappie and Deon, are so inconsistent and disbelievable that it's difficult to root for them.

The list goes on and on. This movie is terrible. How did the same guy who made District 9 make this jumbled disaster? 3 stars for the action scenes and FX. If you want to see a MUCH better movie about the problems, questions, risks and mysteries of humanity and Artificial Intelligence, check out Ex Machina.

Am I missing something?
23 May 2010
OK, am I missing something here?

Jason returns to take back his kingdom from the man who murdered his father, but he doesn't even know what that man (the current KING of the land) looks like?

Jason rescues a man in the river, camps with him and his soldiers and just starts babbling on about his plans to overthrow the kingdom. Ummm...these are soldiers with their commander. How does he know whether they're loyal to the king or not? Pretty big gamble.

Jason spends enough time in this land to build a ship and recruit a crew but NEVER in that entire time does he put 2 and 2 together that the guy he helped in the water is actually the guy he wants to overthrow...he never discovers what the king LOOKS LIKE?

Jason sails with this crew, along with the king's son the prince, but none of the crew mention to Jason that this guy is the prince???

WHAT THE...????

Everyone, myself included, complains today about how so many of today's blockbusters are all special effects and no plot. But it seems to me that the exact same can be said about this movie as well.

I'm scratching my head over here...
