The Movies That Made Us: Jurassic Park (2021)
Good insight, but not even a mention of John Williams?
This documentary focused primarily on the groundbreaking CGI work, which is fine. But to not even mention John Williams, whose score is just as iconic as any other aspect of the film, is criminal.
Devs (2020)
Terrible lead performance makes it nearly unwatchable
I'm a big fan of Alex Garland's work and I had high hopes for Devs. It started off promisingly - the set design, cinematography, and premise were all fantastic. Unfortunately, two things ruin in: the glacial pace and one of the worst lead acting performances I've ever seen. The actress who plays Lily is absolutely terrible. Her monotonous dialog is grating and makes the show hard to get through. All the other performances are fine.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2013)
Stopped watching because of Skye
The show's plot is fine. Nothing spectacular, but fine. The cast of the show is what makes or breaks it, and in this case, one character singlehandedly breaks it. Skye, the hot computer hacker chick Ωwho's always on her phone—who's only there for teenage girls to relate to or for teenage boys to fantasize over—sucks the life out of an otherwise decent cast of characters. Coulson is great, Fitz & Simmons are charming, Ward gives off a poor-man's Superman vibe, and May is solid. The Avengers tie-ins are few and far between. When they are made, they usually seem half-baked and only there for brand recognition. Anyway, if Skye eventually gets written out of the script, I may start watching again.
