Studio One: The Play of the Nativity of the Child Jesus (1952)
A different perspective
Honestly I don't think I'll give anything away that anyone in the free world doesn't already know about this movie or this story, but the Nativity is about the story of Jesus Christ's birth.
So many movies that are made around the Bible focus on the ten commandments or Jesus' sermon's, or his crucifixion. However this is a rare perspective on his birth, those who came to honor him, the three wise men of course, and the governor that wanted him killed hearing that "the messiah" was born.
The movie I think holds some good drama, but it isn't overly attaching, meaning that you can't really dive into this or it doesn't keep you hooked. It's just an over dramatization of his birth. Which I'm not saying isn't a good thing by any means, but it's not the most exciting or interesting parts of the bible, and we all know that even though they try to kill him as a baby, he doesn't die because he goes on to help other people and live until he's 30 or 33 or so.
I don't know, in the end as I said, good dramatics, a decent script that tells the story well, to me personally it's just not that exciting of a story.
Too Many Women (1942)
Confusing
Alright I hit possible spoilers but the plot summary itself gives the entire story away. I found the movie confusing being in black and white it's hard to tell who is who. Aside from noticing the difference between a blonde and a brunette its hard to figure out who is who in the movie.
The main point behind the movie is "a small lie can snowball into a big problem". Usually too many women isn't a bad thing for men in our current society but things were different back then for sure.
The movie isn't terrible but it isn't good either. It all leads up to a classic crescendo, and it has a typical ending. There is just too much lying throughout the movie that it's hard to follow and even if you follow it, your annoyed by it. Thinking that continued deception will help the problem is ridiculous. I suppose it teaches a good moral but no young children will watch this and pick up on it.
Blazing Frontier (1943)
Decent but not there best work.
Overall I didn't think it was too bad, but it didn't seem to have that piece of their typical episodes that kept me interested for that long. Different is good of course, and it's good for the movies they did, but I liked some of there other movies better.
Billy the Kid is always the good guy by the way, unlike the newer Young Gun movies of the 90s where he is portrayed as an anti-hero. Most of the time in all his movies the Sheriff is after him but always Billy is wrongly accused.
I think I like some of the camera work in this the best, showing some different riding scenes for once, but also using a lot of what looks like the same riding scenes in each movie. Fuzzy plays his typical role of the sort of clueless sidekick with Billy calling the shots. But Fuzzy makes up for this with some comic work.
Not a bad movie, but not one of there best.
