Mohanagar (2021)
a perfect show with a superb ending of season 1
I know its only June, but this has to be one of best shows from Bangladesh in 2021. Hats off to the creator Ashfaque Nipun. Top work from the Mosharrof Karim, one of his very best works. This show is a perfect blend of crime, drama, suspense and thriller. Top notch acting from everyone that has to be said, great casting, perfect direction and background score. Initial pace was a bit slow but when it picked the pace then it was simply too good.
Keep up the good work and a very big thumb up for the team!
Madha (2020)
I want to see the inside of the brain of people who rated this 10/10!
Credit to the director for trying to confuse audience from the very beginning .. That this could be something really good!! Don't know how people rate this 10/10 or even over 5/10. Average ratings tells you the real story. Do not waste time with this.
Dia (2020)
It will be felt as if a thousand men stabbed you all over!
What an absolute heart pounding story of heart break..kudos to the director for writing something sad of this magnitude! At times you will feel good watching the film, its not just about love, heart break..it celebrates friendship, celebrates relationship between mother and son.
Excellent direction, heart touching acting from all the lead actors. Awesome cinematography and screenplay. Background score was so good you will just fall in love with it again and again. But don't think anyone can watch it more than once :(
DO NOT MISS IT, ITS THE KANNDA DRAMA OF THE YEAR....I KNOW, ITS ONLY MARCH NOW!
Zero (2018)
what an absolute blunder!!
OMG!! what was that!! I wonder how on earth Anand L Rai made this film and SRK after Harry-Sejal debacle signed this and oh produced this as well from Red Chilies!!! O God O dear God!!!
In all fairness, any sensible human being should sprint away from this project just after reading the script or even hearing the idea of it! what a waste.
Out of my "sheer" love and fondness of SRK i haved rated it 2 stars. What was Mr Anand thinking? That with SRK in it, he can just get away with anything? You are wrong man, even with the kind of stardom SRK has, this movie is too casual and worthless for even indian cinema lovers. What a waste.
Westworld (2016)
Breathtakingly good and hooked!
The show sets in the near future, an extremely realistic amusement theme park which is inhabited with lifelike androids that are virtually impossible to differentiate from human beings. The idea itself is simply breathtaking, though its borrowed from Michael Crichton's original Westworld (1973) . Excellent acting and the soundtrack by GOT-man Ramin Djawadi perfectly matched to the intriguing events. TV show simply doesn't get any better than this. I've never been really a fan of westerns but this sci-fiction/western combo is a whole new genre itself. Like always HBO delivers in the drama department and they have invested around a hundred million dollars on this and I really hope they get there moneys worth because this series deserves it for sure.
Gunday (2014)
dumbness has reached to a whole new level!
its not a matter of shame if you do not know history properly, but its really really dumb when you make a film with your little knowing of the history! especially when it comes to the history of your neighboring country. the war of 1971 happened between Bangladesh and Pakistan, it was Bangladesh's liberation war. the war that started on the 25th of march, 1971 (early hours of the 26th), India joined on December 3rd due to some problems with Pakistan on their border...and the film started with the information that the war was between Pakistan and India! how funny is that!
what really hurt me is that this dumb project was produced by a renowned production house like yashraj films, no research or nothing has been done before deciding to produce this film. this is a display of irresponsibility from their part.
August: Osage County (2013)
"too many cooks spoil the broth" isn't always true!
wow! this is scintillating...intense...and absorbing! "August: Osage County"; based on a powerful play written by Tracy Letts - it won the Pulitzer Prize. And the film is probably going to rock the movie theaters. This film IS NOT for everyone. It's exhausting, it's full of really dreadful people, and its gloomy too. But the acting is so good, the roles are so solid, that you don't wanna miss it.
It's the story of the Weston family: Violet, a drug-addicted cancer patient (Meryl Streep); her husband Beverley, an award-winning poet (Sam Shepard); their three daughters Barbara (Julia Roberts), Ivy (Julianne Nicholson) and Karen (Juliette Lewis); Violet's sister Minnie Fae (Margo Martindale), her husband Charles (Chris Cooper), and their son Little Charles (Benedict Cumberbatch). There is also Barbara's Husband Bill (Ewan McGregor) and Karen's fiancée Steve (Dermot Mulroney). They all gather at the funeral of Beverley, and the story begins.
Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts were so damn good that am already feeling bad for academy award nominees for the best actress and the best supporting actress category! this is probably the best ensemble of the year. "too many cooks spoil the broth" isn't always true!
--"Life is very long..." - TS Eliot. he isn't the first person to say it, certainly not the first person to think it. But he's given credit for it because he bothered to write it down!--
Madras Cafe (2013)
a sensitive story was told in a fantastic way!
undoubtedly one of the better films from bollywood in the recent times. probably the best political thriller in a long time. 'Madras Cafe' is unarguably a film that belongs to a rare genre of Bollywood cinema and it really deserves a little more attention and appreciation than what it's actually receiving.
The film is based on the backdrop of the Sri Lankan civil war in the late 1980's and early 1990's. It crosses its path with the plotting and assassination of the then, Indian Prime Minster, whom we understandably can make out as Late Mr. Rajiv Gandhi. This film is so well crafted; there was no visible loophole in the plot. a sensitive story was told in a fantastic way.
from critical aspect, i thought the film lacked intensity the whole time. the kind of strong story it had, it could have been much much better. and casting was poor to some extent, specially some very lousy acting from some vital characters ruined some critical scenes. thanks to the director for not spoiling it with unnecessary songs!
overall it was okay. comparing with other mindless masala-bolly films, its actually very good! john did his part, nargis fakhri was good. its the director's second film after vicky donor. so far so good.
The Great Gatsby (2013)
An absorbing and captivating story is being told again with a subtle sense of vagueness.
I really don't get the reason behind so many negative reviews of this film. I thought visually this film is incredibly stunning. From grand sets to the detailed period dresses, this film is a treat for the eyes. The direction in this film is impeccable. The cinematography is marvelous and really lets the viewer absorb the sheer artistry that has gone into making this film. Performances are phenomenal by the entire cast. Carey Mulligan's Daisy is every bit as careless as one would expect, but she also manages to show some complexity in her role. Tobey Maguire is a great avatar for us to take on as we enter this film. He is very much the viewer as he sees everything happening, but is eventually helpless to change anything. The true standouts in the film are Joel Edgerton and Leonardo DiCaprio. DiCaprio is probably the only actor of this generation that could play Gatsby, just as Robert Redford could only play Gatsby the previous generation.
Kon-Tiki (2012)
the story of an incredibly stubborn Norwegian Man!
KON-TIKI, the story of an incredibly stubborn Norwegian Man (scientist) Thor Heyerdal, who set out to prove his theory that the Polynesia was discovered by the South Americans (Peruvians). And 1500 years ago, when there were no boats, they traveled 5000 miles through the Pacific Ocean in rafts! He along with 5 other believed in that theory and started that near impossible journey on a balsa wood raft in 1947.
A fantastic film, very very well directed. The film was unlucky, that it had to compete with "Amour" in best foreign language film category in these year's academy awards!
Thor wrote a book about Kon-Tiki. It was translated to over 70 languages and sold over 50 million copies. The documentary about the expedition also named "Kon-Tiki" won an Oscar in 1951.
Dark City (1998)
Truly very decent sci-fi for being made 15 years back!
I would say a very promising film is ruined to some extent by a relatively less believable (I know it's a sci-fi!) ending or should i say less convincing finish. Could have been a lot better film, but still a very good sci-fi film with mystery, fantasy should be added to its genre. That will help people to know what to expect!
Despite saying all these, I am still rating it 8/10, because I liked the plot that much. And the execution was also great except for the climax leading to the end. A much thoughtful finish would have certainly enhanced the film.
Recommending for Sci-Fi Lovers.
Wreck-It Ralph (2012)
An ABSOLUTE Blinder! The finest animated film of the year!
many people might not agree, but 2012 has been a pretty good year for animation. With Paranorman, Pirates! Band of Misfits, Frankenweenie, Hotel Transylvania and Brave (among others), there's been plenty of pleasing films for all ages. And Wreck-It Ralph is simply an awesome creation by Disney, by far one of their greatest works in quite some time, a beauty. I feel sad that I couldn't watch it on 3D. A must watch! Credit should be given to these guys Rich Moore, Phil Johnston and Jim Reardon for coming up with this awesome story and Phil Johnston-Jennifer Lee for screenplay.
Overall a really great movie; Spectacular animation, the bright colors, the set-ups, the environments, the characters all look fantastic, great voice work, emotional and even touching at times, and humorous too.
Academy Award for the Best Animated Feature Film, is written all over it! I wonder how on earth, Golden Globe picked Barve over Wreck-It Ralph
this film simply doesn't have any competition, its way ahead from the other nominees.
Extracted (2012)
Unbelievably good!
What will you feel or do, if are trapped inside someone else's memory for 4 years for a simple mistake??!! And what if that someone is allegedly under arrest for the murder of his own girlfriend! O god, I do not wanna think about that!
Just Wow!! What an amazing film. What a story, what a concept, and unbelievably superb execution. When you start to watch a film like this (avrg IMDb rating 5.9, rottentomatoes doesn't even got a poster for this!), you are bound to think it will be a cheap sci-fi. But goodness me, once you finish this, you will admit, a film cannot be more under-rated than this one. It will keep you on your toes from the beginning to the end. And what an ending, its already is a good film, but the final 10 minutes have made this even more interesting. One of the finest thriller, sci-fi of 2012.
*must see for sci-fi lovers!
Lo imposible (2012)
one word, astounding!
Am speechless
amazed! What an absolute blinder of a film. Film making of the highest order from Juan Antonio Bayona. I feel he was denied a deserving academy award nomination for best director. And film was wrongfully denied a nomination for the best picture. Not only does he pay respect to the countless victims that were lost in the overwhelming tragedy, he makes creative choices and liberties only the most seasoned directors can take. Starring Academy Award Nominee Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor, the film tells the TRUE story about a British-family, living in Japan and was vacationing in Thailand when one of the worst natural disasters of our time separates them.
Some of the scenes of this were simply incredible. I can tell you about one, when 3 brothers finally found each other, I swear that scene sent shivers down my spine! Aaah astounding
In 2011 there were 10 films in the nomination for the best film category, this year there is 9. I believe this one is the missing 10th!
Life of Pi (2012)
Great Film, even Greater Direction!
Mesmerized! This left me speechless. There are few movies that got the power of leaving a lasting impression on you; Life of Pi is most certainly one of those. Not even a single moment is dull, in fact the story is told so beautifully that you never get to realize that the script is so simple! At time it jogged my memory of cast away, at times of avatar to some extent. Saying again, story-wise it wasn't outstanding, but if you talk about Cinematography, Sound Mixing & Editing, Visual Effects and Directing, all of these were pretty much unbelievable. No wonder it got 11 nominations!
And the boy suraj sharma, honestly he did a 'tom hanks' in this film
This movie is definitely an Academy Awards runner for Special Effects, Cinematography and Director of the year.
Talaash (2012)
A thriller film!
If you go 7 years back, aamir khan's latest movie was Mangal Pandey then
after that he did Rang De Basanti-Fanaa-Tare Zameen Paar-Dhobi Ghat-3 Idiots and now this Talaash
apart from Dhobi Ghat this one got the weakest script that aamir worked, in recent times
Talaash was one of the few highly anticipated bolly movies of the year, its an aamir movie! aamir-rani-kareena together for the first time, farhan akter and anurag kashyap was involved with dialogues and story, so expectation level was high
film was not bad, but not great.
It's a thriller film, but the director seemed confused at times about where to emphasize
the story was not strong enough to build the suspense that a better thriller-mystery film requires
overall aamir-kareena-rani all did their best, but am not satisfied...Saying again, its not a bad film, not a great one (like we are used to with Aamir -Films!) either.
Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012)
An epic Love-Story, from the one an only Yash Chopra!
Watched Jab Tak Hain Jaan! Initially planned to wait for it until the arrival of dvdrip, but couldn't resist myself from downloading the film this week! an emotional master-class from one and only yash chopra
finally in a movie Katrina got the chance to act and I felt she was more than okay, Anushka simply rocked and next year she is gonna get all the awards for best supporting actress female, without any doubt! Nothing to say about SRK, he just did it once more what he does best.
Story is a long one and at time some twists and turns will be felt like its way too much cinematic (1 in a 1000 times chance of happening in real life!) but again it's a film. it's a film where the hero is an expert who defuses bombs without wearing the bomb-suit, without any protection! But its not a story of courage, its not a story of miracles, its just a simple story of love
:) Awesome background music, Challa-Saans-Jiya Re these 3 songs were beautifully placed and choreographed
overall a nice film just a bit long
2hrs 55 minutes! but its one of those few bollywood movies that are both critically and financially successful.
