Nailed (2001)
Don't let the low rating throw you.
I was surprised when I saw how low of a rating this movie received here. It starts out kind of slow and bazaar. I loved how the writer portrayed Jeffs family. For once, a realistic view of family dynamics in Hollywood. The main character (Jeff) is utterly naive about raising a family. Jeffs "angel" fiancé turns out to be pretty unstable. Everyone can see the looming disaster, except for Jeff. As a viewer, I felt sympathy for Jeff. He's only trying to do what he feels is right. Buts whats so refreshing in this movie is Jeffs family. They are trying to help Jeff as much as humanly possible, but feel like they have exhausted all their options, yet they never completely give up on him.
I feel its a realistic movie that deals with a situation that happens more often than one might think.
House of 1000 Corpses (2003)
House of 1000 ideas...none of them work.
Rob Zombie seemed to have many ideas for making a horror film. The problem is, he tries to employ them all. Some of the images were hip and stylish, but they are thrown in every ten minutes or so to break up the monotony of the film. The characters weren't very well written, (however Im not sure how well they need to be for a horror film) and the acting was total B level. They should have billed this film another remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. To me the films are awfully close in plots. I was hoping for some new ideas and was disappointed. I think just about anybody could have written this movie. If Rob ventures into another picture, im almost sure it will be better than House of 1000 corpses. It almost looked like Zombie is more interested in imagery rather than plot. Which works sometimes.
Dreamcatcher (2003)
KING'S LOST IT.
I think the only work of Stephen King that I actually enjoyed was The Shining. Apparently, King crammed all the ideas of his previous novels into this steaming pile of dung. We had the "red fungus" which reminded me of the green plant growth from creepshow. The group of friends who all share some trauma as kids, and grow up and meet together every 20 years or so. Remember IT? Telethapy, from The Shining also rings a bell. Ive never seen a movie go in so many directions and end up nowhere, but Dreamcatcher does just that. The biggest thing that I didn't like about this movie was how it was written. They went great lengths to make visual and audible clues to the storyline, that were not needed, not to mention incredibly cheesy. I know books are written a different grade levels. This movie would be like at a 4th grade level. I do have some questions, Why does the alien talk with a poor British accent? If these friends are so telepathic, why would one have to answer a, and Im not making this up, a ringing gun...then talk trough it like it was a telephone!! Morgan Freeman, Jason Lee, and Tom Sizemore, what on earth were you thinking? Boys, I would be firing your agent. Of course this is just my opion...It may be wrong
The Last Dragon (1985)
Yeeeaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh...the sho-gun of Harlem
This movie is just plain awesome. One thing I like about movies from the eighties, is there straight forward approach. Right off the bat you know you are in for a kung-fu comedy. So all you have to do is sit down and enjoy. The characters are kind of odd almost surreal, but very entertaining. Like all good movies there are some great quotable quotes. A must see.
Pure Race (1995)
Give me a break
I cant believe this film was made in 1995. I would have sworn '85. Anyways, I tried to be very forgiving with this film because it was an independent effort. The story is pretty hard to swallow, I actually was laughing out loud. The extreme characterization. The white nerd and the inner city football star black guy with a heart of gold. Of course they are best friends after meeting for the first time in about, oh...four or five hours. Then they run up against some redneck supremacist from Idaho. Who of course run the entire town. I thought this movie was quite a bit older while I was watching it. So I thought "at least the director was exposing some dark aspects of the country." But after learning it was made in 1995, I was appalled. Not to mention the horrible acting. Whoever gave this movie a 10 must of been the directors momma.
Mulholland Dr. (2001)
Gets your wheels a turnin'
This movie will get your wheels a turning, so to speak. However you end up nowhere. After watching this movie I asked myself "ok, what did I just miss?" I'm convinced that this movie is made to entice debate rather than come to any conclusions. Which is fine. However, if you take away the sex scenes. I think far more people would be disapointed with this film. I really would have felt cheated without it. (because we know its coming). I do enjoy a lot of David Lynch's work, but I would like to see an artsy film that actually ties up loose ends, and dare I say, make sense...
Bones (2001)
Horrible horror film, decent comedy
As a horror film I don't think they come any cheesier. The reason I watched the movie was for a good laugh, and it provided just that. Apparently this type of "horror" scares people. They used disgusting ideas and visions to try to get a scare out of you. For me it just made me laugh. However if you want a good laugh check it out, you wont be let down.
Glengarry Glen Ross (1992)
Great acting across the board
Well written characters make this an excellent movie. The acting and casting in the film was perfect. It shows a realistic, but sometimes grim look at the sales world. I think anybody who has been in sales would enjoy this movie.
