Knox Goes Away (2023)
Interesting Plot & Good Cast
Maybe this is a bit sad but I judge tv series and movies by how bad my ADD gets. If I'm looking at my phone too much, I'm not interested.
However, this film kept me interested the entire time. It moved at a good pace, had a good amount of action and had some talented actors that did well.
I'm sure some people will state that it was"predictable" as they always do but I think the film deviated enough to keep us interested and guessing what was going to happen next.
The casting was excellent. The only predictable character was the lead detective. Although she checked the box for a strong, independent and quick witted, she did miss.
God & Country (2024)
Religiophobia
I watched this film today and struggling to understand what the point was other than to attempt to paint one of the many US religions as a threat. If I had made a film about how Judaism or Islam is a threat to the US, I would be appropriately scolded. Hollywood is only furthering the divide of this country with this film
I enjoy a good documentary that is fact based, non political and unbiased. However, this film feels to paint a picture that attacks a religious group on certain values. Good documentaries that I have seen before will support both sides of a subjective topic. This film fails to accomplish that.
Can we please stop making extremely polarizing films, films with agendas and just focus on quality?
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
An actual fair and balanced review
I sometimes think that people only give out 1's or 10's for reviews. Giving this a ten and calling it "the best movie ever" or giving it a 1 and describing it as a "waste of time" is not a rational review.
I give this a 7 out of 10 for a few reasons. Let's start with
The good stuff....
The animation is very realistic from the shadowing on windows to the integration of Donald Glover's real face, I realized quickly that we've come a long was since the "who framed roger rabbit days"
The balance of comedy and entertainment is not an easy line to tread these days. This film displays relatable and likable characters to an audience of all ages.
The movie is creative and although it's not an original concept, the multiverse jumping is still fresh and interesting.
The bad stuff....
The story dragged. For an ending with a massive cliff hanger, it feels like the story building could have been reduced by a lot.
The lack of diversity. Hollywood's ironic definition of diversity is the misrepresentation of white men. Apparently the spider-verse that started with Peter Parker (a white guy) is now represented by a teen white girl, a black pregnant lady on a motorcycle, two Spanish guys, Ziggy Marley and an Indian guy with no white men.
Rampage (2018)
1's and 10's, are you serious?
For the reviewers giving 1's and 10's you do understand that there are 8 possible other choices, right? I don't understand how you justify your logic. Have you seen Sharknado,The Room and Meet Dave?
Rampage was best decibed on here as a "popcorn flick". Sure it was cheesy and had some less than realistic scenes but it wasn't terrible. It didn't have any shark falling from the sky like scenes. Scenes that defy all logic.
Anyway, Rampage was a decent movie. Call it like it is. Stop with the ones and tens.
Logan (2017)
Tough Crowd
As I read through the reviews I see a lot of polarity but very few 5's. My guess is the die hards are calling out the inconsistencies and newbies enjoyed the movie at face value. As a rookie to the franchise I realized fast that I should have probably not started with Logan but whatever,I did. Logan had appeal almost immediately. I was shocked at how fast the 135 minutes went by. The action, sound effects and lack of Michael Bay'ism was fantastic. (Michael Bay'ism = fast screen switch with explosive and incomprehensible scenes) I understand there are holes in every story that is stretched across a franchise. The most glaring one to me is that if there is a special bullet that can kill the Wolverine and his new daughter then why on earth is the military not using them?? IDK maybe this is explained in previous episode(s) but even if it is, I don't see why the good guys and the bad guys have a combination of one deadly mutant bullet between them. The acting was really good. I didn't realize how good Hugh Jackman can sell the tough guy role. I also didn't know that I could ever take Stephen Merchant seriously. Some of the kids could have used some lessons but hey they still did 1000 times better than I could ever do. Finally, for the people saying it is the "worst movie ever" just please shut it. Go out and get laid because Logan is an above average movie. I wouldn't call it very innovative but it is executed very well and it keeps you watching . So go see it but leave the kids at home.
Criminal (2016)
Impressive cast, interesting story, good ending...
Cast gets an A+.. Wonder Woman, Deadpool, commissioner Gordon, Robin Hood, Agent K and the bad guy from Bad Boys 2.
Story get B..Yes, the story has been told before but what movie theme hasn't by now? Creative hacking introduces new way to kill the bad guy. Would like to have see Costner have a final act of heroism since he had some very evil moves. I suspect they left him alive with thought of a sequel.
Finally - It's nice to see action scenes without Michael Bay'ism (unnecessarily explosions and incoherent/fast screen flips). I would recommend watching!
Chappie (2015)
For people giving this 10 of 10 stars.
Do you know there are numbers before 10?
1) This movie came out in 1986 only it was better then. I believe instead of 22 (or Chappie) the robot was number #5 and named Johnny.
2) As of late people are giving movies exceptional grades for movies with exceptional graphics and terrible plots (cough cough Gravity). Seriously though, a south African gangster robot, that wears chains? A master mind mother that turns out to have a heart of gold? A dad that drops him off for death eventually decides to die for a robot that has 5 days to live?
3) Why would a robot hook up to a human neurology machine with same results? Wouldn't it be much more logical if he used a USB device? I mean after all a he dent have a brain.
Im not saying this movie was awful but I'm also not saying this is another "A few good men" . Just being realistic with my grading.
