Shoreditch (2003)
two good reviews on here...
10 January 2007
I haven't seen this film, but curiosity has gotten the better of me. I used to like the concept of "Goodnight Sweetheart", plus I wonder can this film be so bad with an overall score of about 4? It can't be as bad as Revelation. Maybe one of the Sundays tabloids can give it away on DVD?

Its interesting that if you click the names of the users who posted the two positive reviews on here ("this is a very watchable film" and "The performance of Shane Richie was excellent") it shows that "triciacooklin" and "geoffdeane" have not commented on any other films. Would that be because they were involved with this and wanted to give it a bit of a boost? Aw, bless.

a true classic

Warning: Spoilers
I just re-watched this film from an old VHS I recorded off TV back in 1994, and it is as good as I remember. But even now I was hoping the ending would be different and the hero would somehow get the girl - I wish there was an 'alternative ending'!

Although some of the special effects are dated, it doesn't spoil the film which still seems fresh today. And the theme music that constantly pops up throughout the film - from the musical box to the saxophonist in the street, is some of the most touching soundtrack music ever. I would recommend this film to everyone, unfortunately I can't find it for sale on any UK or Chinese websites. There's a few clips on youtube though :)

Brits like it!
6 May 2005
I can't believe all the negative comments, especially earlier in the thread.

Steve Carrol isn't Ricky Gervais - but it doesn't matter - he's hilarious in his own way. It doesn't matter that Dwight isn't the same as Gareth, or Pam isn't dawn - they are all funny & watchable characters in their own right.

The 1st episode Isn't a word for word copy, I watched UK episode 1 recently and although the plot is the same, there are plenty of new jokes in the US version. Each episode is funnier than the last (although Basketball (#5) is a bit too painful at times...) I've seen the 6 episodes with several friends, we're all hoping for a new series.

BBC3 has signed up series 1, I'll be telling everyone I know to watch it.

Best film ever
26 June 2003
I loved this film back in the 80s, and its story of CGI characters to replace real people for TV is easily a possibility now. This is my favourite film ever, infact I only found out today that the its less than an hour long - theres so much going on Id swear it was 90 mins plus.

Anyone who is remotely into Sci Fi or computer graphics should see this, or anyone who just likes unusual films and fancies a break from the norm without being bored.

If this was a Manga cartoon instead of a British film, it would be massive!

Idle Hands (1999)
LIGHTEN UP! and LIGHT UP!
31 March 2003
This film doesnt take itself seriously, so why people are reviewing it as anything other than a bit of fun, who knows... get some mates round, have a smoke, laugh at the comedy bits (there are enough Laugh Out Loud moments), go "eeeew" at the gore, jump at the scary bits... not too over complicated, just a decent film that achieves what it sets out to do. And you dont have to be a teen to enjoy it... Im 30+

better than the reviews suggest
21 December 2002
Id heard a few bad reviews of this, but I wanted to make up my own mind.

For the first 5 minutes you will be impressed by the quality of the CGIs, but after that you forget its all done by computer and get into the action & the story.

The film didnt drag, even though its 2 hours+. I was impressed enough by it to not think Id wasted an evening watching it. (Unlike Donnie Darko....)

not as good as East is East

And not as good as Guru either. And using Beckham in the title was just a cheap publicity gimmick. However it is worth a watch, I just hope my Indian friends parents watch it and realise how they should listen to their kids sometimes!

cholli ke peeche?
7 November 2002
I still havent made it all the way through this film yet - 3 hours of standard Bollywood storyline. I keep having to rewind the dvd to the song Choli Ke Peeche - the song + the dancing is excellent, everyone should see at least that scene and appreciate how well choreographed Indian films can be!

well I was scared
3 November 2002
Id heard comments that this wasnt "that" scary.

If you've ever been to London, the chills will begin when you see Main Guy walking around the deserted streets. So many of the scenes have me shivering now as I remember them, its not just a film that makes you jump a fair amount, but one that leaves you thinking about it for days.
