Charlotte Sometimes (2002)
z-z-z...
This film didn't work at all for me (nor my wife, who fell asleep twice, as did a gentleman about four seats over from us). The acting is passable, but the plot is tedious. There are innumerable idiosyncratic happenings that are never explained/justified. The pacing is ponderous, and none of the characters is sufficiently affecting to demand one's attention.
People seem to either love or hate this one; I tend toward the latter motion.
Far from Heaven (2002)
accurate, but not in the way some seem to have expected
First, I enjoyed this film immensely, particularly Ms. Moore's letter-perfect performance.
I'm not going to provide yet another blow-by-blow interpretation, but would like to make a comment on an element that seems to have escaped a large number of the "reviews" posted here. It seemed to me pretty clear that this film was not intended to be a realistic portrayal of life in the late 50s. It was intended to be an accurate portrayal of the way life was *depicted* in the films of that era.
The overblown color hues and lush music should have been strong clues, but I've seen too many comments that, "I lived in the 50s, and things weren't like that!" No, they weren't, but the *films* were like that. ... Doug
