Gatlopp (2022)
JUMANJI for grownups
I'm not sure why it's classified as horror, unless being forced to face adulthood is your nightmare. This comedy was fantastic! For a lower budget film, the visual quality was great, the actors were perfectly cast, direction did not get in the way of anything, and editing was spot on. As an over the top fantasy, the actors filled out the characters so well that I could believe they were longtime friends going through modern day life with all the tears and anger and laughter that gets thrown at them. The situations get harder to be honest with a the game progresses, just like life. And, just like in life, sometimes game revenge can be sweet.
The Black Phone (2021)
Sorry, Losers Club and Hawkins Gang...
These kids made this film really come to life. Yes, Ethan Hawke is terrifying and so very creepy. But had he been the only one to carry this film, it wouldn't be as fantastic a story. They all made this movie intense and worthwhile.
From Jennifer (2017)
Derek makes this worthwhile
FROM JENNIFER is a low budget comedic romp into madness with a shocking end. I've seen Derek Mears in quite a few big budget productions as a silent evil and a speaking monster with very convincing performances, but *never* have I loved a performance by anyone like I did this. I must admit my least favorite performance was from the biggest name in the film. But poor performances aside throughout, I highly recommend it for those who enjoys Derek's work.
Vegas (2012)
Wow, this show looks like pictures right out of my childhood!
The sets and costuming really made me feel like I was looking at photos from my childhood. And Ralph Lamb had been a personal hero of mine. I look forward to some interesting, if fictionalized stories of the early days when the test site was bombing above ground and most of the Las Vegas Vally was ranch land. I have hopes for this show, providing the writers are as good as the actors they've acquired for it.
If anyone is interested in old Las Vegas and how it was, I also recommend watching DESERT BLOOM with JoBeth Williams and Jon Voigt. The emergency drill scene in this movie made my mom cry because she remembered doing the sane drills growing up here.
