End of All Things (2016)
Can't rate less than 1 star :(
Wow, where do I begin? I had a opportunity to video this off late night TV, and going by only the title it sounded like it might be okay.
How can you go wrong with an 'end of' -situation? Well apparently quite easily .
I could not get the thoughts of a High School video project , out of my head. It was so bad.
I ended up watching in FF & thought I'd play back from a good part/exciting stuff. Sadly this did not happen.
Dragon Day (2013)
Worthy of an MST3K do over
Well I stayed til the end, you know, just to see.
Was not expecting much as I found online over on the YT channel, & was not found to be wanting. While some ideas were well filmed eg: smokey wreckage, sadly to much was left to to few. Acting like it was a school project filmed for credits. Invasion Day/ DD really is a piece of work.
Ai amu a hîrô (2015)
This film has the wow-factor
Right from the start I wish to say I know nothing of the Manga that this was based on, so it is purely a film based review. Poor old Suzuki, the misunderstood artist, who gets looked over on all his work at the Manga office.
On top of that, his girlfriend Tekko, also had had enough of his lack of skills/luck & they seem to fight a lot. She then tosses him out of their flat. There is a re-union (of sorts) later when he goes back to see her & some of the best SFX I have seen by Tekko therein.
A newscaster reads about a person being bitten by a dog, then quickly changes that to a 'dog was bitten by a person' & so the Zombie invasion begins.
These creatures are so quick, unlike other Zombie movies ones & the mad scramble to get out of the city begins.
I think this movie has something for everyone.
Joshîzu (2014)
What a fun movie, that doesn't take itself to seriously.
Right from the early quarry scenes, where the professor is in trouble by the villain of the week, the team Jossys turn up in all their colored outfits, & begin to fight with the seaweed-monster...err.. except one member has not shown up for roll-call :) A delay in the fight is caused, by a quick phone call to the member, only to have an answer to why she was not there & if she will then come, made me actually LOL at home.
Later in the movie when all girls are present, one questions why two of their colors are so very similar. This is funny stuff in a movie.
There are enough Phantoms(villains) to keep it amusing for you, but most are defeated quickly... err.. except maybe the Stinkbug, that required Red Jossy, to go to the supermarket & buy some Febreeze.
Tricky, as they do not fly of course. Stick with it, as I think you might enjoy.
Kimssi pyoryugi (2009)
A Long distance love story
Castaway on the moon is a simple love story, in a round a bout way. I have had this recorded on my DVR since January & only now got to watching it. A man down on his luck decides life is not worth the effort & does something about it.
In what I assumed was then a dream sequence thereafter, I was not sure I knew where this was headed. But no, the man survived his ordeal and briefly tries to escape his island. He proceeds to scavenge items to help him in his new 'paradise'.
Drawing a sign in the sand, he is somewhat surprised later to find his new life has been observed by a shut-in young lady at her apartment.
I would have like more background on the girl's father story, as he was unseen throughout & I could not help think maybe the daughters scars were his doing.
Venturing out of the safety of her home, she then communicates with him, via a series of message-in-bottles.
Both characters has deep troubles within them. He with relationships & her with online bullying. I will finish with the statement, sometimes love stories do not work out (just to make you wonder if you have not watched yet)
Memoirs of a Survivor (1981)
Yawn
Let me preface this by saying it is 2016, I have no knowledge/read the book from which this odd movie comes from.
Latenight TV & I miss the first few moments of the screening, but first thing I see is a magical portal, so I decide to record & view the following morning.
Character 'D', is supplied by an official with a new young girl/person to look after, well, because. Along with her comes her pet, increasing the mouths to feed.
Gangs of youth roam the streets, BBQ ing animals & not doing much else. The magic wall, leads to a room which changes at the whim of the director.
Like Alice in Wonderland, I guess the 2nd reality is supposed to mean something, but this failed on me.
Cave-children are seen once & are there for effect only it seems.
The future might in fact be bleak, but certainly will be more exciting than this movie.
Fatal Honeymoon (2012)
Gold Coast & Sydney are not the GBR
Just watched this movie & as an Australian a few things popped up as I viewed. As the couple head down under for their fateful honeymoon, the opening shot of them frolicking on the sand & sea, is the Gold Coast Queensland. This is approx 1,441 kilometers from the GBR. The following scene sees them in Sydney on a boat complete with view of the famous Sydney harbor Bridge. Tina seen holding Koala later. Sydney is even further away from the Great Barrier Reef @ just under 2,100 kilometers away.
It was not mentioned, why the couple did visit these 2 places before heading North. I guess in the whole scheme of things, it matters the least.
Chik loh dak gung (2002)
Wine Scene
So the girls are quizzed on the vintage of their wines, & of course all get the answers correct... except nobody identified the POISON contained therein ? This was my 1st 'action movie' from HK & I come away feeling pretty good.
Along the way, you could see the differences between this and someone making it say, in the U.S With deaths of main characters along the way, that might not have been filmed.
The 'puppet scene' I found a little disturbing, but I guess being my 1st I didn't know just what to expect. I will watch again. The idea of a collective of very young children stolen & trained for future assassination jobs is a nice idea, but again worrying :)
Monster Ark (2008)
Painfully slow
Look, I know nothing is new in movies anymore.
But to steal..err.. copy.. two(2) direct scenes from Raiders Of The Lost Ark, is inexcusable Possible the director or producer thought just because this movie ALSO had an "Ark" in title is was fair game ? 1/ The wooden Staff scene underground, where the sunlight shone through, was painful to watch, as you could see what was about to happen.
2/ Finally, the end "crate" scene, where Government boxes(Raiders) were swapped for Church ones in the huge warehouse.
The acting by the Major simply made me laugh, as he continued to fire at will.
Not sure what happened to the injured Russell, after his flight to hospital.
