Strike: Lethal White: Part 1 (2020)
what have they done?
Previous episodes were much better than tihis one, I hope it improves. The previous episodes worked well with a tried and tested formula, but this is just messy and corny and unnecessary time jumps and side stories.
Just keep it simple! Crime investigating, whodunit, murder mystery without boring interruptions. Not even sure if this is a 2 or 4 parter, but again the 2 part stories worked well.
I can't beleive you need to write a minimum of 600 words just to write a concise review, but hopefully I can drag it out enough to enable this quick review to submitted. Maybe Strike writers had to do the same.
Superman & Lois: Lies That Bind (2022)
Teen angst......but their not teens!
Awful writing here, are they scripts from some 60's family sitcom? Nobody has emotional issues about withholding information like this. "our relationship is built on a lie" What?! No it's not.
This season has been spiralling into crap and not enough about Superman, about his powers, about his kids learning to appreciate, its all negative nanny. Also while i'm here whats happened to Lois? She is a shadow of the 70's Lois, cocky, sassy and a good reporter with a sense of fun. She's forgotten she's married to one of the most powerful men on the planet.
Dune (2021)
Bland remake
Nothing new here. I expected either a dubbing down or something special but it was neither, almost a replica but without the panache of the now slightly dated original, possibly another Covid casualty.
Faraway Eyes (2020)
Thought provoking 6.75/10
I enjoyed this movie, it posed questions thst made you think and feel in a new way, always a good thing. The writing was a little off, some things didnt tie up and the end seemed a little confused, I would never have guessed it was an indie film, however overal it was well filmed and acted and generally a good watch.
Finding 'Ohana (2021)
Had potential
A slow start, good middle and a long ending ruined by Hawaiian mumbo jumbo, they appear to be getting precious about their heritage (see Magnum PI reboot), old religious beliefs is not a great way to preserve a culture.
The Watch: A Near Vimes Experience (2020)
Absolutely disgusted!
I am utterly shocked after watching the 1st episode, who can possibly have allowed such awful, awful writing, production, casting, actually all of it, its diabolical, if Terry Pratchett does not turn in his grave I certainly will be. What a shame.....
Magnum P.I.: Someone to Watch Over Me (2021)
Sanctimonious
Worst episode to date. Too much goody 2 shoes not enough clever detective work, some out of character lines/responses, which is happening a lot more as this series goes on.
Save Yourselves! (2020)
95% enjoyable
Nice movie, slightly slow in places but a good film. If I was critical I would say the metaphor was too obvious and I would've just preferred a "film" (ie an entertaining story) with an ending and not the writers pushing an idealism, but I got enough out of it.
Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (2020)
Absolutley fantastic!
They don't make many films like this, stunning visuals, Rachel McAdams is great along with an excellent supporting cast.
Flashbacks of a Fool (2008)
nice step back into childhood emotional beginnings and where they get caught up.
Cleverly written step back into how our lives get mixed up and don't get sorted at source so they effect our later lives. The simple truths are realised here, many 30-40 somethings will find many references to their own lives, release those feelings and we can live again. Simple good acting, good story, fantastic music, and very good emotional but simple ride, more of the same please. Daniel Craig plays emotionally pent up, spent up actor well, lovely mid scenes of the way we were in the early seventies. The Roxy Music song played in my head for a week after and i;d never heard it before. A must see for any romantic or any amateur psychologist or spiritualist or anybody living a life with repressed emotions...oh thats everybody then.
