Life on Mars (2008)
Science Fiction show about a Policeman
11/14/08 I like this the show "Life On Mars" It reminds me a little bit of Quantuam Leap actually because it's again about a man trying to get back home. Only instead of bouncing from one time period to another this new series centers around a Police Detective who is trying to get back to 2008 and he is right now seems to be trapped in 1973. Jason Omara stars in this hour long drama as Sam Tyler, a New York city Police Detective who is hit by a car while on a case looking for his Girl Friend (Played By Lisa Bonet) Of the Cosby show What happens next is he wakes up in 1973 wondering why he's there, and how can he get back home. The show also has a gritty tough outlook about Police work Such as NYPD Blue did Sam's coworkers Played by Michael Imperioli and Havey Keitel do a great job every week as the veteran cops who not only don't believe Sam is from the future they think he;s plain crazy. In fact Havey Keitels Character (Gene Hunt) seems to enjoy yelling at him and punching him. Other surprising twists is when Sam runs into people from his past. Such as when he is investigating a serial killer and he ends up meeting a future criminal as a Young boy. He's also come to the aide of his own mother, and has met his former partner as a Young detective. Gretch Moll does a wonderful job here as well as the Squads apparently only Policewoman Maggie Norris who believes something is wrong with him but isn't sure he's from the future. The music is used really well here it always flows with the plot and if you like seventies music I think you'll enjoy it. The way we get reminded of Sams dilemma is fun. Each week something happens he is reminded of something important by an old public service announcement, an unplugged phone may start ringing, or a small wind up toy may boost his memory. I hope the Audience gives this show a chance.
W. (2008)
The Life and Presidency of George W Bush
10/21/08
"W" is Oliver Stones Latest film and it's a good one.
This film has had some comments about how funny it is while I did laugh some times I would say its more of a drama. The reason is because at its core is a story about a man searching for his purpose in life and acceptance from his Father. The cast is terrific here especially its star Josh Brolin who gives a wonderful performance as America's President. The audience will see the man as his life progress's from an immature college student to the Presidecy. Other good performances come from Richard Dreyfus as Dick Chenney, Who is seen as the Bushes top adviser along with Carl Rowe, Thandi Newton is also good as Condolisa Rice who is frantically at times trying to reassure the President about important matters, and Elizabeth Banks does a wonderful job as Laura Bush who stands by George encouraging him at times and Suffering along with him as he tries to find his way in the world. Other interesting things are the Flashbacks in the film where we learn about his constant struggles to win his Father's approval played by James Cromwell who seems always disappointed with his son. We learn how tough it was for him to get started in politics. Other things worth noting is his love of baseball, beer, and going to party's. Note this is how George W Bush is Portrayed in the film. The scenery was great I thought I was watching a meeting with the President. The large room, the television monitors, the map of the Middle East and Eurasia, on a silver screen. The scenes on the ranch are very beautiful and we think they are in the Texas countryside. They do some very good scene recreating news footage of George W Bush on a Navy Battle Ship, and some actual footage of Statues of Sadam Huessan being pulled down and showing Bushes reaction. Josh Brolin shines as the lead in this show he looks and sounds like Bush down to accent his supposed Misuse of words when he's upset Elisabeth Banks and Ellen Burstayn also deserve credit as Laura and Barbra Bush who see both the highs and lows of bing a politicians wife when their husbands win but, the heart break when they loose the race. I liked this film a lot but I'm giving this film an 8,because I just did not believe every thing was true. Such as the constant fight between George senior and his son, He seems too much like a gentleman to have such a combative relationship with his son. Also there were parts where the President looked lost and silly I didn't buy that because he did go to Yale he was Govenor of Texas, and he owned a baseball team. Note another good performance is given by Jeffrey Wright as Colin Powell, who is seen sympathetic here as a Military Vetran who just can't see a reason for this war. However, I believe he had more influence during his time with the Administration than they are saying here.
The Dark Knight (2008)
Batman Battles The Joker
9/26/08 This is a geat action film.
I think if you're a Batman fan you'll love this show. But, even if you're not there is enough excitement to keep you interested.Though if your not a fan of the passed films and comic books the characters may not grab everyones interest. That said I thought this was a great movie I was on the edge of my seat from start to finish wondering what will happen next. A lot has been said about how good the Late Heath Ledger'swas playing the Joker but, he really did scare me. Plus he kept me wondering what he's up to all through the story. The gadgets and stunts are very fun to watch and some will surprise the audience I'm sure. Most of the cast is back such as Christian Bale in the title role. Michael Cane, Morgan Freeman, and Maggie Gyllenhaal has replaced Katy Holmes as Bruce's former girlfriend Rachelle Dawes.
The plot centers on Bruce's attempt to keep order in Gotham by using his alter ego the crusader known as Batman. His main problem is the Joker a man who enjoys crime and destruction. There is also a lession in morality and the choices we make in life. The fight scenes are the best that's where Heath Ledger and Christian bale shine together as if their lives really depend on the out come. There are also parts where we see the more human side of Bruce as when he shows concern for Rachelle's safety and wonders, if they will ever been together. I think Michael Cane and Christian Bale play opposite each other well. One minute Alfred is telling a bleeding and Bruised Bruce to learn his limits, the next he's telling him Gotham still needs Batman.
I say see the movie though remember there are some very violent scenes.
Harvest Moon (2007)
A group of friends go to a countryside Apple orchard to help a mutual friend run his business..

"Harvest Moon" is a great film for anyone who loves horror films. This movie kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. (Which I always enjoy). The scenery was beautiful The trees, the valley, the bears you see in the very beginning. At night every thing seems to be pitch black and the house is very quite even with people in it. All this adds to the fear of the unknown which scares everyone. I think that's what this film does the best it makes things that are ordinary Such as photos, dolls. and nature itself look frightening. Anyone who wants twists and turns in their mystery movies will be excited. I think the acting was very good I cared about this group of innocent people all through the story. They are not tough guys ready for action you see honest reactions and fear in their performances. The villains are people that would fool anyone they do not stand out as larger than life characters. They're people you could meet any where in life. You 'll also hear some passing mention to other great classics. Give this DVD a chance.
Parents should know there are some violent scenes.
