A Refreshing Romcom without Conventional Clichés
9 February 2024
In the world of Korean romcoms, the Cinderella complex often dominates, where female leads relying on male counterparts for the assistance and support. However, this show defies the norm by presenting a female lead who is refreshingly independent yet adorable and romantic. The chemistry between the main characters is great, and in its own simple way adds some intrigue to the storyline.

The secondary couple was also interesting, particularly with Kim Ji-hoon's charming presence in a romcom after his remarkable villain role in a serious show like "Flower of Evil". The choice of a rockish OST over the typical pop tunes seen in kdramas is also a pleasant deviation, made the whole watch even more fun.

Finally, I think it was a great idea to go with a more concise 10-episode format, instead of the usual 16 episodes of kdramas that often result in unnecessary plot dragging and convoluted yet dumb twists in the final act of the story.

Overall, this kdrama romcom stands out as a breath of fresh air and ranks among the best in the genre.

May Her Future Lives Be Much Happier and Conflict-Free
29 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I loved this show-the amazing cast, the perfect bromance between the grim reaper and goblin, the epic soundtracks, and so on. However, the bittersweet ending was a bit too much for my taste. The inevitable death of Eun-tak was too dark for a finale, and I always argue that there wasn't enough time to truly appreciate the last few minutes of happy scenes right before the ending.

For example, the fact that Sunny and the grim reaper forgot their past lives requires at least half an episode for the viewers to bond with the new personalities that, at some subconscious level, loved each other for eternity. Moreover, considering that this is the second life of Eun-tak, there is no guarantee that it is conflict-free. Given how the gods in this world system hate long-lasting relationships, I could see death coming after her again (maybe they are just torturing the goblin). Either way, I hoped there were some hints that this time it's going to be different for the main characters, and we had more time to witness their long-awaited happiness.

Especially not providing any explicit solution for Goblin's immortality makes the whole story eventually tragic. So once again, may her second, third, and fourth lives be much happier and conflict-free! ^^

A watch-worthy romcom
14 January 2024
This tv series gives off a really good vibe, providing viewers with a heartwarming melodrama without being too in-your-face. The writers don't get on your nerves; they simply deliver what you want: a feel-good romcom with a cheerful tone. Having said that, despite its many merits, I personally couldn't get past some points that stopped me from giving it a higher rating.

Firstly, the chemistry between Park Min-young and Park Seo-joon, while not entirely missing, didn't click with me. This could also be partly because of writing issues, as the story didn't create enough special moments between their characters and specially the narcissist aspect of the male lead was sometimes too much and ruined the mood. Either way, in the end I feel the main leads didn't have the right chemistry but that's just a personal take.

A bigger issue came up in the last few episodes (the last 30% of the show), where the story completely lost its pacing and I felt the writers ran out of material. They didn't seem to know what to do when characters overcame the previous challenges, and when it was time to witness their hard-earned happiness we were presented the same old formula from earlier episodes. Lots of repeated dialogues, flashbacks and same interactions. Don't take me wrong, I really hate the forced misunderstandings and last-minute problems to move the story along and this was a lesser evil to me but at the same time, the writers here failed to create some memorable moments to carry the story to the end. The intimate moments didn't hit different anymore, and the romantic scenes didn't have the emotional impact of earlier episodes.

Another small downside was that the side characters' stories weren't explored enough. There were interesting couples on the sidelines that could've been given more time, and it felt like a missed chance not to focus on them. Considering the above-mentioned issue (writers not knowing what to do with the main lead), I expected more from these secondary couples but we didn't get to see much there.

But all in all, I must admit, even with these personal nitpicks, I still believe this will make any kdrama fan happy, especially if you're looking for a feel-good series you'll be satisfied as the overall experience is fun and uplifting.

A Beautiful Tale of Broken People
9 January 2024
I really enjoyed this show but at the same time, I think I understand the mixed reviews due to different perspectives or interpretations. To me, the story revolves around three individuals struggling with different mental issues, who, almost magically (magic of melodrama), discover a beautiful synergy that provides the heartwarming satisfaction we anticipate from a feel-good kdrama. I think to enjoy this it's important for viewers to accept that this is a kdrama, with typical plot holes and melodramatic events. It is certainly not a celebration of toxic relationships nor a recipe for establishing real-life, healthy relationships. None of the three main characters can be considered "normal" in the realm of mental health so there is no point to compare them to normal people. Nevertheless, the adorable love story and the sweet moments woven into the show merit all the praise. For anyone who wants a feel-good romance this will undoubtedly prove satisfactory.

One last point regarding the ending: While not perfect, IMO it was good enough. Having said that, I think it could be much better if it gave us a chance to witness how these characters will navigate their ongoing journey together and sustain a lasting relationship but despite this, the ending, on the whole, was a decent wrap-up.

Surprisingly great romantic-thriller drama
5 January 2024
What a great romantic-thriller! Definitely one of the better kdramas out there in literally every aspect! There are of course numerous amazing aspects to this show. First, the thriller drama is exceptionally interesting; it makes the viewer hooked up with a decent pacing and execution. The actings are phenomenal surpassing the average kdramas by far. The main serial killer exudes a truly ominous vibe, and even his brief presence dramatically shifts the mood. Even the little cute, adorable girl adds a layer of appreciation to the entire execution. Overall, the side characters are also portrayed quite interestingly.

Above all, to me, the most commendable aspect was the romance at the heart of the story. The romantic elements in this stand out as some of the best I've seen in any kdrama. In the end I found myself wanting more, but not in a way that suggests the ending was unsatisfying. I cannot recommend this enough; even if you are not a kdrama watcher, this is definitely worth a try-100%.

Good show with an unsatisfying rushed ending
27 December 2023
Had it not been for the horribly rushed ending, I would have given a much higher rating for this series. I initially intended to commend the show for its amazing cast, captivating moments, and so on but alas, the conclusion was nothing short of disappointing. The pacing of the finale was so hurried that it seemed they forgot to tie up some loose ends, leaving some reunions and long-awaited encounters conspicuously absent. The last episode hastily introduced a new plotline, and naturally lacked the necessary time for proper development. Ironically, before that, during several episodes I felt like the writers struggled to fill the story for the whole 20 episodes and yet, in the final episode, they rushed so much to add more content. I think everyone expected somewhat more satisfying reveals and reunions in the concluding episodes, which never materialized. Considering how undeniably and criminally unsatisfying the ending was, I cannot recommend this to anyone.

Missed Opportunities: A Disappointing Blend of Mediocre Writing and Execution
18 December 2023
I considered giving this one an even lower rating, but a few sweet moments and interesting side characters (e.g, Duan Ning) nudged my rating up slightly. While the minimalistic romantic story had its potential, the drawbacks, at least for me, were too noticeable to overlook and significantly marred the overall quality of the show.

The issues plaguing this show begin with the casting choices. The female lead, barely 18 during filming, visibly lacks the depth of a seasoned actress. She still manages to pull off the high school phase and compared to her counterpart, she outshines in expressing emotions. The male lead, unfortunately, falls short with a static and emotionless portrayal, making the chemistry of some side characters more convincing than the lead couple.

Additionally, intimate moments suffer from uninspired and poorly executed scenes, something that I think is primary the responsibility of the director. If for whatever reason, you decide to try this series, I strongly recommend skipping the kissing scenes, as they were among the least convincing intimate scenes I've ever seen. Ironically, there is a scene where the lead couple are watching a romantic scene from a classic movie- could be Gone with the Wind (1939) or Notorious (1946), either way, to me it was so sad to see after almost 80 years, the series fails to replicate the memorable romantic essence of those classic movies.

Last but not least, the writing here is a chaotic mess. Twists and challenges faced by the couple felt disorganized, with resolutions consistently worse and totally unsatisfying. For instance, the love triangle subplot in the awkward birthday party scene, and the male lead's decision to hack into a public monitor or something similar to confess his feelings- a bizarre moment that lacks any emotional impact. The show is riddled with such poor writing choices, leaving viewers puzzled by what should be memorable emotional moments. E.g., the male lead's tragic!?! Backstory, his unexplained departure from his hometown, the messy introduction of the love triangle, the infamous timeskip towards the end (which I've seen almost everyone was confused about) and lots of more bad calls which only add to the series' narrative shortcomings.

In conclusion, I cannot recommend this show due to its amateurish execution and the absence of finesse expected in a quality romantic drama.

Simple yet adorable love story
15 December 2023
Very cute and simultaneously commendable TV show. The narrative goes beyond the typical romance dramas that only depict how a couple gets together and wraps it up there. For me, it's always a plus when the story extends beyond the initial honeymoon phase. Although it goes to that extent (and even includes some more than welcome timeskips), the story never loses its positive tone, which I personally prefer over annoying rollercoaster drama. I also appreciate how it considers the challenges of having different social statuses and long-distance relationships in a sweet, heartwarming way, rather than using them merely as plot devices to inject complications. I would have given this show an even higher rating if it weren't for the boring rocket science scenes and bland nationalistic elements that detracted from its overall appeal.

A Standout Romcom Gem
9 December 2023
Whether you're a Kdrama enthusiast or not, this captivating romcom stands out as one of the finest in its genre. While I initially harbored some reservations, I wholeheartedly concede that it has gracefully withstood the test of time for me, prompting me to rewrite my review of this endearing show. Nearly every aspect of it, from the adorable characters to the heartwarming romance, engaging side stories, and delightful comedic elements, left a lasting impression on me.

Despite a less-than-perfect ending, which I'm inclined to forgive, the overall experience of this series is nothing short of cheerful and heartwarming. It effortlessly weaves together elements that make it a standout in the realm of romantic comedies, ensuring an enjoyable journey for viewers.

Unpopular opinion: The last season ruined the whole show
4 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I get ppl loving this show and I agree with all the praises except the ending which practically ruined it for me. Simply said it wasn't for me and in general went against everything I liked about this show from humorous witty moments as opposed to more serious narration of Breaking bad, to forcing a demise for characters viewers cared about, like how Kim Wexler, pullin off a sudden break up or rushed ending of Lalo and whatever they wanted to do with Nacho. From my perspectiv the previous seasons showed the good nature of Jimmy despite being hated by almost everyone but in the end he was depicted as a vile criminal who must face his inevitable punishment (prolly writers wanted to break him bad?). Another point of attraction of first few seasons was Mike being an interesting character who we cared about but now in the final season he became trivial and almost forgotten in the final ride. They also did dirty to Kim. Especially this character was interesting because unlike Skyler, she actually supported and helped the protagonist/anithero, but I guess the writers at some point decided to punish her for that and for me that build up didn't make any sense whatsoever. The awkward sex scene of Kim with that random dude felt like so forced and out of place I think writers wanted to defile her one way or another. Either way it was obvious the writers had some urge to force their moral compass throughout the season (again). All in all I find it weird how the light hearted spin off of Breaking Bad had more of a tragic ending than it's more serious predecessor.

Boring and predictable
26 June 2022
I don't get the hype around this low quality production. In 9 episodes there are not even 9 memorable dialogues. Some acting were way off or over dramatic and the lack of integrity in story telling was noticeable. Specifically the pacing for such an action based story seemed very slow and the events became more and more predictable. Some games were so bland and boring that could be easily omitted. In fact I will argue that the final game which supposed to be an iconic main event was actually the most mind-numbing stupid event of the whole series. Just imaging a mortal kombat-like fight instead of that second-rate farce. Hell even underground illegal fights would be more interesting to watch.

Really entertaining Sam Raimi movie
4 May 2022
I haven't seen many Marvel/DC movies and even missed the first dr strange movie but this was a very fun movie to me with great pacing, top-notch acting and satisfying storytelling. Sorta stupid and cheesy but really entertaining and even creative. In short: a Sam Raimi movie.

Also should mention the amazing visuals and epic music. Sound effects were also incredible. But again I'm a Sam Raimi fan so take this review with a pinch of salt.

Beautiful but ignorant
7 October 2021
In terms of drama and romance this movie is sort of a masterpiece but from a historical standpoint and considering the ignorant tone regarding the well-known social issues of that time, it's kina tasteless. It glorifies the southern army and depicts only caricatures of black servants. IMHO a movie whitewashing such serious issues shouldn't be considered as one of the greatest movies of all time no matter how high the production quality. So in a sense similar to Scarlett, the movie is beautiful to watch but ignorant about some important matters.

Pervert demon abusing little girl
7 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It's so sad to see that there are so few good horror movies, that this perverted disgusting claptrap is considered a classic in the genre. Seriously, there is a distinct difference between obscene and scary. Possessed little girl shooting vomits, masturbating violently or getting beaten by an invisible force is plain disgusting and should be shunned by film critics not glorified as a masterpiece. Having said that, I admire Friedkin for his cinematic mastery. Friedkin is successful in creating an immersive atmosphere which engages audience. Alas, an obscene and utterly stupefying plot stops me from rating higher.

Powerful emotional roller coaster
3 July 2021
All in all, this is one of the better horror/survival movies I've seen. It has an overall great story and is filled with great emotional moments. Also aside from some cheesy moments the story is sorta clever and includes a really good roster of characters with lots of zombie action.

Among the best action/comedy movies in years
5 April 2021
I'm not a Guy Ritchie fan but I have watched this three times now and I must say this is a criminally underrated movie which would appeal to anyone with a knack for appreciating action films. I It is definitely better than a lot of acclaimed more serious action movies. IMO it's in the same league as best James Bond movies. I especially admire its comedy tone and the fantastic roster of interesting characters which is a missing feature in a lot of similar movies. Equally noteworthy is the music and awesome soundtracks which fit well to the style and theme of the story. If you're in the mood don't hesitate to watch this amazing action/comedy even if it's for a second time.

Did the hype ruin it for me?
19 March 2021
It was not a bad movie but I guess I had high expectations. If you compare it with the Whedon's theatrical cut, it's definitely a great movie but in comparison to a masterpiece like Dark Knight this is merely an entertaining film. All in all, this is a decent movie but I just don't get the hype personally.

Vikings (2013–2020)
7/10
Sorta of a mess
10 March 2021
You start off with an interesting story of Ragnar's journey to new lands, and experience a thrill of the clash of cultures and civilizations, but in a few seasons you'll end up with a bunch of boring characters and even more boring wars and skirmishes. For me the most interesting part of the Vikings was that you could have a sense of adventure with Rangar and his crewmates as they discovered new world and encountered new people. Unfortunately this didn't last for too long and even got worse when later on Bjorn journeys felt a bit rushed and kinda unsatisfying. Furthermore, as the show goes on you can recognize a pattern of uneven pacing and inconsistency. Some events occur with no explanation and characters change their attitudes for no apparent reason (sometimes within a single episode). For example a Christian princess who hates a certain viking at the beginning of an episode, falls in love with the same viking by the end of the episode. (Don't take me wrong, I liked that little romantic side-story but the writing seemed thrown together) Obviously the story had a potential for more political subtleties and complex characters but I guess the writers decided to focus on creating intriguing atmosphere instead. All in all, this is not a bad show, specially first few seasons worth a watch, but you shouldn't have very high expectations.

Solid and Engaging Season 2
21 February 2021
I haven't watched the first season yet but I enjoyed watching the second one, Deadly Games. At first I was worried since it is based on true stories, the story would drag and expected a bunch of boring characters, but I ended up liking the show. The story has good pacing imo, and it doesn't move too quickly or slowly. The characters are interesting and well written and I liked some of them. And although the ending was not satisfying enough for me it was okay (considering it was inspired by real events there was not much room for further dramatizing).

Mediocre show with a rushed ending
20 February 2021
The show has some good moments and Cranston displays his acting prowess but the story is filled with so many clichés and bad lines it's kinda irritating to watch. My biggest gripe though is the rushed ending and lame final episode. I guess the plot was dragged out for so long they had to wrap up everything with such weird ending.

Wasted potential
17 February 2021
I was disappointed to see so many missed opportunities. Considering the psychological aspects of the story we could observe some deep intellectual conversation between the so-called "demon" and these professional psychiatrics, psychologists and social workers. Specially after the big "twist", the protagonist's reaction to the extreme situation is full of clichés. I also believe the story could be very interesting if it was a bit more insightful about motivations but instead falls into simplistic clichés of evil monster and seems quite obtuse in doing so. All in all, if one could ignore these (and many more) missed opportunities, the story is engaging but the way it's written didn't deliver a good experience and the execution is bland and dull.

On the ending ...
7 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, this was one of the movies I hated the first time I saw and loved it the second time so if you didn't like it if possible try to give it a second try to unlock its magic. That aside, one of my favorite things about it was the brilliant ending and how it fits the whole theme. I saw some people considered it somewhat bittersweet and even sad but I believe it was a happy ending. Sure it didn't match the happiest moments of the story and it may be implied that Sebastian was lonely but all in all I think it was a happy ending. Mias husband was obviously nice and a gentleman, both Mia and Seb reached their career dreams and more importantly I don't think Mia's child was a random thing in the script and I considered it a symbol of her happy life. Another important factor is the 5 years gap between Mia going to Paris (effectively breaking up with Seb) and the ending scenes. The five-year leap is not trivial at all. It's an important part of Mia's life but we ignore those years due to lack of perspective. The thing is that we generally care more about the characters that we know about, so we don't have much sympathy for this "new guy", Mia's husband. But if you can imagine that there is a story focusing on those life-changing five years, going through hardships, and developing a new relationship which leads to a happy marriage, I believe our feelings about the ending would be a bit different. Obviously we would feel more for this new relationship and cheered for the lovely couple. With this new perspective, when after all those fateful years, we face Sebastian, the handsome pianist, we consider him a rival or even a threat to the happy family because now we have no sympathy toward this guy. All I'm saying that the interpretation of the ending is a matter of perspective and for a movie about mixing reality with fantasy we should be more imaginative. That said, I understand people who are too hung up on the idea of "Soul-mate" might consider the ending bittersweet or sad. Personally I don't believe that there is only one other person who is a perfect match for us, and some might argue that this was a fantasy fairy tail world and shouldn't reflect realism but I disagree since from the first scene the subtext is blending reality and fantasy so I think the ending suits the story and imo it was a happy one.
