Mad Men: New Business (2015)
1 Million Dollars? Common.
Characters are acting super unrealistic. Diana leaving Don because she left her daughter? Not what a real person would do. Don giving his ex-wife a million dollars. Doesn't make sense, even for Don.
Sigh. Why does every good show have to drop off a cliff during their last season?
The Happening (2008)
Another underrated film by MNS
To all: The Happening was a good film. There,I said it. Some people disagree, but their reasons for finding the movie bad or tasteless bothers me (but doesn't surprises me). I remember people giving The Village bad reviews initially because not everyone understood the film for what it was right away. Looking back on it now, I think most people will agree that Village was a great film. I think Happening is receiving the same initial bad rap that Village got, but in time most MNS fans, and others who watched the film will conclude that Happening was a good film.
I feel people are misunderstanding Happening. Two main complaints regard the acting, and the plot/script/story. As I was reading the reviews I began to think that I had misunderstood the acting. For a second I too started to think that the acting was bad. But thankfully I read someone's comments regarding the acting and dialogue:
"If the dialog seems simplistic, well, look a bit deeper and realize exactly what 'regular folk' might say or do if the events of this Happening actually were occurring... this is the way the world ends, this is the way the world ends... not with the bang of snappy repartee or quotable sound-bytes, but with the whimper of incredulity and dread.
Complaining about the acting or dialog in The Happening is like complaining about the 'jumpy camera work' in Cloverfield."
Just like in all MNS movies, I felt that the acting was on point in Happening. The acting is not only a statement on how people "might" behave during such a catastrophe, but a statement on how people do behave even when there is so much to lose. Consider this: right now I'm writing this review, and shortly, you'll be reading it as if there's nothing better to do in the world. And at the same time of my writing, and your reading, the USA is fighting in a war! Yet here we both are, concerning ourselves with issues ridiculously less important as if nothing were happening at all.
The beauty of Happening (much like Village) is that it leaves most of it's audience thinking "This is ridiculous/lame, because it could never happen." Unfortunately, Happening/Village weren't portraying events that "could" happen, but events that have and are happening. People leave the theatre bickering about how preposterous the plot/story was, but in actuality the only thing preposterous is that the film was a clear portrayal of our world today and no one realized it.
But anyway, I won't keep going on and on. I just hope no one gets dissuaded from watching the film, and that those who gave it negative feedback rethink their opinions.
