This movie is painful to watch except when Diane Keaton is on screen. It was interesting to see Carol Kane and Kathryn Brody in the cast. And what a cast. Many actors I recognized in a really stinky movie. Its beyond me how this project ever got made. Thin plot, not funny, not exciting. I wonder what they were aiming for. The best I can say is its not offensive unless you tire of juvenile humor. Grabbing at girls with big cleavage, chasing around, bad singing.....This movie is just painful to sit through. I watched this because Diane is in it. I guess its to be expected that a person's early work can be less than classic. A person has to start somewhere. I'd suggest skipping this movie.

Diane Keaton and Liam Neeson are great together, but the subject matter is hard to watch.

The points of view of the different characters are well presented. You can understand everyone's behavior and conclusions.

Would I have preferred a tidy, happy ending? Yes. But this movie doesn't take the easy way out. It tackles a difficult situation caused by "enlightened, progressive" thinking, and leaves you pondering. I so wanted to point out to the characters the early errors so the catastrophic ending could be avoided.

THE GOOD MOTHER presents one of the most honest portrayals of awakening female sexuality and committed love on film.

This movie pulls no punches as it shows the pain divorce causes all involved, not just the husband and wife. I was motivated to talk with my now adult child and step-children about my divorce and remarriage.

Knowing from a Keaton biography that she had broke up with Warren Beatty just before starting this film adds to the pain of watching her suffering here. The argument in the restaurant might be over the top, but it was a relief to laugh.

I guess Albert Finney did a great job because I wanted to strangle him throughout the film and cheered when Frank gave him what he deserved.

When I first saw this movie several years ago, my dislike for the mother overshadowed the entire movie. Recently I've become a fan of Diane Keaton and bought this tape because she was in it, not remembering she played the mother. Now I see the movie in a whole other light and really like it.

The mother makes so many mistakes, not because she's an awful person, but because she's trying so hard to love her daughter. She and Carla butt heads because they are so much alike.

Some reviews bashed this movie's portrayal of the mentally handicapped. As someone who began working in the mental health field in the '80s and knows mentally handicapped married couples, I find the portrayal rings true.

I didn't care for some of the songs in the film and the scene where Daniel embarrasses Carla is so painful to watch, I usually fast forward through it.

This is a movie I enjoy over and over.

As much as I enjoyed Mel Gibson in TIM, I love this remake. Don't expect to see Candice Bergen's Murphy Brown. Here she is a dignified, gentle, caring woman. I will buy this movie on home video or DVD if its ever available. In fact, I'm always on the lookout for it.
