Barbarian (2022)
That's not how physics work.
This movie does nothing new. In fact it's a step back of the old "devolved human" theme.
The setup is the least disturbing part of the film. It could have been the basis for a decent horror flick. But where it goes from there is just ridiculous.
It could have been a mix between The Hills Have Eyes and Martyrs but it ended up being a mix between Austin Powers and the cellar lady from Evil Dead 2.
So instead of feeling uneasy and also feeling sorry for the"creature" I was just rolling my eyes at the Hulk like powers presented here.
And regarding physics: if you are the Hulk and you push yourself off really hard you might catch up with another human falling from a skyscraper. But not at the height shown here.
Ridiculous and disappointing.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Children of the Comet (2022)
The tone is still so wrong!
It's the little things that bother me and that keep me from connecting to this show.
What I hoped they wouldn't continue from the pilot was the use of colloquialism and behaviour.
Seeing a Starfleet officer running around like a hipster Street fashion model and nurse chapel using 'ridiculously' as an adjective just feels wrong.
Don't get me started on doing the dishes on a frigging Starship.
We are amongst elite officers 400 years into the future.
Yet it feels like we are watching CW shows characters from today flung into the future.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
"Are you Happy?" - I Wish I was!
Is this even a movie anymore or a companion piece to Disney plus shows?
A one dimensional "villain" with lines right out of a 60s comic book.
And a hero who's journey still revolves around one woman and the question of "Are you happy?".
Oh, and stunt casting for a bit that belongs in SNL. Reed Richards, professor X, Captain Pike?
I cannot believe Feige approved this charade!
This is one of the weakest MCU scripts yet.
Even Raimi can only perform wonders to a certain degree.
Look at the writing credits of Michael Waldron.
Nuff said!
Tenet (2020)
So this happens when you don't do test screenings?!
First of all, respect to Nolan for trying something new.
But the concept is inherently incomprehensible and sooner or later you will check out and be frustrated by all this nonsense.
The actors are all giving their best.
The score is good too but seems to have been made for a completely different movie. But at least it is so loud it prevents you from falling asleep.
First "Love is the answer!" now "TED Talk, The Movie".
Nolan does not care for the audience anymore.
And I don't care about Nolan anymore.
Sad!
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
From the guy that brought you "Batman v Superman" comes Robot Chicken Emperor and he IS all the Marthas!
The first two thirds are a fun enough adventure, although the Emperor plot is sooo "forced".
But then the last third comes directly from observing toddlers playing Star Wars. It's basically Lego Star Wars. It is all so bonkers!
Even Lucas has never written dialogue like this. I was longing for a little bit of sand.
I did not like TLJ at all but this ending makes this the worst Star Wars movie ever.
I have spoken!
Godzilla (2014)
Don't believe the hype! They tricked me and I hate them for it.
If you are like me you wanted to see this film for the spectacle. Disaster, excitement and destruction. Godzilla fighting other monsters in never before seen fidelity. This is what it is really is: approx. 10 minutes of the above (although mostly in the dark!) and the rest is boring characters coincidently stumbling from one boring talking piece to the next. If you make a film in which Godzilla is mostly happening in the background and on TV screens have the decency to market it accordingly. After many years I really have to evaluate my method of seeing movies on opening night if this trend of audience deception continues. Shame on you!
Minority Report (2002)
Intelligent movie on first sight but...(SPOILERS !!!)
Minority Report(MR) reminded me very much of Blade Runner(BR), a movie that I always "wanted" to like but always fell asleep watching it. MR is more entertaining than BR but less than A.I., Spielberg´s last film. I want to point out a "major" plot hole though that brings down the whole concept of the movie and will keep me from watching it again. SPOILER! Apparently, Director Burgess framed Anderton (Cruise) and set up everything so Anderton could fulfill is future and in order to get rid of a possible threat to his life work. At first sight it looks all so logical. Everything has been prepared, the poor guy has been payed for getting himself killed, photos have been arranged and you think "now it makes sense!". Problem is, that it is the most illogical plot ever conceived. It is not even the typical "time travel paradox", it is just plain stupid. Just ask yourself, how could Burgess have known about and planned all this in the past before ever seeing the "precog"-vision for himself that he could not see before he planned the set-up in the first place? How could he know where to send the "to-be killed" guy? How could he know where Anderton would go, what he would do? He just could not! A time paradox I could have lived with would have been that Burgess traveled to the future saw the vision and than arranged everything from the past. I can´t understand why no movie critic seemed to have discovered this major flaw!
