Classic and cinematic
1 January 2024
If you have the chance to watch this Tjech miniseries, please do. It is not al all like any American of Netflix series. This is history being told in a classic and cinematic way. I made me think of the Oscar winning movie The Pianist, by Roman Polanski, also set in East Europe.

The story is set in early communist Czechoslovakia and shot in intriguing old buildings. Young actor Lanik (Jan Cina) plays a theatre actor on the rise. Communism has a tight and lethal grip on every part of society, and now they interfere with the arts. Lanik is forced to to spy on high profile men. With his angelic looks, intelligence and charm he goes on a mission.

All actors are great. The story really saddened me. Once again it becomes clear how inhuman and violent the communist party was and how impossible it was to stay out of their dirty games.

Nauseating shouting
26 November 2023
Unbelievable this movies is high rated. Let me warn you. The When Evil Lurks' actors shout their way through the script. Shouting on shouting on shouting and crazy vocal hystericals, untill I got a headache. Besides the actors look awfull forlorn, like the the auditions were held on a landfill. Their nails are dirty, their beards very unkept and clothes straight out of the garbage bins. I know farm life is tough but this was redneck ultra, yet their parts did not require this.

Halfway When Evil Lurks I gave up on this movie, not a surprise.

I am a lover of horror, and I've seen many, from all over the globe. This one actually was a real dissapoinment.

Nope (2022)
3/10
In the end Nope follows chliché plots
2 September 2022
I just come home from the theater. Get Out from a couple of years ago was a great movie, in terms of horror and social criticism, so I decided to watch Nope. Well, I'm only partly impressed. The beautiful part here is the staging, it is truly an artists masterpiece. It has this Lil Nas X vibe and esthetics which are breathtaking.

Im not so much impressed by the story and acting of this pretentious artsy movie. It takes too long before the story starts to devellop. In the end Nope follows chliché plots that have been done countless times begore. Think 'The War of the Worlds' by Spielberg.

Keke Palmer is unwatchable annoying. Down right ugly styled and behaving absolutely boorish she screams her way through the movie. It was torture for me, really. I get it she plays a lesbian, but this is too stereotyped. Daniel Kaluuya's understated acting was nice. Brandon Perea was the best. He showed a real life persona with feelings.

when you love to feel dumb
26 June 2022
The actors are good, especially Cush Jumbo. She convinces as a multi faced woman with a shady past. As for the plot, I advice you to better search for a story in mashed potatoes. Just for thrill's sake one dumb move is piled up to another in a never ending towerconstruction collapsing every 30 minutes. Watch it when you love to feel dumb about yourself for not understanding, when in fact none of the writers and crew knows whats going on.

Two Summers (2022– )

Downfall of toxic masculinity
5 June 2022
Two Summers is a drama miniseries from Belgium, a country that has been thriving in acting ever since fabulous stage en movie actress Dora van der Groen became artistic leader at the theatre academy in Antwerpen in the 1970s. The Two Summers' story develops as a feminist process which includes the modern #metoo movement as well as Cancel Culture, both unquestionably threatening to men. The series is acted and photographed in great beauty.

energetic, warm, smart, colorful, glorious and dramatic

This musical is made with much love and dedication, from the smallest details up untill a massive scale. The actors are phenomenal and believe a 100% in the production. They shine, and warm up my heart. And oh boy, they can sing and dance with a stamina better than Olympic athletes. Anthony Ramos has a fantastic screen presence, you just cant but go along with his emotions. Delightful to watch him express every mood possible.

Good for the most part, ending ruins it
27 November 2021
A good movie about economic migration. Not so great is the constant flashing forwards and backwards. It interrupts the atmosphere. I prefer the parts with the young actors, they are very handsome and convincing. I didn' t care much for the last part with the real couple. They are very different from the fictional couple, which stole my heart. I'm really happy they make a good living in the US. The fact that Mexico is run by a criminal government is overlooked at the expences of the US, and that is not fair. That's why the last part bothered me, and makes me rate it lower.

meh
22 October 2021
The original Halloween movie was shot with love for cinematic imagery. So much not this one. The editing feels like a cheap video clip, too fast to feel anything. Jamie Lee Curtis, great acting, lies in a hospital bed, thats all. Than there is a bunch of ugly old men being hysterical while the nonstop gore becomes very boring. This movie lacks atmosphere desperately.

The horrible truth about religion
1 October 2021
Never before have I been educated about religious believes this intense and deep. For me it became christal clear that Roman Catholicism is based on cannibalism, as a means to spread this believe. All religions are cults when you take their discours literal. We all know where cults lead to, usually mass suicide.

The series' only minus is director Mike Flanagan's girlfriend Kate Siegel. She is not able to express a single emotion from botox overdosage. Her face is a stiff mask.

One Summer (1983)
9/10
working class action filming
22 September 2021
Very interesting to look back at 1983. I was 21 at that time but I never watched this Our Summer. I only have watched one episode but I can see this series was made in a very modern way. It is filmed in action, raw, and shaky. The story is set in a working class environment. The two protagonist are emotionally neglected by their parents and grow up in bitter poverty. They desperately seek a way out, but sadly they regard education as useless. As young as they are, they carry deep psychological scars which makes them nihilistic, like the young generations did in those days. England is 'famous' for its motion pictures about the working class. Our Summer belongs to the same genre as for instance Ken Loach's socially critical directing style and socialist ideals movies. I can totally relate to the men who experienced England in those days as a young man and wrote their revies here.

I look very much towards the story progress. The two boys are going to meet a gay older person. What will be his influence? I might write about it later.

Luce (I) (2019)
9/10
Hitchcockian thriller
19 April 2020
Luce is a post 9/11 paranoid thriller. Has evil entered a perfect middle class family in a nice suburb? And if yes, how far does a couple go to protect their childs future? Brilliantly acted by Kelvin Harrison Jr. , Naomi Watts and Octavia Spencer, Luce slowly burns under your skin. Not often a script is so verbally eloquent and refined as with Luce, it is a sheer pleasure to listen to all the dialogues and monologues. Near the end the story goes a different path than expected. It is painful to watch. Characters turn out to be a big dissapointment but nobody will erver know and they go on with their corrupted and destructive path in life covered up in glamour. The person who stands for the highest ethical values is victimized. Undigestable.

Mud (2012)
1/10
One Big Cliché
28 September 2013
From the start "Mud" drowns in its own misery and misantropia. The director probably thought: "the more realism, the better movie". Well, that's a mistake. I know redneck America exists, and people do live in trailers. But the way "Mud" portrays these people feels very forced and unnatural. The character's vulgarity and lack of style is so obvious and in your face. No surprises. The bitter truth.

In other words: One Big Cliché.

McConaughey's accents makes your ears bleed. Witherspoon's outfit and expression is dreadful. What's the point of presenting these beautiful actors this ugly? That is so unfair towards the real people who can't pay their medical bills. Besides, why not hire real unhollywoodian actors with real dental problems and original accents? Could it be in that way the movie wouldn't sell? Hello! An amateur actor in Arkansas wants to have a chance too! The word 'exploitation' comes to mind, this time in a very twisted context.

The only good part of this movie is the photography. It was awesome and could produce many a good painting.

Inception (2010)
1/10
Totally uninteresting
2 December 2010
I didn't like anything about this movie and I don't understand why people rate it high. Why do people lately anyway like movies that are inarticulate? The dreams were stupid and the characters too. Who cares anyway what happens in this film?

Usually I can appreciate sci fi movies like Solaris. They are great to me and I enjoy the mystery and the futuristic scenery. But sadly Inception is pretentious and empty.

I have to admit, I could only watch it for 1 hour, then I had to leave because it was a waste of my time, I rather do nothing actually. All along the movie the actors kept explaining things, and that killed the integral.

I don't know why a wonderful actor like Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who has done some very artistic independent movies, wants to play this cardboard man? Leonardo diCaprio in Shutter Island will always be one of my favorite parts ever.

You know what? It's that "Look at me I'm very important" style of acting that I dislike with Inception. It takes itself way too serious while the plot is no more than a thumbed B comic.
