Six (2011)
Solid stab at a difficult genre
Six is both an example of the advantages of low budget independent film making and some of the constraints.
The settings for both the 3 seemingly trapped people, and the mysterious observers, is impressive. The tunnels and offices are atmospheric and De La Mare knows how to use a camera to good effect, creating a compelling and interesting story which runs for just the right amount of time.
The film does falter is some departments, action is always difficult to do with limited resources and Six tries but does fall short at making realistic and engaging action. Also the actors are either still young or inexperienced and it can take away from the attempts to build tension in bits, however don't take away from a dramatic ending that does make up for most faults.
Six is a good effort, the sort of effort that warrants more money given to the people who made it, to create an even better film as a result.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)
It's great, you just need to think about it briefly
O.K, there are aliens, O.K, there is a nuclear explosion, but come on, how can we hate that and still love Raiders when it decided to end with an army of ghosts popping out of a big box and killing Nazis, or Crusade with an impossible stone in gun scene.
Point is, I like this film, it's got a real more up to date feel, yet really maintains the Indy vibe. It has all the traditional stuff, whip, side kick, Marion, why hate it.
And over all, it's not the destination, it's the journey. And one hell of a journey it is, filled with action, humour and great dialogue and mystery, it's a brilliant plot and a must see.
9/10 from me.
21 (2008)
Very Oceans 13
If this film has given me any good experiences its that I now have a proper strategy to count cards.
The lines given by the characters are brilliant and the characters are brilliant. Despite the lack of famous-ness of the actors I found each of them to be perfect for the part and gave each of them there own individuality.
A nice plot that really mimes the tone of Oceans 13, one of my favourite films with the team bantering like the other 11.
The nice location and music were pretty good and a final twist at the end meant a very good ending.
All in all very nice.
Jumper (2008)
A nice film
O.K, I can accept how people dislike it, there are plot holes. But I went to the cinema that day to see a lot of good fun, and that's what it is. Griffin was a brilliant character and Samuel L Jackson has his usual Bad-ass-o-meter off the chart and the final battle was amazing.
Though I do submit after wanting to strangle Hayden through the Star Wars trilogy, I decided to give him the chance and say, "Hell, lets see if he can act in a real place, rather than green screen". He screwed up there.
All in all it had a brilliant idea and a brilliant variety of locations and budget which has made me happy for a sequel. Yeah, that's right Jumper haters, they're making a sequel.
