The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D (2005)
bletch!
boring...incoherent...babbling...dribble! This has to be one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It's like Candyland morphed with Tron. We took my 6 year old son to see it today. He sat through about the first hour of it and then lost interest.
They had the "you must keep dreaming and make your dreams come true" speech about ten times too many and the "Who am I..REALLY?" whine about ten times too many also. And they also had to throw in the " my parents just don't understand" subplot (they hint at the parents splitting up but never actually say the word divorce) and the mandatory "evil teacher changes his attitude" character.
Then at the end, everything in the world is absolutely perfect and beautiful. The school bully has learned his lesson, the parents have fallen in love all over again (which has absolutely nothing to do with anything else that happened in the movie),and the school nerd is a now a hero.
Nothing in the movie connects with anything else in the movie. The special effects were dismal. I think someone spit out food about 97 times just so they could have 3-d chunks blowing at you. The 3-d glasses were too dark on the red side causing the effects to be out of focus. Sometimes, I had to take the glasses off just to see what was supposed to be happening.
The only reason I gave it a 2 was because it kept my son interested for about 1 hour,...otherwise, a big fat 0.
The Phantom of the Opera (2004)
Beautiful, engaging, wonderful movie!
This is the first time I have seen an ALW production and DIDN'T sit there at the end thinking, "This man is smoking some weird stuff!" I usually find his music to extremely enjoyable but have always found the actual productions they were from to be weird or boring. I so looked forward to seeing "Cats" after hearing the music, then I was highly disappointed with the show.
POTO however, was absolutely amazing, intriguing, beautiful and satisfying. I have seen comments on this board where people said the actors' voices weren't strong enough--that is rubbish!!! Their voices were wonderful, strong and joyful to listen to.The only negative comment I have about the actors is that the Phantom was much better at singing lines than saying them. The sets, costumes, and scenes were breath-taking! Any woman that wouldn't melt for Raol or the Phantom's lair, just isn't even alive!
I wish there had been a little more "enchantment" to the movie when it came to the Phantom's lair. It was beautiful, but little touches (like the candle holders on the wall moving) were good and there should have been more magical touches like that throughout the whole movie.
Overall, it was a wonderful movie --from beginning to end was full of enchantment and awe!I will probably see it again on the big screen and I will definitely buy the DVD!
Bad Little Angel (1939)
I enjoyed this movie.
I thought this was a cute, sentimental movie. Many people might consider it to be sappy, but it was wholesome and sweet. It has a very strong Christian message in it. I was very interested in it and well entertained. I think it would be very good for children to watch.
