Vana espuma (1998)
Must see for anyone interested in film-making.
Solid flick, absolutely nothing short of amazing considering the budget.
I first heard of this by following recommendations through IMDb. It took a while and some effort to get a copy of it, and I'm glad I did.
The movie is short, with a run time of half an hour. However it is a nice, gestalten mixture of plot, polish, presentation, as well as great ambiance in presenting the themes of estrangement and emotional petulance. (Which is more than I can say for many big studio projects) Add a VERY professional sounding and appropriately haunting soundtrack, the movie becomes positively astounding given that only $100 was spent in its making.
It is not to say that the movie is flawless, it is fundamentally an amateur, independent movie. Despite more than solid acting overall, moments of awkwardness still surfaces, and the ending was somewhat anticlimactic.
This movie is a must see for anyone interested in film-making; it shows that one's vision can be realized despite perceived conventional hurdles. I excitedly look forward to future works from Useches.
If anything, this movie will have you whistling/humming its tunes... it made me!
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
not worth seeing more than once
ok... tolkien's work is revolutionary and creative and detailed so for sake of cultural literacy one ought to familiarize him/her self with the work and the movie gives a pretty good run-down on the happenings of Middle Earth.
This movie is more suited for a dragged out television series. It was a solid cramming of 3.5 hours of 'events', that didn't necessarily improve the quality of the movie. Rather insipid one-liners, great special effects and action scenes but overall very much drawn out.
I'd say go see it because it is Lord of the Rings but it's not worth all this hoopla.
5/10
