Reacher (2022)
This Reacher loves tanning salons and working out at the gym!
I don't believe this is a good Reacher. The haircut is too good and always the same, the very obviously fake tan and the fake gym muscles, which would need great nutrition and 5 days working out at a gym every week. But he's not doing that. Also the clothes always fit the same way, hard to always find new clothes that fit within minutes. The gym muscles and the fake tan took me out of the reality of the series many times. This would have worked in the 80s with all the unrealistic action stars, but not here. Realism please: Show him going to the gym every day and go to a tanning salon and get his nails done twice a week and I'm game.
Men of a Certain Age (2009)
Deep, human, funny and moving
This is my favorite show right now. It's done very subtle. But you can read very well in the faces of the actors, what's going on in their mind. Surprise here: kudos to Ray Romano, he steals the show. I thought Romano can't act, but he may very well be the best actor on a recent TV show. Everybody else is great, also. I also like the goodness of the character Terry. I know an actor who is like that. Calm, with a true good soul. It's very well written. The humor isn't in your face, but real life and very funny. Finally some people realize, that keeping it real is funny. Probably inspired by real looking BBC series like Spaced, The Office, Monty Pighton. I got so tired of really talented people producing great shows, which partly have quite sick contents, like severed body-parts all around a crime place or weird sex stuff. Because it's great, and there is almost no weirdo stuff in it, I give it a 10. Creativity without blood and gore, way to go, Ray!
The Heartbreak Kid (2007)
We entertain you!
Good and fun movie. I generally like Farrelly movies. If you do, go see this one. I just rented the DVD and had a lot of fun with it. The extras on the DVD are also fun to watch. San Francisco as well as Mexico look spectacular in this movie. The locations act as another character and add a lot to the movie. The women in this movie are very pretty and likable. Of course nobody should treat somebody like that - but the title of the movie is "Heartbreak Kid", so I guess what else can we expect. This movie is not "Mary", but I enjoyed it a lot. It has some weaknesses. We don't really like or dislike some of the characters - the script could have made clearer choices. We don't really root for anybody (even though I wished, he stayed with his wife - she seemed cute, nice enough and willing to change if he just had asked). Overall a typical Farrelly movie, very creative, fun to watch but some weaknesses to the script. Also many, many great performances by actors in supporting roles.
Finding Neverland (2004)
Nice movie
I like movies, where you can learn something about the past and enjoy yourself while doing it. This movie entertains and also describes (more or less accurate) the development of the great stage play Peter Pan. I wished it had more realistic lighting in the reality scenes - that could have added believability. Kate Winslet gives an outstanding performance. Without her I wouldn't have liked it as much. I'm looking forward to see what the director does with the next Bond movie. Johnny Depp was OK, but far from great. The storyline is interesting enough, could have more drama and challenges for the protagonist, though. Also the character development could be deeper with all characters. Dustin Hoffman gives a great performance. He does little and achieves a lot.
