Inception (2010)
i think it was an OK movie by nolan's standards (which by the way is real high)
nolan has set standards which are unparalleled in recent times. saying that it some times works against such an immensely talented man who is just simply among my best directors of the current times. bat man begins was magic, and very few expected any thing that could better it. but he came back with much meaner sexier and dark sequel with dark knight... an amazing proof of creative fore sight and talent... now coming to inception... well it has surely awed many a viewers alike and is still collecting all the accolades it deserves purely out of its own merits. for a movie buff, this movie delivers everything that is promised. so don't even think even once to catch this movie at your near by theaters. but when comes to my personal take on this, please read it knowing that it is coming with lots of respect to my favorite director nolan. the concept though innovative is not a new idea. this has been there in lots of Japanese animae like the ghost in a shell. the story gets too predictable and a little jaded at times. nolan's talent always sparkled because his previous movies had subtle inner hidden messages and ideas in his movies... one could relate to his movies at so many different levels. compared to his previous efforts, this movie comes as a little two dimensional. apart from this minor hitch, it is still a very good movie for every one. its what they have come to term as a movie which compels you to think... and we are lucky to have directors like nolan who manages to give us such work of art every time he indulges us though his medium of movie making... thank you...!
Wanted (2008)
it sucked big time
i have no idea how this movie got that kind of rating. everything about it was pathetic and such a lame effort. come on... its supposed to be a mark miller creation... and look at what they had reduced it to.... rats! the story line has the same old plot of all the super hero tales... its boring and very predictable. i cant even imagine the way the main character is played.... i mean he no way looks any closer to the super-human assassin he is supposed to be... i feel good amount of talent was wasted on badly developed characters... this is just a pop corn movie, it could have been so much better. its good to watch when your brains have gone to graze and you don't know what to do with your life.
WALL·E (2008)
not up to my (abnormally high) expectations
quite simply the movie was not up to what i imagined it could have been. blame it on the late release in our country and the media going over the peak in promoting it. i simply failed to connect with what other people felt after watching this wonderful movie. i think i have gone senile over the years. now sweeping aside these negative points which are wholly my own personal point of view, i would say that this is a wonderful family movie. kids will love it. the romance between two seemingly mechanical robots are expressed very beautifully. a very tough job for any animator. i myself couldn't stop falling in love with eva.
The Dark Knight (2008)
its a super flick, no doubt..... but
it took me a couple of viewing, paying premium ticket price to make up my mind about this movie. (by the way thats a compliment) one simple fact. its a very good movie. after tim burton's batman, nolans's batman has come much closer to the actual character of a dark knight. superman and batman are the most respected and likable superheroes from the DC stable. and my personal favorite is Batman. it was disheartening to see how his image was reduced to mere popcorn comic hero. after a decade, nolan gave me a ray of hope with his version of batman. but never had a clue about how he was going to manage another magic trick as good as the previous one. surprises are always around the corner. not only the new magic trick was better than previous one, but went beyond my expectations. the dark knight is a good movie in almost every sense. the acting - direction - story line - music - action - the theme and the ideologies that are put across by the joker are worth pondering about. philosophy and actual day reality, makes one think beyond what a man in a mask or white paste can spit out. from a mere comic strip to a thinker's movie..... very few movies does that to an audience. a rare feat. winning the common people and the critics alike speaks volumes about this movie. still the movie has few short comings... but i would be happy to let them stay in front of this spectacular work. not but the least, my tribute to an outstanding performance by heath the joker.
Samaria (2004)
very few movies make you wonder about life
i watched this movie yesterday and it was a very refreshing viewing. though i don't see how anybody could see the logic behind the young girl's actions and her reasons, i fell in love with the way the movie is wrapped about in the end. it all makes sense in a very abstract way. leaving you to savor the taste of the movie long after you have watched it. even though the first half is a bit unconventional the latter half adds up so much to the confusion. you fall in love with the 2 protagonist. the father and the daughter. and the way the final message that comes out of the movie, of forgiveness, unconditional love, and acceptance, is very beautiful and at the same time so tragic. you are torn between the girl's stupidity and grief and sorrow of a loving father. in the base both are a epitome of sacrifice for their beloved, and both show what unconditional love is. you will love it after you have watched it.
Iron Man (2008)
dint match up to the hype
the movie was getting very good reviews as the days went by after its release. i ignored them for couple of weeks. then finally having nothing to do with my evening, i went to see the movie that was making some serious dough at the box office. it was a visual treat but it fell short of my expectations. a millionaire playboy turning into a hero, couldn't go well with me. i mean batman is portrayed more human and vulnerable, makes him such a likable character. i missed that connection in ironman. in case of spiderman, i was right in the movie. after all that story buildup in the first half, the 2nd half lets itself down with a little too less to show. the only best part of the movie was Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts. she is beautiful and has suitably played her role as pepper. she is this serious-business secretary in a moment, and a romantic seductress in another. this subtlety of character change dint happen so well with Robert Downey as ironman or tony stark... the robotics and the flying sequences are very well made. liked them a lot. the key is not to be too critical in order to enjoy this movie.
may be i will watch it again to soak in all the visual splendor this movie has to offer.
Das Leben der Anderen (2006)
a beautiful story
i liked this movie for its strong story line and wonderful performances from everybody. being a stranger to the political conflict in Germany before the wall came down, it wasn't difficult to get the drift of the movie. it means the movie that transcends all cultural-political barrier is a great achievement. in simple words, the movie takes you into the very heart of people who suffered under such absolute humiliations in the name of socialism. art, an expression of free will is taken as a symbol and the lives of a writer, his lover and the stasi inspector all come to life of their own. the writer is a very interesting character. and so is the cold hearted inspector. the beautiful lover reminded me of malena. a helpless woman driven to chose her fate at the cost of her freedom. u cant help but fall in love with her. in the midst of great turmoil this movie deals with ordinary lives with difficult choices to make.
Michael Clayton (2007)
an over rated flick?
i went in to this movie with all that hype floating around just before the big evening. and i was left disappointed. the story was simple and there was nothing in the name of a thriller. just a bland story with a glass eyed central character. i am not even sure why this movie is getting so many good reviews. i agree to one point that its a mature movie made with a certain degree of frankness. i mean there are no flashy actions or senseless bang bang. but it is just that. not an all out Oscar material. only the demented lawyer left any mark who came close to a insane man. i liked the company head's role too. she depicted woman who is caught in a rat race which have nothing but dead ends. these are the 2 characters who i felt gave that extra something to the movie. i feel its just an Oscar propaganda. just rent a DVD and lol around on the couch with home made lemonade. its not worth the ticket.
We Own the Night (2007)
it came out a bland
i went to see this movie after i saw the list of actors. but i was in for a little disappointment. the story line was too predicable. (may be i was expecting in the lines of the departed.) i felt that the time given for the characters to develop was pretty short. the change in nature of the characters as the movie progressed wasn't portrayed well. it was a letdown. but what i liked about the movie was its not-larger-than-life image. it has a very real feel to it. i liked the car chase. simple n real. And Eva Mendez looks good in her role. some how, this simplicity in the story narration makes it a movie you can reflect upon. a man who finally finds his true calling and the sacrifices he needs to make for it. another man who is not ready to make sacrifices. the transformation from bad to good, and family value. these are some little things one can pick up from this movie.
