The Family That Preys (2008)
I'm losing my faith in IMDb ratings...
Tyler Perry's The Family That Preys is a great drama that delivers both a great storyline and a great moral compass. I watched it on TV half an hour ago, and when I came to check it out here on IMDb, I was absolutely shocked that it only has 3.3 stars!
Tyler Perry does a great job of setting up scenarios filled with broken people in broken relationships, just struggling to get through life. Without giving too much away, he presents people in poverty, wealthiness, friendship, and infidelity, so there's always something you can relate to, either by personal experience, or through someone you know.
If you haven't seen this movie yet---GO SEE IT!!! Don't let the extremely low rating fool you. I'm white, young, liberal, and still enjoyed it, so you don't have an excuse either. :)
House (2008)
Great movie
So I saw the movie House back in June at Ted Dekker's "Gathering".
To put it simply...it's a great movie. There is no cussing, sex, nudity, or gore (as in showing blood and guts and stuff).
People do die, but it is not graphic. It is rated R because of the intensity of the movie.
I would recommend everyone who is interested to come see it.
I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I hope that everyone makes sure to go see this movie on November 7th, to support Ted Dekker/Frank Peretti, and all the time and effort put into this film.
The reception this film receives will determine whether or not Ted's newest book, "Adam" becomes a major motion picture as well.
And I, personally, would love to see that happen. :)
Juno (2007)
Juno...not all it's cracked up to be.
Basic plot: 16-year-old has sex with another teen, and ends up getting pregnant. She decides to keep the kid, and put it up for adoption. -------------------------------------------------------------------
I watched this movie after hearing that it was nominated for several awards...only to be severely disappointed. There were hardly any truly funny parts worthy of laughing at, and the underlying message of the film, which seemed to be "we had sex...no biggie...oh...wait...maybe I actually love him!" made this a film I would never want my kids to see and be influenced by.
For those determined to watch this film, however, there are some cute moments, especially the sung ending, which make Juno slightly redeeming...not a movie worth watching, though, in my opinion.
