Hungry Dog Blues (2022)
Good for one watch
I was skeptical of the high rating here with only 50 ratings but I rented it on Prime video to see whats up. The movie is low budget, but it's a decent watch considering that. If you enjoy the crime genre, there is some decent suspense, decent acting, and some violence. I will say my opinion on the storyline is that it is somewhat disjointed. We're thrown right into the story with little background or context at the onset.
It felt to me as if there were too many pieces attempting to connect. It's not that I was confused by or didn't understand the story - it's a simple story. It's more that you get pieces along the way whereas in a full length feature (something more than 90 mins) you may get additional background or context.
All in all, it's a quick watch at around 75 mins, and I don't regret watching it. You can find more in the crime genre with bigger budgets, but this one certainly has a few scenes that are solid.
Masters of the Universe: Revelation (2021)
People hate reboots
Let's be clear: for everyone complaining, the only thing that would've satisfied them is essentially a shot-for-shot reboot of He-Man with updated animation. People tend to hate sequels, revamps and reboots because oftentimes the direction changes from the original. If you want to watch the old He-Man series, go watch that. If you want to watch something different, yet still invoking the spirit and nostalgia of the old cartoon, watch this. Could it have had more He-Man? Sure. But it also had much more character development than the original cartoon. Shows like this thrive in developing many characters and showing how they inevitably interconnect rather than focusing on one character with their sidekicks.
It Comes at Night (2017)
Such a rating change
I watched this back when it came out and, due to the mis-marketing, rated it a 6/10. Once I had seen it and knew what the film was about, I watched it again and am proud to say it is a 9/10 for me. Paranoia and atmosphere galore.
If you like slow-burn, psychological thrillers dripping with atmosphere, this is your kind of movie.
Lake Mungo (2008)
This is strictly a drama
Don't be fooled by any other reviews about this being "creepy". There is nothing tense, thrilling or creepy about this movie. It is a mockumentary about grief and loss. There is no element of horror or scariness here - unless you are scared by children's movies. The main reason I gave this a 5 is that it was promoted on Dreadit and is listed as a horror/thriller.
How It Ends (2018)
Not a 10/10, but definitely not a 5/10
I watched this in spite of all the bad reviews and do not feel the ending was too abrubt. I gave this a 7/10 because it was entertaining (especially being a Netflix original). Open-ended endings are just fine with me, and this reminded me a bit of The Rover in some ways. Not a bad one-time watch.
