Premonition (I) (2007)

Can Sandra Bullock act? This movie answers it for you...
16 March 2009
"Premonition" looked like just another suspense about precognition and all this things we're all tired of. But it's not. Why? Because it has Sandra Bullock. What a performance here! Creepy when the script asks for it, touching all all the way long and absolutely fascinating. Okay, maybe it's not just Sandra. The script is smart to run out of clichés and bring us a new look to this kind of supernatural happening. It's deep, somewhat easy to follow, but never conventional. For a suspense, "Premonition" has less scary moments then the average, smartly choosing to put the confidence in the cast and putting together a nice piece of movie about family, sadness, protection and misunderstanding. Mennan Yapo is not a great director, but can carry on the movie with no problems, giving space to Sandra shine more than the usual. It's the ultimate proof of her talent, a solid interpretation to a fascinating character. Now, let's wait for the next, this one is worthy to watch.

What a show by Robbins... One of my favorite movies!
13 March 2009
I wasn't expecting too much from "Arlington Road". I thought: OK, maybe a good thriller, but not a masterpiece. I'm proud to say that I was mistaken, and now "Arlington Road" is one of my favorite movies. First and above all, because of a outstanding actor called Tim Robbins. I don't have words too describe his performance here, it's strong and calm at the same time, a show by an actor who knows everything about acting. Maybe one of the best villains I've ever seen, his dialog with Jeff Bridges in the garden is just amazing! I didn't even believe it when I saw it. Since the day I've watched this movie, Tim Robbins acting is the greatest show on Earth for me. Anyway, besides him, "Arlington" has a solid script, that really has something to say, a correct direction e some great supporting cast. Joan Allen is creepy at its best, a wonderful performance. It's a shame that Jeff Bridges didn't represent well the fascinating role that he plays, but this is a minor flaw. "Arlington Road" is forever the show by Tim Robbins... and it's a devastating, outstanding, unforgettable piece of movie-making.

Everybody Hates Chris (2005–2009)

Chris Rock is funny even when he doesn't appear...
25 August 2008
One of the greatest humorists today, Chris Rock is grantee of great comedies even when he's just producer or, like in this case, a character.

"Everybody Hates Chris" is an acid comedy that plays with teenagers and family relationships, all with elegance and intelligent jokes. That's clearly the mark of Chris...

Anyway, the show tells the story of Chris (Tyles James Williams), a 12-16 (according to the season) boy who lives in Bedstie with his family: the scandalous mother Rochelle (Tichina Arnold), the hard-working father Julius (Terry Crews), younger brother Drew (Tequan Richmond) and annoying sister Tanya (Imani Hakim). He studies in a "white" school, and have to deal with Caruso (Trevis T. Flory), a boy who has a compulsion for beating young boys. His only friend is Greg (Vincent Martella) a trekker nerd.

Various situations come out on this plot, almost all of them creative and very funny, in his peculiar way. A show to be seen, be laughed, but maybe, to be forgotten. Unfortunelly.

Oliver Stone is great when divested of politic's preoccupation.
14 April 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Releasen with "United 93", this story shows the "emotive" side of the 11/09 tragedy.

In truth, the movie became surprising for his director: Oliver Stone ("Born on The Fourth of July"), usually very politically preoccupied. But now, he doesn't touch in the polemic matters! The script focus on a team of buried cops, gradually disbanded, until remaining just Sargent McLoughlin (Nic Cage, great) and Officer Jimeno (Michael Peña). The movie switch between the cops and their families, mainly the wives (Maggie Gyllenhaal & Maria Bello, both wonderful).

An emotive story, that shows the human and fragile side of that terrible thing that shook all world. Stone shows that without the politic preoccupations, he is a great director. Thank god he find out in time.

Don't Watch It !!
13 April 2008
Warning: Spoilers
This sequence, frankly, it's not even half of the first movie starred by Ashton Kutcher. The first one was really well-wrote and acted.

Here, the story repeats when Nick Larson (Eric Lively, poor) lost the girlfriend (Erica Durance, the Lois Lane from "Smallville") and a couple of friends in an accident and goes back to past to try to fix everything that happens on his life without destroy the future.

The worst fault is the slowness of the script, being long in each alternative reality. The insecure direction close the package, and the privation of creativity reigns.

If you like the first one, don't see it in any circumstance, if you hate it, don't see it and you will be saved from horrible film, and finally, if you don't see the first, don't see it and spend 1 hour and a half with something more useful.

Pure idiocy
9 April 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I've been fooled. Well, that "The Coroner and The Werewolf", so boasted because of the special effects equalized to Hollywood blockbusters doesn't have that much to offer.

The story simple & sincere: rich man dies and left his farm to the son (Diogo Villela), that accepts it, but is haunted by a werewolf that everybody thinks is Pernambuco Nogueira (Selton Mello), son of a dead employ that was created in the house.

The only thing that is worthwhile is the good Pedro Paulo Rangel in the character of a loyal protector of the coroner. The other acting are without emotions. Everything will be recompensed if the special effects were really good, but not even that! The only effects sequence is the last one in the court, and is nothing spectacular.

Another devastated hope in the Brazilian movies. I repeat: i've been fooled. And I ask: will you be fooled too?

"There was a time..."
7 April 2008
Warning: Spoilers
"Lucky Number Slevin" it's a movie to be reason, not only seen.

The plot demands of the spectator deductions of what is happening now or what happened in the past, while the director complicate the things with characters of fast talk.

That's the story: Slevin (Josh Hartnett) is in a occasion of misfortune (or not) go to a friend's house (or not) and is charged of a debt by two of the greatest crime leaders in NY: The Boss (Morgan Freeman), that recently lost his son, and The Rabbi (Ben Kingsley, excellent), man that The Boss thinks that is the responsible for the crime. The Boss says to Slevin kill The Rabbi's son for revenge, while Mr. Goodkat (Bruce Willis) was hired for the same service.

It doesn't matter if you pass all the movie without wink and find out the final surprise, the exceptional script will tie your attention, just like the pearls that the characters fire off. "There was time..."

Robin Williams back to fun!
3 April 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Robin Williams is back for what he do best: comedy! And, better than this, "RV" is a good "family" program.

That's the story: a family waits anxiously for a trip ho Hawaii when the chief of the father says that he must go to Colorado to do an introduction to a few undertakers that wants to unite with his business. So, Bob (Williams) decides to rent a trailer e take the road with the family to... Colorado!

In fact, the funny situations are not a lot, but the ones that are here entertain a lot! Besides the charismatic Williams, there is a good Josh Hutcherson post-"Zathura" in the character of Williams' son and the greats Jeff Daniels and Cheryl Hines as the patriarchs of another crazy family. The talented Barry Sonnenfeld had a right to his curriculum. Take the popcorn, laugh a lot and make good use of it!

The funniest show of all!
8 March 2008
It's one of my favorites TV series. A wonderful cast, great screenplay and a out siding plot.

Watching the routine of the Kyle family is grantee of great moments of humor and great comedy performers. Let's see: - Damon Wayans: no commentaries. He's one of the bests today. Se has a perfect timing and always get the point of the joke.

  • Tisha Campbell: Her's paranoid and sentimental Jay is just wonderful to see.

  • George O. Gore II: perfect for the paper. It's impossible to imagine someone else as the adorable (and dumb) Junior.

  • Jennifer Nicole Freeman: the egocentric Claire found the perfect actress. Beautiful & talented.

  • Parker McKeena Posey: impossible to not fall in love for her.

  • Noah Grey-Cabey: this boy have future, i'm sure of it.

I get very sad when it ends, but this show will be in my mind forever. Michael, Jay, Claire, Junior, Kadie... we love you!

Snipes in the right way
7 January 2008
In the movies dictionary, Wesley Snipes is synonym of... action and action, usually without much brain, but this is an exception. In spite of the title, that suggest a movie right in the style of the ex basket player, after the first half of the movie we perceive the difference: a very intelligent and well-weaved screenplay. Snipes play the CIA agent Sonni Griffith, that investigate the gun's traffic by a team that is owned by a millionaire (Tim Dutton), but everything gets wrong e he is placed in a guard mission of a woman (the beautiful Silvia Colloca), that recently find your dead husband and it's being persecuted by the same millionaire. The English Po Chih Leong deliver a correct direction, the final is a surprise, the movie satisfy, and Snipes, finally, is in the right way.

The Ant Bully (2006)

Funny... Nothing more
7 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Just like all the critics declared, this is the most inoffensive animation of a good crop. It's a little reduced if compared with the excellent "Happy Feet", for example, but still funny because of three characters: the crazy grandmother (Lily Tomlin voice), the optimist larva and the adventurer ant Fugax (Bruce Campbell). The story pass moral lesson by the history of Lucas(Zach Tyler), little boy that discharge your frustrations inundating a ant hill. But the ants reduce him to face him. When that happen, Lucas is delivered to a tutor (Julia Roberts, almost professional in dubbing) that teach him how to live in the ant's philosophy. Well-animated, this movie doesn't have much thing to give. But, if you really relax, you will have fun and, sometimes, this is only what matters.

Great!
7 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Marc Forster it's a versatile guy. After the drama "Monster's Ball", Forster directed the beautiful "Finding Neverland" and the inconceivable "Stay". But Forster improve yourself in "Stranger Than Fiction". Will Ferrell is great like Harold Crick, common and methodic man that starts to listen a stranger voice narrating his life (the most original idea of the decade). Helped by a literature teacher (Dustin Hoffman), he discover that her "authoress" is Karen Eiffel(Emma Thompson, fantastic), that is having a creative blockade (problem that is resolved by the "secretary" Queen Latifah) and always kill your main characters in the end. But Harold doesn't want to die now, because he finds the woman of his life (Maggie Gyllenhaal, great as always). What we see next is a screenplay lesson from master Zach Helm, and a directing lesson from Marc Forster. The philosophical end is just wonderful and all this results in a movie nothing less than perfect.
