The Condemned (2007)
The book seems to be a bit better ...
i read the book but haven't seen the movie. but i have read a lot of other comments and pretty much get the gist of it. things were explained a bit better in the book and the scenes with Sarah (Steve Austin's character's girlfriend) weren't as lame. plus the book didn't contain crappy camera techniques.
but i just cant get over the stupid ending.
is it absolutely necessary to kill a billion people off at the end? why did McStarley have to shoot everyone? WHY!? i thought it took away from his character. he had always seemed so composed whilst killing other people, taking in the thrill. but then, at the end, he just shoots everyone and i don't think it matched who McStarley is. i always thought of him as someone who killed people one at a time, taking his own sweet time and not just picking randoms and shooting them. and was it absolutely necessary to kill off Eddie and Bella? i know they weren't really the good guys - hell they seemed to enjoy watching the prisoners kill each other off - but i don't think they were so bad that they needed to be killed off. i would have liked to see them change their ways, put their talents to good use, etc. i liked them, OK? and i thought that the killing of that cameraman ... crap i forget his name ... the one who McStarley found disguised as a bush and shot ... anyway, i thought that was a bit weird. in the book he kept thinking about his wife and baby daughter and he just wanted to earn the money to help support them. and then they kill him off ... so what the hell was the point of the lame bits in which he thinks about his family? they could have let him survive somehow and go off an do something good for his family.
imagine how emotional the scene could have been with him returning home, not knowing if his wife knew what he had helped film, not knowing if she would let him in the house, but then being welcomed by her, receiving a nice big hug from her and his baby. but they killed him.
wow, how original ... everyone got shot!
i think they avoided a lot of emotional scenes, choosing violence over, you know, a proper story. they could have given some of the people they killed off some really good quality endings. but no. they just shot them.
and even though they killed a billion people off instead of giving them nice, good quality endings, i still enjoyed reading the book for some reason. i just wish that instead of jack Conrad (Steve Austin) having the main/only happy ending, other people could have survived and cleaned their act up.
Bratz Rock Angelz (2005)
Not Right For Young Girls?
i think i had my expectations set a little too high for this movie. i assumed it would have a sensible plot line and maybe even just the teeniest tiniest bit of character development. but it just wasn't meant to be. instead of going through the plot ( which is totally lame anyway ) i'll point out the flaws.
1. the way they talk. most teenagers don't talk like that. and anyone who does deserves to be stoned to death. also i think it might be hard for some little girls to understand. my cousin, who is seven, got very confused and even a little annoyed after hearing words like ' funkalicious ' or ' punkalicious ' whatever the heck it was.
2. the way they dress. what parent would let their daughter dress the way the bratz do!? my parents would disown me if i walked around in such tiny things! should we really be letting young girls watch other girls prance around in such tacky clothes?
3. the way they look. the big heads, the fish lips, the hooker make-up, the tiny waist, massive feet. seriously wtf!? it sounds like i'm describing an alien. they really do look freaky in the movie but i must admit i actually think the dolls look quite nice.
4. the way they think. when the ' tweevils 'steal the concert tickets the bratz decide that the best way to get in without tickets is to suddenly form a rock band with clothes taking priority over practice, getting instruments, etc.
i think maybe the bratz girls are into things that most little girls aren't interested in.
