Not too bad really
18 April 2023
A family of petty thieves from South London decamp to Spain to profit from an unexpected windfall.

I went into this viewing following checking the reviews on here, but I wanted to give this latest series of Love's a chance.

Glad I did, it's not as bad as people here have said, granted it's not academy award worthy, but it is worth watching.

The 80s music soundtrack is it's strength, along with some good acting, especially from, Flemyng, and, Sharif.

Watch it, and enjoy, as said, it's not as bad as you make think, and that's why I have cast my rating as a solid 7 stars out of ten.

If you loved the 80's, you'll like this more.

This film deserves better that the rating on here
21 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Craig in the lead role of this film was perfect from the off, with a solid story, great case, and acting, you really get drawn into the plot, and share the betrayal what happens to Eddie Franks.

Eddie really did want to start fresh after spending a Decade of his life inside, had good intentions, only to be drawn back into crime due to his brother, letting down those who he he truly loved, including his grandchild.

Don't let the rating on here of this film put your off, its well worth renting the DVD or watch via Netflix etc. You won't be disappointed.

Unknown cast, Surprisingly good performances, and almost solid story/plot
4 December 2012
I first heard about the making of this film back in 2009, and was under the impression it was going to be yet another low budget, displeasing film based on the overkilled already filmed stories of drug lords, but how wrong was I?

OK, there are plot holes, and a mismatch of soundtrack, and sound effects, but bloody hell, this film actually exceeded my expectations personally.

What I cannot understand is why are there so many talented actors, and actresses in this film that I have not seen or heard of before? There are also veteran actors, and actresses cast in this film who are equally as impressive, many, outstanding performances.

How can a film like this go under the radar for so long, and why was there such a long time between the film being shot, and then reaching DVD? Almost three years!

One has to wonder if there were legal things going on, or if it were a case of Hollywood trying to restrict the producers, writers etc.

If anyone from the film, be it, writer, actor, actress, director, who wishes to shed more light on these questions above, please feel free to contact me, or post a reply here. It would be greatly appreciated.

Phone credit
2 November 2012
Warning: Spoilers
As much as I looked forward to watching this, I was shocked that there was no mention about his calling credit.

I myself struggle to put calling credit on my phone.

Sometimes, I go a month or two without any calling credit at all, and while I do get credit, its only due to my mother feeling sorry for me.

So my question is, how can this guy, go out there, unarmed, and unprepared, survive without calling credit on his phone.

As asked above, how would this individual manage without any calling credit, or the land-line he is reliant on.?

I feel that the whole DVD and film is a fares, and that there are people out there that need more exposure! Period!

The details matter
3 September 2012
OK, great concept of a film, no denying that, but even with the occasional good actors thrown in, there are small details that ruin it in my personal opinion.

Lets take the moment at around 21 minutes into the film...

Massive guy struggles to light his cigar...

Have the film crew never heard of cigar cutters?

Prior to that, the mob would not even entertain meeting a nobody in public, period, not to mention have the patients of a saint to listen to so called nobody. They always want proof of tale, not to mention proof of who is talking to that, a pat down is not enough to tell if someone is wired for example.

Im halfway through the film as I write this, so will add more as and when I can. If you want that is?

Almost as good as Lock Stock, and two smoking barrels
3 September 2012
This film had so so much potential, but the bloody music, especially the starting credit music really dampened everything.

If the soundtrack was more upbeat then yes, this film could of been right up there with LSTSB.

Ray did a grand job, and is a lucky sod too having of had the pleasure of kissing the lovely, Louise I may add.

It was also great being a time warp film and seeing some great old classic cars.

Don't get me wrong, this film has it's flaws, but the story holds up, and keeps you interested. No switching off half way through with this flick.

Overall, good entertainment with a few beers. Buy, rent, enjoy!

Great British film making
27 November 2010
This film to me personally was a little bit of a surprise to say the least, I was recommended the film by a friend, who said to me its worth watching, and as a film critic, I put aside some time to give it a viewing.

I was not disappointed either, with the film starting out somewhat a little confusing, and uncomfortable at first, it soon dawns upon you that this is no ordinary kidnapping. I won't release any spoilers here, but will advise you to watch the film with an open mind, and frame of mind as there are some surprises that even I didn't see coming.

The plot thickens, and the film has you guessing along the way which to me is what film making is all about. Watch it, and enjoy, I'm sure you will know the actor who plays Vic, he is an underestimated actor, who shines in this film.!

If you hate cold callers, God preachers, avoid this film!!
21 November 2010
I was very surprised to find out the hard way that this film is pretty much cold calling, but in the way you sit down on a weekend with a few snacks, get comfortable, only to be subjected to the one thing we all hate, and that being cold calling, people knocking your front door at a weekend trying to preach god to you.

Thats what this film is all about, preaching god to you, and trying to get you to believe in god blah blah blah. I am annoyed that this kind of film is allowed in the main-stream, and that such a film can be put upon so many innocent viewers.

I'm an Atheist, so as that tells you, I do not believe in God, and anyone who does has obviously fallen prey to years old prophecy, dating back many a year, something for beings to believe in as there was nothing else. Life is life, life is survival, period, there is no god, and if there were, why the suffering around the world? Answer me that.?

One of the Best Zombie films out there!
14 November 2010
Warning: Spoilers
OK, lets be clear about something here, I am in no way what so ever into Zombie films, and usually avoid them like the plague, but having been tipped off about this French pearl of a film, I owed it to my source to at least proof-view it for her.

This film, although of course in French, dubbed in English, I would first of all like to applaud the cast, director, camera, and makeup staff who worked on this film, as well as the translators, and voice over staff who did an amazing job of bringing the atmospheric feelings to the viewer just how the director aimed to entertain the French viewers.

Right from the start, this film keeps you wondering, how on earth are these people going to survive, both criminal gang land Nigerian guys, and police staff have to pair up to survive this onslaught, and what an onslaught it is too.

If you like the likes of Resident Evil, and the blowing of heads off as the only way to put a Zombie down, then you will like this film, as it goes as far as it budget allows, and does it well with plenty of blood, gore, guts, and superb atmospheric endeavors, putting you right there in the action of a world of dead zombies, starving, trying to eat you alive.

I won't say any more, as I don't wish to add any spoilers here, but as said earlier, if you like your zombie films, then you will love this pearl of a Film, Cudos to the whole team behind this film, location, actors/actresses, and dress, makeup, the whole 9 yards, I applaud this film.!

Great film, true survival facts, but oh dear
6 November 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Well, this film had me wondering at first, but then given the survival tactics which Im aware of having worked with special forces, everything was dandy, the suspense was there, the survival tactics were correct, and the suspense was there.

Everything was going swimmingly throughout the film, even the hallucinations were realistic, and applauded, but the end of the film, what was all that about.?!? It really let the whole thing down in my opinion, and I have been on set with many a film, and was completely stumped at the ending of this film.

If more time was spent on the story, especially the ending, this film could of ranked so so much higher.!

Hal at his best
28 September 2010
What a film.! Anyone who has experienced elderly members of the family being stubborn, or old fashioned without obvious reason, then this film will ring true.

Although members of our family/community age, and reach the final stages of their life does not make them an outcast, it does not make them less worthy of ourselves.

This film make the valid point that, yes, life does indeed go on, but at the same time, memories still live too, and if someone is still breathing the free air we all breath today, then they are still entitled to live out their life, and spend their living days how they see fit.

Without spoiling this film, or should I say without giving out any spoilers, basically, if you have come to that stage in your life where you have had to make the very difficult decision to put your mother, or father in a care home, watch this film.! Although your father, or mother maybe aging, and to you, look somewhat out of control, they are now, you should be listening to them more carefully, even muffled speech, of rambled they may sound, listen to them, memories live on.

This film is all about pride, being faithful to ones past, mistakes, and choices. One may make path to their own siblings which gives them the job of good fortune, but at the same time, they question you when your old, and in many peoples eyes "Past it". This film opens the eyes of the unforgiving.!

I cried watching this film, and Im 40 years young. Maybe I related to this film more than most, but at the same time, I had to write about this film, and how it impacted myself alone.

Enjoy, its a great piece of film making, and Hal, is at his best in this. We all remember him from his earlier pieces, usually in a courtroom.

Dog Pound (2010)

American version of UK film Scum
4 September 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Having just finished watching this film "Dog Pound", it was clear to me right from the start the similarities to the UK film, "Scum", and were confirmed when the rape scene was shown, and the aftermath shortly after with the raped guy killing himself after repeatedly trying to call for help via the internal alarm messaging system.

All in all though, even though this is clearly copying "Scum", its not too bad of a copy, although it doesn't pack the dirty punch in which Scum brought to the table.

Differences from Scum in Dog Pound..

Scum

Pool Balls in sock Rape scene in greenhouse Suicide in isolated cell

Dog pound

Large steel drinking mug Rape scene in laundry room Suicide in Dorm

There were many other similarities, but I think I have revealed more than enough spoilers for now, but one thing I would say, is even if you have read my review, still watch this film, and the characters/actors do a very good job with their roles.

Awful
19 July 2010
I don't know what the previous viewer was watching, and writing about, but it certainly wasn't anything to do with this poor show of a film.

This film to me personally was a complete waste of time, and I wish to have the wasted time back of my life that I wasted watching this poor, poor film.

I watched the beginning, thinking, OK, keep open minded, its a storytelling kind of film, and hoped that things would make sense, but to me, and my intellect, which I would say is above average as a film critic, I hoped the story would materialize, but it failed on every possible count. I found myself shaking my head in disbelief almost all the way through this film.

The two known actors in the film obviously did not read their scripts fully Im sure, and were possibly under the impression that this film was going to be big, but with poor special effect, and embarrassing CGI, the whole thing was awful.

If your into fighting films, forget it, the moves were something you would fine in a home movie.

Terrible film, which solely relied on music to help, and the sound track was way off too.

Genius
20 March 2010
This film is a stroke of Genius, and is a welcomed breath of fresh air film making, using sound, and image effects to physiologically put you deep into the film's atmosphere.

When watching this film, its recommended to watch it from start to finish without any breaks, yes, that includes popping out for a smoke.

Amazing piece of work, with great casting, direction, and story, one that Im sure many hard working class people will relate to in one form or another.!

I personally felt that this film could of gone on much longer too, and when the end arrived, I was quite sad that this great film came to an end, and left me outside the atmosphere I was consumed within the plot.

Body of Lies (2008)

Under estimated, powerful film
7 February 2009
Having watched "Body of Lies" last night, I really didn't know what to expect, knowing very little about the film prior to sitting down to watch it.

I found that not only the storyline is a valid, and creditable one, but the performances from all actors, and actresses were equally as powerful.

From great technologies, to special effects, this film has been done very well, and not your run of the mill shoot them up, or Terrorist movie, you actually learn something from this film as it goes deep into the undercover operations which really never hit the media front.

Thumbs up, superb movie, I recommend everyone to watch this film. Over two hours long too, is in my mind, not long enough, but was happy with the ending.

Not too bad a film, certainly not the worst I've seen
18 January 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Having watched this film last night, it started off at a pace detailing the background, and character build of Michael, an ex Navy Seal, and what he had been through.

Five years on from what happened in North Korea, his past comes back to haunt him, in a peculiar twist of events, which even now having watched the film, still cannot understand, how, and why.

Not too bad a film, some good fighting sequences, but overall, plot, storyline, and acting are quite poor, although, as said, the fighting sequences are what make this film, but thats about it. So if you like martial arts, then this film maybe for you, but don't get your hopes up on a great ending. I was kind of deflated when I realized the film neared its end.

August Rush (2007)

Tears of joy, and not ashamed to admit it.!
14 November 2008
Now I have composed myself, Im ready to leave a comment after watching this great film "August Rush" Im a married man of 38, and not ashamed to say, this film brought me to tears, not tears of sadness, but tears of joy.! I actually sobbed at the end. This film really struck a chord in my soul. Great storyline, yes, you need an creative imagination, but that's what makes the wonder of a movie. Just let yourself go, and follow the path of this great storyline, be it completely off beat, and far from the norm in the respect of films of late, what we are lead to be the norm. Let your heart open. If you are a true music fan, musician, or even love soundtracks in the sense of Instrumentals, then this film will be a hit with you.

No film, in years of my life have touched me the way this film has, how has this film gone under the radar for so long? Watch it, and enjoy!
