Like Watching Paint Dry

I'm glad I didn't spend money in a theater to see this movie. It is way to slow moving and drawn out.

After watching this I can now say with certainty which one of Kevin Costner's movies is the worst.

I have a hard time believing some of the high ratings this movie garnered. Honestly the scenes were drawn out and there were times I wanted to hit the fast forward. I'd wonder what Costner thinks of his performance in this movie. He didn't have a lot of lines for as good an actor as he is.

The scenery in the movie was good but the pace at which things progressed made it a chore to watch. Next time I start watching a bad movie I won't fight the urge to turn it off.

Major disappointment at 30 minutes
17 April 2022
I can't believe people are giving this high ratings. The first 15 I couldn't see a thing and out of 30 minutes I doubt daylight lasted more than 4 minutes.

I tried to like this movie I really did.

OK, we start out with the star of the movie doing penance out on the lonely range. He has an envelope in his boot that he removes, looks at and puts back in his boot. Guess he doesn't know how to read.

Now the whole town knows what sacred trust he violated but 40 minutes into the movie we the audience have no idea what it is.

After arriving in his home town we realize that he "Has to find himself". That was it for me. A whole town knows but we don't.

Like watching paint dry

I have tried 3 times over the years to watch this movie and just can't do it. The farthest I've made it is 45 minutes, it's to boring. This time I was home sick with a bad cold and thought I could get further into the movie. Not a chance.

Seems to have a decent plot and a good cast but there is just something lacking.

There's a reason I don't watch these old movies

Warning: Spoilers
Back when this movie was made it probably was considered a good movie. And Bogart's acting wasn't all that bad for the period. But I find a lot of the movies from this time period are to corny for me to watch.

From the time of the murder I found the acting to corny and could only laugh at most of the scenes. And Bogy folds like a cheap suit from then on. But, this was called acting back in that time period.

Decent Movie But the Bad Acting is a Killer
30 June 2020
The movie wasn't bad and had a good story. The characters all played good parts except for Ginger Rogers, I don't think she could act her way out of a paper bag. The pouty face though the movie made me realize how lucky we are that acting has gotten better in modern movies.

The Big Nothing

I watched all of season 1 because of the great reviews. Is it me? The series wanders around aimlessly and it seems nothing happens. To me it seems like a soap opera but only on once a week.

Thought I was nuts but filtered on 1 star and found a bunch. This means I'm not crazy!

AMC wisely cancelled this series after season 2, a good decision on their part. I tried to like the series but it reminded me of a sign in a bar that says "Free beer tomorrow". Every episode I watched just left me asking myself why I watched it.

Anyway, I tried the first season and won't even watch the second. Nothing seems to happen in this series but it just rambles on.

I tried to watch it, I really did.

I sat down and watched 40 min of this movie when I finally got sick of it. Is there a written law that in this type of movie a firearm is not allowed to kill an alien? Happens in every one of these movies, every time. Could someone do a movie like this where firearms can kill an alien?

Atom bombs are useless too as well as any type of man made weapon. Maybe someone will do a move of this genre and break the mold some day. I'm waiting for it.

A Worthwhile Comedy
9 May 2018
I can't understand the bad reviews for this movie. It's a comedy for Pete's sake, not some great work of art. The story was original and there were some good laughs during it's length. Many of the scenes were well played and the adventures they have are believable. I also felt all the characters pulled off their parts quite well.

Great Comedy!

Warning: Spoilers
I somehow subjected myself to 20 minutes of this trash movie. How many of these garbage "women" movies can they make? All the same, every time. Sure Karen's daughter is raped and killed which luckily I missed.

But as usual the criminal is caught and just when the conviction looks immanent it's the same old "Oh oh, we forgot to dot an i on this court document" and the guilty go free.

The only thing that could save this movie in my opinion is if the guilty party were to rape and kill Karen (Sally Field) later in the movie. Think about it, an ending different then all the other carbon copies of this movie.

I'd bet this has been shown on "The Women's Channel" a million times by now.

137 Minutes of my life I'll never get back
18 December 2016
Possibly one of the most boring movies I've ever seen. The main character was so bad I kept hoping someone would kill him so the movie could end. This movie was way to long and was pointless. It's an example of "I will never change and be normal". I'm still trying to figure out how it got such a high rating. The flashbacks weren't that great, the plot was awful and the story boring. And yet people liked it, I have no idea why. If you only have 137 minutes to live watch this, it will seem like an eternity.

The main character is a loner and is flawed in an environment of others. You start to realize this in about 20 minutes. Guess I'm the odd man out on this movie as there are a lot of good reviews. There were so many better movies at the theater that I'm disappointed in myself for picking this one. I was actually afraid it wasn't going to end.

Why a high rating????
27 November 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not a movie critic but I do watch movies. And I know what I like and dislike. How this movie got a high rating is beyond me?? I tried my best and managed to sit through 30 minutes before giving up. Maybe there's blood and action somewhere but it was a boring 30 minutes to me.

When I movie can't catch my interest in 30 minutes it usually isn't going to ever catch my interest.

After reading the reviews I see there are others that share my opinion. I actually laughed when I saw the length at 140 minutes. There may have been 110 more boring minutes I didn't see.

One of the most original movies I've seen in years
8 May 2008
Being older I've found that many times we end up watching the same plot over and over in remakes. This movie was totally different then any I've ever seen to date. I won't spoil the movie by saying much but it kept me guessing whodunit.

The movie had it's share of comedy with Nigel Bruce and moved along at a good pace. This is probably the best of the Sherlock Holmes series by Rathbone and Bruce.

Let no one ruin the ending for you and watch it, I think you'll like it. For a low budget movie it won't let you down. How I survived this long without ever seeing it at least once is amazing.

True Confessions
4 May 2008
Easily one of the 10 most boring movies I've ever seen. The difference between watching this film and paint drying is that watching paint dry is more exciting.

How I ever managed to sit thru 65 minutes before turning it off amazes me. But I kept hoping it would get better, unfortunately it didn't. With all the stars in this film I just kept hoping. I'm having a hard time believing the other comments about this movie as I'm not hard to please with a movie.

This is a perfect example of how a great cast can't even help a bad movie.

Thinking of renting this title? Pass, you'll find something better on cable.
