Stuck in the middle
18 April 2007
A uneven day in a mundane café.Everyone brought his own problems into the scene. And suddenly all the problems were solved just before the credit started rolling.I have no problem with happy ending. But this movie seems so trivial and unfocused. It's not trite, and not subversive also.Just sort of stuck in the middle, the director intended to try something new and just fell by the wayside.Although there are so many characters, each in a different quandary, but there is no one we can really relate to or even makes us feel a little bit resonant.Mena Suvari is still edgy and smarting.Katherine Heigl grabbed the chance to play a totally different character during the hiatus.Callum Blue is once again a sleazy but enchanting lover.Jules Leyser did a good work portraying the canny but vulnerable,soon-bride-to-be,lawyer.But none of these cameos left any impression for you to consider what if you were in his/her shoes.

Art School Confidential....
31 March 2007
After breaking into a elitist Spartan style art school Tyler, the dancer version of Eninem, has to make a choice between mop to death or dance to death.Mop to death, because of the social service conviction.Dance to death, because some dude just accidentally coincidentally twist his ankle.Which ever his choice may be,one thing is for sure,he can't avoid the destiny of dry jokes and lame lines. The problem of this flick is the story had been told before, over and over. You knew how it is gonna end right at the 15th minute of the movie. The only surprise may be that someone's little brother got shot for a surprisingly lame reason.

It's a stereotypical YA soap drama.Bubbles and sparks are everywhere.I think Channing Tatum is a terrific dancer and a talented young actor also. But there is always a awkward, embarrassed, smile on his face that starts, falters, and begins again as if he is fighting so hard in both releasing and ceasing the expression.Considered it an euphemism for "poker face."

Every piece is a riddle.....
31 March 2007
A group of strangers waked up in the middle of no where. With no name,no identity and no memories. The awkward situation pushed them into a kind of bizarre symbiosis. They have to work together to figure out a way to escape and improvise their next move based on their limited recurrent memories.Sounds like a unique and mind-blowing set-up,but the flick never really reached its expectation.

Matthew Waynee did put some surprising twist at the end of the movie, but since some of the characters are not built-up through the whole movie.I didn't pick up any crumbs along the journey,if there is any.In the end the identity revealing session is just like a teacher's roll calling. You,you, and you should play the bad guys. And nobody should break the rules,my stick would see to it.

Ben Affleck can act !!!
26 March 2007
I watched this film because of Caroline Dhavernas and was surprised to find out that all the critical kudos for Ben Affleck's performance are true.He can not only act but also has what it takes to nail down a complicated role. It's a shame that he got stuck in all those schlock characters for so long.

TV veteran director Paul Bernbaum did an excellent work. Some of the characters are not well-built,but all the wonderful cast did make them seems cogent. It's a little bit too much details without a panorama. While Adrien Brody is working on every theory he got,we audience didn't quite catch the clue he is collecting and fitting.

Another piece of love
25 March 2007
Allow me to quote the tagline of "All the Real Girls."

"Love is a puzzle. These are the pieces."

London is not a drug flick as it promoted,it's a flick about relationships and the people in them.

Jason Statham just turns every movie he stars in into an action movie.Actually,he can do a lot more than just kicking asses.Jessica Biel is by far the most amazing young actress in the industry. She isn't really that beautiful as the other Jessicas. But when she put on the outfit and the make-up,she can convert any seductress into an redoubtable figure.

Hunter Richards did quite a good work with his own script.Although some of the dialogues are too trivial and frivolous. It's an ordinary flick with a gimmick.Hollowed, but hallowed.

easy Comedy with touching plot
10 June 2004
First of all, since the director is Herman Yau.We can't asking him to provide us a movie with tensely story telling or precisely camera filming skill. But after all, Herman Yau do make good movies.Just because he always paying really attention to the TOPIC that he really cares. His script is always easy and even sometimes a little bored. But he do under those character which he is filming. He just simply telling a story with wholehearted. Nothing more , nothing less.

Actually, this movie " Herbal Tea " is a typical of the HK movie style. Small funds, second-line Actress and Actors, easy script ,and little advertisement. Some people might have watched it but simply forget it in a short time. But some people(including me) will find a lot of interests in this lovely comedy. The character is lovely, especially the cuddly CANDY LO. She must be the most underestimated actress in Hk.She acts well,it's a shame that she didn't participate any other first-class funds movie. Candy Lo showed an amazing comedy-talent in Her recent most well-known movie " Truth and Dare. " In the " Herbal Tea ", she keep her funny performance and bring us more than that.We could easily find that Candy is extraordinary in this character. A girl with kind heart who helps her neighborhood all around.Yeah.. a little platitude, isn't it? But Candy's performance will convince you that there is a girl who really care about all the people around her . And even she helps them a lot even sometimes forget her own business, but she'll also do the best to keep herself living happily.

This movie got an easy outline. But the inner thought are sometimes really touching.Just because you can easily find out that Director Herman Yau's filming skill is always mediocre, and even sometimes too stubborn. So you will probably watch this movie just as other soap-opera.But Herman Yau do make many cherish elements in this lovely movie.Everything just been told directly, the character are nothing but small people. They laugh,They cry, just like anybody does. When they got special feeling about each other.Instead of taking script -crap steps ,they'll just simply show it.Many movie intend to do such kind of aura, but only a few one could make such decent work like Herman Yau did. It's not flawless but those flaw in the movie could show us what a director can do without Sparking film skill and shining stars.

It's not that good. But not that bad either. If you are in fond of Candy Lo or Jordan Chen just like me, you'll probably enjoy this movie.Their character are both really lovely. Not because of the screenwriter's ability ,it's the story and the acts make me feel so.
