Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (1964)
"Mr Willy Wonka has done it!" - Grandpa Joe
Deliciously dark and funny! Every "nasty" child is almost the embodiment of their flaw while Charlie, a poor boy who by a miracle finds a golden ticket, is described perfectly for you to imagine a clear picture of the character or place. I also highly recommend buying this book with the Quentin Blake illustrations which, I know I'm saying it for the second time, perfectly matches the description of the character. And of course I have to bring up the main star, the chocolate extraordinary, Willy Wonka! He is magical but the more you think about him, the more sinister and eerie he becomes. Then you see the Oompa-Loompas, the singing men who came from the horrible Loompa-Land! Just like Willy Wonka, they seem enigmatic and magical but when you think about them for a long time, their lyrics to their not-so-cheerful songs show the true side of the Oompa-Loompas. They are not just fun and games! I rate the book 10 out of 10 stars!
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
Golden Ticket to Wonka's Best Movie Ever!
Starring Johnny Depp, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is about a sweet poor boy called Charlie who wins a golden ticket to the tour of the most famous chocolate factory. At the End, Willy Wonka, the owner of the chocolate factory, makes up with his dad and gives Charlie his giant chocolate factory. This film was so much better than the Gene Wilder film. Johnny Depp and Willy Wonka go hand in hand together, making Depp's performance pitch perfect. The only I didn't really like was Wonka's backstory. I know it adds a sweet touch to the dark film but it just because it adds some story to the quite short book. Besides that, the film is in my top 10 best films. I Recommended it for 4 and up.
Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971)
Pure Destruction of a Classic Story
"Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" is a cult classic but a disgrace to the original book by Roald Dahl. Firstly, Roald Dahl did not write the screenplay, well, he did write it but it was edited a lot. When the film released, Roald Dahl absolutely hated it. Secondly, Gene Wilder's Wonka is so different from the Book Wonka. Wilder Wonka is quite soft-spoken for most of the film and hates bratty-like children while Book Wonka is a child-loving elder who is unpredictably loud and magical. Thirdly, the 4 spoiled kids are never shown coming out of the factory, maybe meaning the kids were made into chocolate and sweets. And lastly, Grandpa Joe is mean and told Charlie to "take a sip" of the fizzy lifting drinks, making Charlie lose his prize. This movie would have been better as a original movie without any of the "Wonka" or "Oompa-Loompa" branding.
