Making Monsters (2019)
Lame
The commercial looked kind of fun, but don't let that fool you.
The characters weren't really likeable; the main couple seemed to even not like each other. So, it's kind of no big deal who lives and dies.
The David not being David twist was immediately apparent. And when the villain tried to be scary, he just sounded like a tool bag.
The pacing in this movie fell off after the first 15 minutes and never recovered.
The supernatural element was weird and irrelevant.
In terms of substance, this was a few steps back to the straight up torture p*rn of the early 2000s.
Better movies with similar concepts that automatically come to mind: Creep (2014), The Den (2013)
Destroy All Neighbors (2024)
Wanted to like it.
This movie was a waste of time. I had to fast-forward watch it. Despite enjoying Alex Winter in a ton of grotesque prosthetics, this movie had nothing to offer:
-No character development
-No likeable characters
-No great music (which was supposed to be the whole point)
-No interesting plot points
-No consistent logic (Were they ghosts or not? Some people could see them; some couldn't.)
Mostly, I didn't understand how this was stretched to a full-length feature. It had 30 minutes of actual content - tops. It would have made a passable Creepshow episode at best.
To be fair, the scene with Kumail Nanjiani's cameo was hilarious. But it's the only part I enjoyed.
I didn't turn it off. So, maybe it's not a total 1-star dumpster fire, but I needed to do something to offset all these fake 7s.
