Stop Making Sense (1984)
Stop saying it´s a concert...
Stop saying is a concert, stop saying is a documentary. It just don´t make any sense. Stop Making Sense is a Film, with actors. The actors are the group, but they are not performing for an audience live, they are acting for the camera. If you look closely you can see that sound and vision were recorded in a different session. When the band is playing, they are doing what is in the script. Another detail, Have you ever seen a human being singing, running and playing guitar for more than an hour non stop? I have to say that it is a beautiful work, a masterpiece, a legacy from Talking Heads and J. Demme. But it is not a concert... sorry to tell you.
De la calle (2001)
Like in every Big City in the world, there´s children living in the streets of Mexico
This is a film that use poverty to shock. Children that live in the streets of Mexico, of course that´s a hard life, but that´s not enough for a movie. The story is very simple, but there´s not the problem, the first role actors are not credible, you can not feel any passion. Many years ago there was a Director who made a film of children living in the streets of Mexico, his name: Buñuel, the film "Los olvidados". You can see the difference, and you can understand why a film needs a director.
Irréversible (2002)
One ordinary day, gets to be not so ordinary.
There´s lot of interesting things in it, one great actor (Cassel), one beautiful woman (Monica Belucci) and very strong images. The next move would be to take all those good things and make a movie. There´s everything to make a good one.
El Topo (1970)
Long trip, born, death, rebirth, death...
It´s all about primal religion enveloped in to the christian myth. Masterpiece in a pictorical way too. This is not Buñuel but is may be the nearest. The crazy images of death, desert and uncommon characters are now part of the way we see horror. May not many people have seen this film but lot of now great directors have.
