Gun Shy (2017)

I came to this movie out of curiosity and finished it happy

Warning: Spoilers
C'mon, man! Look at that cast list and plot summary, go on, look at it! Try to imagine what you should expect. Then turn all of that on its head. This was actually a fun movie to watch, it was a good blend of physical and dialog comedy, and the characters were believable.

I became an Antonio Banderas fan when I saw Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown some 30 years ago (and with his succeeding action movies) and a David Mitchell fan some 20 years ago listening to Mitchell and Webb, and I couldn't imagine what sort of movie would bring them together. Sure, they didn't exactly share a scene together, but the storyline tied their characters via proxy and it worked perfectly, at least I believed it did! Coupled with each character's stream of one-liners and the visual gags, it was a fun and completely underrated movie, in my opinion. It's definitely not a Hollywood movie, and I'm thankful for that! More, please!

Lucifer (2016–2021)
9/10
Netflix, thank you for bringing this amazing series to me!

Warning: Spoilers
I started bingeing on Lucifer when I recognised Tom Ellis in the thumbnail, thought I'd never see him on tele again after he left the UK. Anyway, I'm loving it! The characters are fun, they evolve over multi-episode arcs, and the dialogue is amazing for an American production -- good dialogue comedy, and I don't have to increase the playback speed to stop me getting bored listening to it. I'm on S03E05 right now, and saw a tiny detail that impressed me even more: Charlotte Richards' trigger control. She was swinging a 1911 pistol round but kept her finger off the trigger, which is something you rarely see in a Hollywood production. It showed me that the actress playing Charlotte really cares about playing her character in an ethical way. Thank you so much to the show runners, actors, and production team (AND Netflix!!) for doing an amazing job!!

The Raven (2007 TV Movie)
3/10
TV (non)Mystery movie
18 December 2009
There was so much affectation in the acting and accents, I honestly couldn't wait for 'The Raven' to dispatch each of the characters. Why were these South African actors given an Australian dialogue coach to help them deliver English 'toff' accents? And I swear I heard a Welsh accent early on, why was it needed? It all kept me asking 'who are these people, why do they all seem to hate each other, and why are they having a party together? Were the disparate accents part of a master plan for a major international incident (with an end shot of The Raven stroking a fluffy white cat)?' The movie kept getting in the way of its story, and I lost interest pretty quickly. It wasn't fair to Poe's original story, but then there really wasn't much of the original Poe's 'The Raven' actually in this story, only nods and suggestions -- actually it may be closer to 'Mask of the Red Death', if anything. Oh, why was it called 'The Raven' then? I'll end with the sound of my toe tap, tap, tapping and think of this movie NEVERMORE.
