Final Destination 2 (2003)
The scariest thing was the writing.
Like many sequels, Final Destination 2 didn't come close to the first. The way the movie was shot and the death scenes were really good, and had a lot of potential. But the writing, I could barely stand it. There were many times the dialogue didn't flow at all. A few scenes I wondered if the director was even there to tell them to do another take. If only the movie had a better writer, or better actors to deliver the lines that were halfway good it would have been so much better.
Life as a House (2001)
Felt like a TV movie.
I usually don't watch these kinds of movies, I'm definitely not their target audience. But Hayden Christensen was so good as Anakin, we had to rent this movie. There was one thing I didn't like about this movie.
***Somewhat of a SPOILER***
I didn't like how Sam was "bad" when he wore makeup, listened to Marilyn Manson, and had piercings. And when he was "good" be looked completely normal. I think the movie would've been better to have the parents grow as well, realizing that makeup and blue hair means NOTHING about your kid...it could've just as likely been a "jock" acting the same way as Sam. I think it helps perpetuate the "prejudice" against people who dress like that, who aren't doing drugs or anything bad. Not all of them do. Some people just like it and it has nothing to do with what kind of person they are.
Jeepers Creepers (2001)
A lot of possibilities, too bad they didn't go after any of them.
The story, other than getting away from the monster, wasn't very good. There were many chances to go deeper into the story, but it never went past the surface. Ever. Who was the monster? We know absolutely nothing about him. We were teased a little with the background of the two main characters, but did it ever go into it more than that? Nope. It may be leaving openings for sequels, but they could've done a little better. I guess if you don't want to think, just sit there and absorb a simple story then it's okay. Most people want more than that. At least I hope.
A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)
Dragged at the end, but still good.
I really liked this movie, though I expected it to end about 20-30 minutes earlier than it actually did. Once you see it I'm sure you'll know what I'm talking about, so I won't say exactly. In my opinion, it should've ended sooner, because the most complaints I've ever heard about this movie was the long, slow ending. But it's still a great movie other than that.
Mulholland Dr. (2001)
There really are directors that know some people like to think.
This is one of my favorite movies. And it was such a relief that I didn't just have to sit through a movie that handed everything to you. It's so fun to figure things out on my own, I love movies like this. It didn't really hit me as a really great movie (in my opinion) while watching it because the style wasn't what I usually fall in love with (Like Tim Burton's movies, or From Hell, the dark 18th/19th century stuff). Immediately after watching it I was completely lost. And then I realized one key thing, one simple word that I thought about but then forgot, and everything suddenly fell into place. I was so grateful for the ending *not* being one of those that explain everything in 30 seconds. It gives you the story and you have to figure out what it means and what happened. It kind of puts you in the same position as the character in the movie who also has to figure it out.
