Crew (2024)
flush crew
Watch it at your own risk. And if you want to learn how to get a headache. Worst movie of 2024. And in my list of worst-ever movies.
An impressive cast ensemble wasted. Frankly. Can't see why they signed up for this trash.
The classic song choli ke peeche in its redux avatar is lacking in lustre or should i say lacking the lust. While the original still is a turn on.
The wisecracks don't work give or take a few. The first half is repetitive as if on a loop. The second, even the director doesn't know which direction to take.
Surprised at the good reviews it's getting from the media.
Total waste of money. You will be better off flushing it down the toilet.
Screw crew or get screwed.
Animal (2023)
alpha beta ...pita
Alpha beta
pyara pita
kabhi pita
kabhie pita
alpha son. Fatally in love with his father. Sometimes thrashed. Sometimes thrasher.
The alpha male needs no introduction. He was, is and perhaps will be, reinvented to suit boot the times. Sometimes as an avatar, mostly as an animal.
In the free fall jungle of a world. What will you do:
if your freedom is in danger?
If you crave for some kind of love from your father, while you are devastatingly in love with him?
If your sister is abused in the name of ragging?
If the same sister is then married to be a door mat?
If your father survives an assassination attack by an unknown enemy?
The correct answers are delivered by ranvijay balbir aka ranbir kapoor aka animal.
What happens in close encounters of the fatal kind is happening in the highly criticised, rarely praised film of the moment.
If protecting your freedom and family by blood or by extension in an anarchy environment. Loving them madly. Be misogynistic. So be it.
Yes in some frames women are abused. Given the situation, if you were in the protagonist/antagonist's shoes? Maybe you would do worse than make her lick yours, shoes i mean.
Animal is dark cinema at its best. Boldly carried on ranbir's animal act. Being compared to cult films like silence of the lambs, kill bill and other tarantino epics of blood, gore and violence. Even if it is to show the film down, is but hidden praise. Everyone is rodgering animal. And yet everyone is seeing it. The roar is evident and is being heard at the bank.
I liked the 200 minutes of animal. Could have been shorter but what the heck.
As a friend said, go see at your own risk.
Jaane Jaan (2023)
jaane jaan is no janeman
The premise and locale are haunting. The cinematography has captured kalimpong's gloomy side. The actors are brilliant.
Also worth mentioning are the film songs of the golden era, used in the background. We have grown up loving them. The title is also from a sensual helen song.
No, there's no glitch with the stars. Four-star expectations come down crumbling.
On the scale of kahani, sujoy ghosh slides flat. Every frame you feel, now the pace will pick up and pieces of the puzzle will start falling in place. Never happens. No twist no turn.
Japanese author keigo higashino's novel 'the devotion of suspect x' from which jj is adapted surely will be better.
Watch minus the expectations and for the acting.
Chup (2022)
we want more
R balki. You are a tiger. Bravo for the experiment and uniqueness of chup.
Loved the film. An intelligent one with brilliant performances by the entire cast.
The artist creates with love. According to the creator its magnificent work. The worst that can happen for a great creation is to get it ruined by critics at large. This is the premise of chup.
Dulquer salmaan shines and sunny deol recreates himself with aplomb.
The guru dutt angle is interesting and a déjà vu trip. Sadly it fails to connect in conclusion.
Once upon a time pyasa left us thirsty now r balki makes us shut up on being critical without proper research. Absolutely chup!
Thank You for Coming (2023)
bold, brave and the in between
Hats-off to the producers rhea and ekta kapoor to boldly go where hindi cinema has not gone before. The female orgasm.
As the film states 70 per cent of indian women go through life without experiencing the ultimate bliss she's born for. Still, dutifully she carries on giving birth to generations.
Onanism is considered taboo. Even in the 21st century there are absurd restrictions both social and religious that dehumanise masturbation for the male, quacks who call themselves doctors cash in on these ridiculous restrictions. It's blasphemy to think the superior half aka the female can indulge in self-pleasure.
Not anymore. Thank you for coming takes it up boldly. Looses steam in between but heats up in the climax. Karan baloni was given a script vicky donor worthy, unfortunately the result is not a masterpiece but a mediocre film.
It could have gone places but drags and drags. Bhumi is turning out to be a revelation. Playing kanika kapoor without a hitch. The remaining cast is also kind of okay. Anil kapoor is wasted.
The recent omg ii according to yours truly, the best film of 2023 had an apt ally in the making alas, thank you for coming, lost steam.
Charlie Chopra & The Mystery of Solang Valley (2023)
agatha christie
Announced somewhere into the pandemic, vishal bhardwaj's adaptation of an agatha christie whodunnit, the sittaford mystery is not a let down nor a terrific work.
Charlie chopra and the mystery of solang valley is good in parts and far fetched in others. The first episode is the best and most fast paced. The quirky series is definitely worth your time.
A first, the entire shah family dominates the cast.
Wamiqa gabbi as the protagonist charlie chopra is a delight. Carries the show on her new to acting shoulders. Her speaking to the audience bit is funny and witty.
Neena gupta, gulshan grover and lara dutta also play pivotal roles with finesse.
The classic teesri manzil, a vijay anand whodunnit is not so cleverly weaved into the plot. How on earth could one of the suspects get the murderer wrong?
Overall ccatmosv kept me guessing and intrigued till the end. And yes, i was almost correct.
Sam Bahadur (2023)
vicky lives breathes sambahadur
It is difficult to fit in five decades of laurels in 150minutes. No wonder sambahdur seems to be in a rush to the finish.
If not for vicky kaushal's finesse in acting the movie would have been average. He not only captures the nuances that sam manekshaw is known for but plays him to perfection.
The first half is fast paced and keeps you glued to your seat. Intermission comes in a jiffy. Meghna gulzar!s direction concentrates on sam, is for sam and only for sam. Rest of the characters have little to do.
The film belongs to vicky kaushal. It's sam and not him on the screen. He is a marvel in every frame, acting with eyes and expressions.
The only other character that shines is fatima sana shaik's take on indra gandhi. Frames that feature both vicky and her are the backbone of the film.
Zeeshan too is good, as is neeraj kabi as nehru but their screen time is minimal. Sanya malhotra has nothing much to do.
The war scenes are aptly conducted. The writing could have been better.
Sambahdur is a movie, the icon in some of the most important wars in india's history, deserves.
Go for it.
