The Spirit, fairly or not, has taken quite a beating at the hands of both critics and movie-goers alike. Yes, it's strange. Yes, it's over the top. Yes, it often feels disjointed, bombastic or just plain silly.

But that's what I love about it. You must take The Spirit for what it is, whether it was intentional or not: a bizarre comic parody of the superhero genre. Samuel L. Jackson certainly embraces this notion, and embraces every campy character quirk required of him to fashion one of the most memorable bad-guys in recent history. One thing is for certain: None of this film's detractors will ever forget the sight of Mr. Jackson in full Nazi regalia.

If you see this film, be prepared for a roller-coaster of absolute weirdness. If you're willing to go along for the ride, you'll definitely enjoy this movie.
